Pretty nice idea! I liked it. Probably it feels a little slow. But I have fun playing it.

In what way does your game fit the theme?
I'd say it's pretty chaotic
Did you write all the code yourself and made all the assets from scratch?
Yes except the music

I was never afraid of chickens in my life until play this game. My only complaint about this game is that is really hard to hit a specific square even when you have a big swarm. besides that 10/10
Hi, thank you so much for playing and for your kind words! The chickens are very OP, I think perhaps they need toning down a bit!
Yes that is definitely something that needs addressing in a future update, they seem to just not quite go where you wanted them to be!
Aside from that, did you have any suggestions?
That's a very helpful and to the point list! I am going through all the suggestions people have made and am making a list, this will speed things up a lot so thank you!
More sound effects is a great idea, I guess we could definitely use some more munching!
What sort of abilities did you have in mind?
Nice Art! I couldn't play it in my browser, but I could listen to the music! However, good job!
The art is adorable! and man those chickens eat bugs fast. Very chaotic game!
Loved the art, loved the idea, loved the execution. Screw the chickens. Only thing I wish had been done differently is I wish the bigger food sources gave more new insects. I ate the whole barn of food and only got one new guy out of it.
Hi Noah!
Thank you so much for playing and your kind words! I agree the chickens are very powerful and can be a little frustrating to deal with.
I agree entirely that the mechanic for gaining more insects is balanced wrongly, and bigger food sources should definitely give more insects!
You are correct, currently each source gives 1 new insect which doesn’t make sense for larger ones like the barn. This will definitely be addressed in a future update, along with toning down those chickens!
Other than that, did you have any suggestions?
Perfect little game. Good interpretation of the theme, nice pixel art and nice fun and unique gameplay. I love it.
Fantastic game! This is the first time I've seen locusts play so adorable. And after the game about the goose, I didn't think that someone else would think of making enemies out of ordinary pets. Simple but great execution!
We will be grateful if you appreciate our work ^ _ ^
Ah ok! I’ll have a look, though it sounds familiar!
I will definitely be adding an insect abundance meter, and having abilities once you reach a certain size would be interesting too!
What kind of abilities did you have in mind?
I also agree that there needs to be better food targeting, it can be a little frustrating at the present moment...
Wow, I really like your idea and what you've done with it!
In the first play, I didn't realise how much the chicken has eaten around the tree cause I thought the black lines were locust, apparently, they were just the empty tree. Probably will be better if there is another indication of how big my colony is.
Overall, still a cool game. Good job!
Hi, thank you for playing and for your kind words.
Very interesting to hear that the tree branches looked too much like locusts and caused confusion, that is something to take into account (e.g. introducing trees later on so mechanics are understood first) so thanks for bringing that to my attention!
I agree that there must be a colony size indicator, that’s going on the todo list as well!
Thank you for this feedback, it is very helpful. Is there anything else?
Really unique game! Very cool idea, beautiful art, and very chaotic! Nice work!
Hmmm, good question, I really liked it as is :) But maybe it could be cool to have a counter or something to show how big your swarm has gotten? That way, you have direct feedback on how much damage you can do. I really like just visually seeing the size of the swarm as it is now, but a lot of them are hidden in the environment while they are eating and whatnot so it can be difficult to see the full group at once. :)
That’s a really good point, it’s very true that they get hidden in the environment and it makes them hard to see. That in itself is something I’d like to fix but in addition, I will definitely be adding a swarm counter, that would be very useful!
Did you have any other suggestions? This is really helpful to me! Thank you
Glad I could help! :) I played it again and I came up with two other possible suggestions :)
1) Maybe the player could choose where to start out from? The level is a smallish size right now so it isn't super important just yet, but if you choose to make bigger levels in the future, you could let the player choose where to start so they can plan their approach (almost like in the Hitman games haha)
2) I think maybe consider making the trees more valuable. At the moment, they take a decent amount of time to eat but only give you one locust. Meanwhile, the wheat seems pretty quick and you can get tons of locusts out of it. If trees were a bit stronger, they could be a valuable place to start to build a swarm and then you could take that swarm over to the wheat to really start building quickly
That's all I got! Hopefully that is helpful :) The game is really neat and I'm looking forward to seeing where you take it! :)
Thank you so much wow! Ok I’ll address each point.
1) What an interesting idea! It reminds me of clash of clans a little bit, deploying your troops. I really like this, I’ll see what can be done.
2) I agree completely that the food harvesting mechanic is wrong, and larger food sources should definitely give more food (such as trees and barns). The original intention was to make trees harder to harvest until endgame (as they’re high up and you couldn’t get to them) plus the leaves are tough vs soft crunchy crops at ground level. But I can see this is not the best approach and something should be fixed here!
This feedback is so useful to me, would you be interested in testing future versions / projects?
Interesting game. I like the graphics a lot. I also like the music, but it's a bit too epic for my taste, and does not fit the game so well. The gameplay is fun, and although it's a bit slow at first, it gets faster and also more chaotic and difficult to avoid the chickens as time goes on.
Overall, an entertaining game that I could definitely see myself playing on a mobile platform or similar!
Hi, thank you so much for playing and taking the time to leave some feedback. I completely agree that the music is too epic, but I actually struggled to find anything that fit at all. What kind of music would you suggest instead?
Sadly the reason gameplay is so slow is because I nerfed it last minute to make it a little bit harder but I think it ruined the fun a little! I will definitely address this in the next update
That's a good question :D I think something with a more happy atmosphere would be more fitting, since the whole game has a fun setting, I'd say. I don't know, I was thinking something nintendo-like or arcade-like. But it's really hard to tell without playing the game and hearing something.
Hope it helps anyway :)
It would really mean a lot to me if you tried my game too!
i like how you balanced the game and even we cant kill the chicken or the farmer that's a nice way to avoid the player from safe zone...good game
Some indication of how big is the swarm would be appreciated, could be a simple count of how many locusts there is. It would help a lot, because it's somehow difficult to tell how many there are when they are covered by bushes and trees, it would also help to have a clear idea of how much damage a chicken did eating locusts.
I don't know if a competing swarm would be interesting, it might be pretty fun, but I'm not sure either. Testing this could be a great experience, and if you consider it being multiplayer it could expose you to a lot of interesting development knowledge, network development is very challenging but pretty fun.
A swarm size indicator is a great idea, I'd definitely look into a visual metric but if I can't get that to work then it would just be a simple count! I'll be sure to include that, thank you for the suggestion! Also an indicator of how many locusts had been lost as you go would be great too!
I agree, multiplayer is a whole other can of worms. I simply meant an AI swarm!
By the way, would you be interested in testing future versions/ projects?
what a cool little game, only asked for little bit bigger window, but I get it the plague is small in pixel size, but its really nice so see them traveling and ducks comming for them, really cool, nice entry man, one of the best
Such a satisfying little game and such wonderful pixel art. Great job, look forward to seeing more.
Well, I think you're already aware of the pacing and lack of threat (based on other commenters). I think the core of your game is solid, but it feels like the game is lacking an overall goal. I would recommend finding other ways to compliment what you have and to streamline the player's objective. Perhaps make the goal about reaching a destination (like they're migrating) or you have to destroy (I'm using this loosely) something. Find a way to add some slight randomness and some more obstacles (like wind, fire, even humans). I would definitely try to keep each element as simple as possible - logical way that each challenge/obstacle behaves.
Also, if/when you make the chicken more challenging, you should make them fall asleep after eating a certain number of locusts - that way it's not too punishing.
That’s interesting you say that you feel the game is lacking an overall goal, I agree it seems a little open ended but I was thinking the goal was survival!
But adding specific things to destroy is a great idea, perhaps as you said, there can be tasks that compliment the overall survival aspect. I like the idea of destroying something or somethings. Perhaps eating all the bushes around 5 monuments or eating all the crops specifically from a farm.
Wind and fire are fantastic ideas! Perhaps even to the extent of you being able to be the cause of them by setting your swarm on fire to spread it to different fields.
I like the idea of chickens falling asleep too. They definitely would have a food coma after eating that many insects!
This feedback has been so helpful, is there anything else?
