Great art and audio, fluid movement. Good job!

Developer

Thank you!

Loved the audio and the idea but I feel the gameplay could be better. Once we figure out we have to take the door for which clues are not in the scene, it  becomes boring. But the concept is great and one on which you can build on.

Check out our game as well and do share your valuable feedback. Thanks!

Developer

Hey!

Thanks for your feedback! It's hard to have an exciting gameplay when doing a kind-of puzzle game, but I'll think about this.

Submitted(+1)

Interesting concept. I feel like there should be some points where the game is actually telling you the truth with the clues, and some indication of when that is. It would make the puzzles more difficult than doing whatever is opposite of what is being shown. Good job!

Developer

Thanks! This sounds like a good idea to me, I'll consider it when expanding the game after the jam :)

Cool concept. Nice work mate

Thanks a lot :)

Please consider trying ours out. We are really interested in your feedback

Good job! I like it, I found one path for now, and I want to do it again to discorver all the rooms...and it's a good thing! ;)

I guess my game might be on your taste. Try to check it out if you want! :)

Developer

Thanks dude, I'm happy you enjoyed your time spent on the game :)

I liked the click to move and exploring loop!  Good job~  Your sprite art is nice too and the lighting is really well done! Maybe you can juice it up with some particle effects, also sound was just a bit loud~ Keep iup the good work.  Please check out my game if you have time (you can rate based on gameplay video or DL)

Developer

Thanks!

You think the sound effects was too loud compared to the music?

Submitted(+1)

I like the concept, but I wasn't smart enough to figure it out lol!

Nice art and music

I wish the text was display faster, right now it's very slow. And you can't skip them

I found it frustrating feature to be send back to the menu when you open a wrong door, maybe there could be a smarter alternative to fit the theme's jam.

Frustration aside, it could make a pretty cool game after some fixes

Developer

Hey, thanks for your comment! You're right I already received feedbacks and noted the fact that the text is too slow and should be possible to skip.

I wanted to add some checkpoints but as the game isn't that big it would have reduced a lot its duration, I'll probably do it on a larger version.

Playing this game was a great and fun experience. The music was great and fits. Art is awesome. I like it.

It was simple but it has a few puzzle here and there. And because of the theme you should not forget that everything is a lie. Like when you know what x = -2.5f is and think nice I know which door the game means. But still you should remember the theme. You could probably add more and also trickier puzzles if you decide to expand on the project.

When you finish a game once the world should change a bit, like adding more objects (at least just to interact with them) or adding something else that would change the next playthrough, so that you want to play again and see more.

And maybe the "game over"-doors should have some different outcomes in form of text or image. Like here it is game over because this happened, and so on.

Overall a great game. If you decide to work on it and make it a bigger project, I would like to play it :)

Hey! Obviously this was a matter of time: level design was long, finding the right idea, designing the background and all of the elements, the music... Yeah I would like to give it more content but in 7 days it was a bit short. Your ideas are great, I'm noting them for a possible later expansion!

Thanks for you feedback!

Here's my feedback on the game:

  • Nice art and music. However, there is no alternative response for when you press the E key when the tutorial says press the T key; kind of a missed opportunity.
  • It is really annoying that you get sent back to the main menu every time you go through the wrong door.
  • Why not show the overview of the rooms in the pausemenu, that way I know were I am. Also, allow the player to go to a room they have already unlocked, using the roomsmenu. That would save a lot of annoying  repetition.
  • There's no way to skip the credits, but that's a minor issue.
Developer

Hey Mika, I really appreciated your honest feedback!

> Nice art and music. However, there is no alternative response for when you press the E key when the tutorial says press the T key; kind of a missed opportunity.

This is true, I didn't think about this at all but I already got some feedbacks saying this!

It is really annoying that you get sent back to the main menu every time you go through the wrong door.

That's part of the experience, just don't miss haha. Joke apart, thing is that I would like to have some checkpoints but there are not enough rooms to make it interesting so, yes...

Why not show the overview of the rooms in the pausemenu, that way I know were I am. Also, allow the player to go to a room they have already unlocked, using the roomsmenu. That would save a lot of annoying  repetition.

Rooms' functionality wasn't an original idea, but a feature that I've added at the end of the development, so I ended with what you see atm - but your point is valid, it could be very interesting.

>  There's no way to skip the credits, but that's a minor issue.

True, that's annoying. Same goes for the texts when interacting with items. A quality-of-life dev is required here if I plan to continue the project.

Thanks a lot for playing :)

The game is fun and I did play it all the way through. It was a nice adventure and I like the multiple paths and exits. I like that your progress is saved and I was surprised to find it working on WebGL. I do think that the beginning message could've been faster and I was worried I'd have to sit through that eveyrtime but thanks to saving I did not have to! I like the menu system with the and its polish. I really like the credits screen too especially thanking the organisers that was wholesome

At first I was a bit annoyed at the lack of a checkpoint system but it did grow on me to repeat the rooms as my anticipation to try the other rooms built up. If that was on purpose then I am glad it worked out well. The 2D lighting is pretty nice and I like the sprite work. The music in the first few levels was pretty annoying and it did make me wish I could've muted it but the second and third music tracks used (the orange rooms) wasn't bad actually.

I thought the Heaven and Hell stuff was funny. I did like the twist in Heaven where the protagonist thought he failed. That was nice

My feedback would be more options and to proofread the dialogue (lots of spelling and grammar mistakes) but for the jam this is fine as it is. It was a fun playthrough and it did make me wanna experiment with 2D lighting and that's great. The fact I did all the endings shows the game did something right.

Developer

Thanks for the complete review you made. I'll go though all of your points.

> I do think that the beginning message could've been faster and I was worried I'd have to sit through that eveyrtime but thanks to saving I did not have to!

Generally speaking, the text elements and animation I made could be better, quicker and have skipping options. I've noted this point for the later devs I'll make.

At first I was a bit annoyed at the lack of a checkpoint system but it did grow on me to repeat the rooms as my anticipation to try the other rooms built up. If that was on purpose then I am glad it worked out well.

For the jam, I didn't want to make a checkpoint as it would have shorten the game too much. If content would be longer, then I'll probably add some checkpoint rooms where you can just return using the "Rooms" menu.

The music in the first few levels was pretty annoying and it did make me wish I could've muted it but the second and third music tracks used (the orange rooms) wasn't bad actually.

Music is one of the things I love about my own game, but this is very personal :)

My feedback would be more options and to proofread the dialogue (lots of spelling and grammar mistakes)

You're totally right. English isn't my mother tongue, to I had some troubles making the dialogs and texts in a short amount of time, tried my best to make it clear enough, at least I hope lol.

Thanks a lot for your detailed feedback, happy you tried my game!

Very cool game, with some good riddles! And the art just looks so pro and polished, well done!

Developer

Thanks! I'm glad you liked playing it :)

Just rated it: it's quite nice! I did all three endings and enjoyed it all, even though maybe the story ends too quickly? Just one thing to say is that the second room's hint is unclear because to me it seemed like the painting was hinting towards the one dash door, but since the game lies, I thought the 2 dash door was the correct one. It's fine though because you can just try again. Good job on this!
I think you already have but could you also have a look at my game? https://itch.io/jam/cgj/rate/475851

Developer

It's a bit quick I agree, thing is that it was pretty time consuming to design those rooms and I wanted to make something polished enough before the end of the timer.

For this particular clue, I can see people saying it's pretty confusing, I can agree too. I mean, the "?" should be removed it deserves the room.

Thanks for your feedback!

Yeah I can see the effort you put into polish and that's definitely something to praise!

Great little game, really fun and well executed. I played through all three endings, the lies were frustrating but not off putting. I would suggest allowing the player to cancel dialogue boxes, I accidentally hit E on some a second time!

I'd love it if you had a look at our game too :) https://beardedants.itch.io/shafted

I agree for the dialogs, I had a lot of feedbacks about this actually haha. Thanks a lot for your review!

I love the aesthetics of the game. It's very polished and pleasant to play. The light effects are very well realized. The concept is good. Good job =D

Thanks a lot! Much appreciated :)

I love the pixel art on your game.

Here's hoping you'll check out mine as well:

I'm almost sure you'll like the art design. Hopefully, vote for it as well.

We'll update the game with lot more stuff when the button's available.

Thank you! I'll try my best to review the other games of the jam ;)

Alrighty, thank you

I don't see many games with really good pixel art in this jam, but this is one of them. Pixel art is a timeless classic art form.

Thank you! Was a bit hard to make it looking as good as I expected with this time restriction but I'm pretty happy about the result:)
