Didn't got time to play & rate it during the voting period and I do apologize for that, but I really wanted to try it out so here I am. :-)
I do love tetris so I had to play it. And I loved it! Lots of clicks here and there, but that was okay to me. I didn't clearly understand first that I had to click that right button to set a block, but that's probably because my eyes were busy figuring out the best way to stack blocks on the other parts of the screen, haha.
Really cool, and good job! <3
Lovely little game. Ran into a small issue into the tutorial where it froze and the button has sort of duplicated itself so ti looked like there were two buttons stacked on top of each other with the one on top slightly to the right which made me need to restart, and then sometimes clicking on the button to send a truck out would send me back to the main area. of block picking.
It got a little hard at a certain point when the blocks were all on the edge bc i had to use time to send trucks out for space and as i was waiting on that, i lost a few points because i couldn't move the pieces so they just sort of cascaded into me losing, so potentially the game could see if the whole conveyor belt is full and potentially move it back or destroy other pieces or something, It just got to the point where i hadn't lost a single point then suddenly all of them were gone. Though I know some games are like that where it's endless until it piles up.
I think there was also a bug when one of the trucks left for good, it wiped one of the other trucks as well, which was good since i was down to one truck, but i did miss out on those points.
But this is a great game which I keep playing and even my roommates have checked out to play.
Very fun and challenging! Love the gameplay!
The tutorial was a good call and well done. I tried giving it a run without the tutorial and got a bit confused about how to place down blocks, until I realized there was a dedicated button for it. Potentially allowing the user to place a block through double clicking as well as the button might make it a bit more intuitive and potentially a faster way to play. Outside of that I thought the game was fairly fun puzzle game. I can see this making for a pretty good mobile game. Great Job!
Overall an addictive and fun game
The tutorial was helpful and after playing through it I was able to get a pretty long run. I wasn't watching my score and the game doesn't keep it in some sort of database which I think should be added. Placing blocks was crunchy and satisfying which I really enjoyed. The art was a bit rushed and inconsistent looking but overall a really great game!!
While I really like this concept, the design could use some polish. The buttons felt unintuitive to use. The art could also use some work. But stacking shapes is always fun! and I packed a few perfect trucks which felt accomplished
The game has a fun idea, I sent out some trucks with the blocks perfectly fitted to all of them lol Even though it's fun at first, it gets boring pretty quickly, unfortunately (T_T)
Anyway, there are some points that bothered me a little:
The first was that I finished the game with a bit of a headache, because the fact that you're going back and forth on the truck and block screens makes you very dizzy. Even more so because the background keeps going up and down every time you open and close the menus.
I also don't think it's very good the idea that to be able to place the blocks in the truck, you need to confirm with a button down there in the corner of the screen, you end up wasting a lot of time in this process. A double click directly on the truck would solve this.
The music is cool, although I don't think it goes very well with the dinosaur aesthetic.
And the art could be a little better, it looks like it was done a little rushed in Paint
But overall I had fun playing it :) It's a good entry
I’m inclined to agree with you, rather than transition between screens, and having the extra mouse drag (moving from your current place to the green button) to set blocks I believe the winning formula for this game is simply select a block, and place it in one of three grids, before sending it off. No background transitions, no extra button press. I’ve watched a lot of people play and it feels clunky as is. I spent about 6 of the 10 days just simplifying the process. I do think this could be a fun mobile game though, so I’ll continue making it after the jam. I’ll likely lose the theme entirely, or lean very heavily into it haha. Thanks so much for your feedback. If you want to be challenged, in the beginning it’s 1 new piece per 5 seconds. each time you send a truck that goes down by .1 seconds, so if you just send like 10 empties, it’ll pick up, but the headache factor would go up.
It's good that you got a tutorial and it's all very well thought out and enjoyable with no bugs. When I played I did find myself only using one truck and I was just trying to send out perfect trucks only which in hindsight is probably not the best strategy. I really like that you have got to fit the Tetris blocks into the trucks and having the ability to rotate them is awesome too. I feel like the process of putting the blocks in could be better. For instance, I would have preferred to drag and drop the blocks in place as it's quicker and more fluid and then there could also be a button on the keyboard to press to rotate.
Well thank you for your feedback! it is definitely not bug free, but they’re hidden decently lol. And yes, getting the perfect trucks is much easier in the beginning, like in Tetris, it should be easier to plan out, however as others mentioned there’s a few time consuming/non-intuitive elements. If I have enough positive feedback I’ll spend time converting this into a proper mobile game.
Really cool game ! Stressfull in a good way.
The gameplay is simple to understand & to get into. And the tutorial is really well made.
The music & sound a really on point.
In term of feedbacks, There's a lot of unecessary clicks and back & forth movements (really straining with a trackpad ^^). I kinda feel like the "place down" action could be replace by a double click or a right click instead of a button in the corner of the screen and the rotate button by a scroll. I also don't really understand the need to click on a truck before placing your piece . The grid seems already big enough to aim properly & the send truck button could be displayed on top of each truck. The whole interface seems a lot more appropriate for a touch screen than for a mouse input. If that was indeed your intention & this is more of a mobile game it could ba a good idea to recommend playing on phone on your page. :)
The game over is a bit sudden and send you back to the menu pretty fast. Giving a few seconds to the player to realize he lost and be able to see his score would be a good idea. Also Displaying a high score somewhere can be a good incentive to keep playing & beat your own score.
Tiny feedback on the tutorial also. the button on the middle of the screen could be replace by a click anywhere on the screen (but that's really nitpicking at this point)
All in all. It's a pretty fun game & really polished for a jam game. With a little rework of the UI & controls to reduce the number of clicks, you have a really cool game here. Great work ! :)
Thanks so much for that feedback! I actually spent most of the jam time reducing clicks! I’m glad you pointed it out too, because for players to feel good, maybe things can be simplified even further. Thank you for the compliment on the tutorial! I set out to be more than just a “read this and then play” sort of instructions. Those can be pretty boring sometimes. I am most grateful for the feedback on the music, always my strongest category for sure.
It was designed with being played on phone and tablet, however, it’s too late to upload more versions of the game. Maybe after the jam I’ll add mobile versions.
Also thank you for your comments on the end of game being too sudden. I would spend time making sure the player knows “I can’t miss any more or I lose” and then, making the end results screen for sure.
Finally, I would remove the dino walking around altogether. I initially intended to have the 3 spaces between the trucks be ‘hold’ places where you could set the pieces down for later use, but I decided against it, as such, removing walking around, and simply making the dino be where it needs to be for what’s happening will reduce clicks and reduce jarring transitions from happening all of the time.
Thanks for playing and leaving feedback.
