Create idea! The core gameplay loop of sucking in enemies and shooting them as ammo is fun to get through. I'd be interested in seeing the idea expanded with more enemy types!
I liked the idea. I think the sucking definitely needed more juicy feedback (sentence i never thought id say) and the shooting/sucking feels imbalanced. It seems most of the time I am better off just emptying my gun of ammo so I can one shot the enemy with a suck, rather than use multiple shots to do the same thing. Overall the music and visuals were great, and it felt super fun and intuitive to play. The amount you guys managed to get done in the time is impressive!
Hahaha that sentence.
Thanks for the feedback! I do agree we should have balanced more the sucking and shoting (there you go, another sentence).
While it did bug out to me on my first run, gotta say, the art was amazing and loved how it felt when you took out an enemy with the bullets (tho wished that juicy feeling was also when you sucked them in), great job!
Thanks for the experience, it gave me nostalgic vibes to being in a arcade room! I like the idea of inhaling the enemies and shooting them back out, but shooting felt more like a hinderance compared to inhaling as that instant kills enemies. I do like the different variety of bullets, but I felt more inclined to use the inhaling more. I really like how you had a bunch of levels and even a boss fight at the end, it felt complete. Overall awesome entry!
Poor pixel art, too narrow doors, no pickable items (just heart - life - fallen from enemy), short reach of inhaling, too swift enemies, to slow "bullets". But it is an intetersting idea and it twisty fits the theme. Fun 1 / 5, Art + Graphic 2 / 5 (and I am totally tolerant), Audio 3 (and I am totally tolerant), Originality 4 / 5 (it is just a kind of shooter, athough original one), Theme 5 / 5. I am open to raise the rating of Fun, if somebody would tell me that it is not such monotonous in more far rooms. For me it was too challenging while boring after a while.
My feedback for Inverter Gun:
What the game does well:
Great incorporation of the theme. Enemies get sucked in whole and pushed out as ammo. Straight to the point.
The art stays true to the rules of your tilemap. That is, every object is a 1x1 tile.
Shooting feels good, and is rapid without any noticeable delay
What the game doesn't do well:
The main mechanic that ties the gameplay to the theme, the inverter action, needs polish. Because of how fast the character moves I found myself trying to get closer to suck in an enemy and getting hit instead.
The range doesn't seem that far and only covers whats directly in front of me and nothing in the diagonal area.
Each enemy has a different behavior when they're whole, but when you suck them in, their ammo all do roughly the same thing with nothing separating them apart (aside from the green crawler enemy that shoots 3).
Areas of Opportunity:
The levels are long mazes, and each room feels like the last. But with that much ground to cover you can turn each one into a dungeon. Perhaps there is an item in one room that the player needs for another?
The enemies don't need revising so much as their ammo form. I think you can get creative with things like the ammo's speed, angle, power, etc.
I hope this feedback helps!
Hi Daniel, thanks a lot for the feedback, it definitely helps!
Let's see how the game does and maybe we can launch a v2.0.
Again, thanks!!!
No problem. Keep me updated on your progress! DM me on discord @salsero anytime
Great polished game! There is a lot to explore and I like there is different path to take. The voice acting is a nice touch, it's rare a team have the time and resource to do one!
