Made for Friendly Music Jam 3 - Break The Rules
itch.io/jam/friendly-music-jam-3
For the Friendly Music Jam 3, I tried to capture the feel of the theme image, which evoked a 'Boards of Canada' style to work with. This inspired a warm, subdued chord progression that evolves throughout the piece.
To avoid the limitations of a purely ambient track within the "break the rules" theme, I approached several differing elements. The percussion is inspired by Autechre's Amber. Drums are on a quarter swing, and evolve throughout the track.
Harmonic shifts and key changes occur throughout the song. While certain sections repeat, the accompanying instrumentation evolves.

Nice textures and mood, very meditative !
Well done !
Super great lo-fi feel to this track, it sounds amazing! Great work
Love this!!
Great synths and percussion, love all of the melody parts and pad washes.
Can definitely hear the Boards of Canada and Autechre influence, in a good way.
The shifts in key and harmony work very nicely too.
There were quite a few instances in this piece that almost completely subverted my expectations.
At first I wasn't entirely sure how this percussion was going to mesh with the rest of the mix, but it was actually one of the biggest components that I enjoyed. I also liked how it didn't just build and build, but some parts were taken away and reintroduced at certain sections. I think I personally might've delayed the entrance of those elements just a little bit longer at the beginning so that it comes in with some of the other instruments you used, but that's nit-picky.
I was also pleasantly surprised by some of the harmony you used - it was different and gave the piece a brief change in tone, but it was also very tasteful and kept me intrigued throughout its entirety.
Thanks for sharing such a solid piece of music - keep up the good work :)
Probably my favorite song of the jam so far. Got me real good vibes man, great track.
Thank you for that, I really enjoyed your submission as well, it easily works for many types of scenes, but worked especially well for this theme.
You nailed the Boards of Canada vibes right from the start. When the vocal sample came in the magic was complete. The evolution of the beat is really interesting. At some point it's almost an hip hop beat. I also like that subtle kick-like percussive sound, which you hear only if you really pay attention but adds a lot to the grove. Really cool
Thank you so much, I really liked your track as well!
reminds me a bit of the samurai champloo soundtrack, which is so nice! such a relaxing vibe. great work!
