Theme interpretation
I wanted to play with the idea that there are grand moonshots (like the one our protagonist is on at the start) and tiny moonshots (like bringing a broken village back together again) and how they're both meaningful in their own way.
Comments
Gameplay: There were a lot of puzzles and other game things. Good Job!
Graphics: Nice art. There were so many rooms and they all felt really good.
Audio: The music was really good and it was cool how many variations there were.
Innovation: Pretty good!
Theme: There are grand moonshots (like the one our protagonist is on at the start) and tiny moonshots (like bringing a broken village back together again) and how they're both meaningful in their own way.
Overall: Really Good!!!
Can you try (and review) my game?
Awesome puzzle game! At first I was like "this has so much backtracking" but then "is this deliberate? OMG". The puzzle design of the last challenges is amazing. Graphics are top notch for its resolution, and music fits very well, with many variations... Everything inside a PICO-8 cartridge. I'm going to buy a hat to take off for you. Congratulations!
I always like to try some pico-8 game :-)
Nice work with both the graphics and music!
I love how much expression you managed to get out of the pico-8 engine, super cute. The walking animation made me chuckle =) Fun with such a big variation in different game elemnts, very impressive!
Despite the background (grass) sometimes can be hurting my eyes, I love the colourful grids and sprites you have! The music is also very interesting to listen to, there is a little bit of Zelda village feel to it. I do feel the walking speed is a little too slow and there are too many unnecessary mazes, thus makes it a bit frustrating to navigate. Other than that, loved the whole presentation, especially the start screen and intro!
I always love to see a PICO-8 game, and this was no exception. The whole intro was very well done, from title screen transition to the move through the clouds to the final crash. It was all so cool. I didn't play the entire game, but I finished the color switch puzzle and that was very satisfying the complete. Awesome stuff!
The color-changing puzzle was wickedly hard, and super satisfying to beat.
It took a long time to figure out how to move the "log". I tried picking up several likely-looking things, and it turned out to be the first thing I tried, but I couldn't make it work at first. I have found that this game is generally very picky about being off by a few pixels. If I wasn't completely outside of a square, facing the next one, the action button wouldn't do anything. So that made the controls a bit tricky.
The spade/hoe timing was simply too difficult for me, but it was fun to try. I was able to solve the other three, and they were all really fun! I'm really impressed with the puzzle design.
The audio was excellent. Overall, I liked this game very much! Well done!
Hey I recognize your style from that game you made for the weekly game jam about the dog. You nail the minimal pixel art. I got stuck early on, are the brothers who are guarding the spade supposed to be able to see through the fences? I'll come back and try again.
Thanks :)
I’m learning, from the comments, that it is all a bit harder than I meant it to be :)
Yeah- the brothers can see over the fences that are “hollow”- the ones that are just straight lines.
(and yeah- i couldn’t help but re-use that doggo sprite from my old game, he started as just a placeholder; but grew on me :D )
Very nice game! Excellent visuals (and I love the visual pallette of PICO-8), nice music (but a bit repetitive, I think a more ambient music would have been better for this type of game).
I really like the gameplay especially the color tiles puzzle and the coins in the bush (so zelda inspired that one ;-) ). And a nice story!
Great job!
I think the coins count, that the player has on him, should be shown on screen since the only other way is to ask the boat person that require them every time you want to check if you have enough.
Really awesome presentation. The visuals are incredible and the music sets the tone really well. The gameplay concepts were interesting but a little difficult right off the bat. Great overall!
