Cute little platformer with some light puzzle-y aspects. I had a lot of fun with it!
That you for playing!
Fun game with good comedic elements, I had a good time :) I noticed some of the other comments said the graphics weren't good, I actually didn't mind at all. I like the art and I think it fits the tone of the game pretty well. :)
The levels got too hard for me after a while and I didn't get to make it all the way to the end. One of the problems I had was not being able to see the moon side from the Earth or vice versa. I'm terrible with memory when it comes to platformers so maybe something to help with that would have been nice.
The sound effects and music were a good fit for the game too. Just those two things alone conveyed the comedic side of the game really well. Good work!
Thanks for playing and especially for the kind words! I was actually worried, at first, about making the game too quick, even though it's a game jam game, but I forgot to consider that we're all trying to review a lot of games too so hasn't been a problem LOL.
They do get a little tricky, and memory is definitely a factor (purposely), however, when you jump between the moon & earth, there's a green arrow that indicates the spot where you entered from (at the "top" of the screen).
We figured this to help orient, particularly if scrolling were later introduced, but I actually noticed around the end that I forgot about it as I was play testing. Not sure if that was because I knew the levels or because it was too subtle, but it did occur to me, after the fact, that maybe that would be better to make more noticeable.
Glad you enjoyed it, particularly the comedic aspect of using that music!
Thank you so much for the feedback and positive comments!
I actually toyed with the idea of having a silhouette of the Moon/Earth depicted somewhere to give you a basic idea of where you were. That was too hard to complete in the time allotted so we opted to go with an arrow showing you where you came from. I agree the memorization can be tricky and I'll keep that in mind as we further expand on the idea. Thank you again!
EDIT: I'm glad you liked the art! It wasn't surprising at all to us that that's where we're receiving the most criticism, though. It's definitely an area we were both lacking in but we tried our best and didn't resort to outsourcing, so we're proud of what we came up with and we're not upset that it comes off amateurish (because it is!). We hope to slowly get better at it as we get more experience.
This game's dumb, but in a fun and funny way. It made me laugh a lot. Got a bit frustrated when the meteorites started appearing, so I didn't manage to finish it. Level graphics could use some work, but they fit with the comedic tone of the game. Main mechanic isn't the most original idea, but the execution was great, haha. I'd probably focus on the level design if you were to continue working on this.
We are highly pleased, the dumb in a funny way was absolutely deliberate =D. With more time, we'd love to expand. I especially wanted to at least get some scrolling into the levels, but it was too much scope for us as noobs in the game making/jamming field. I also would have liked to enhance the clarity of the (we hoped) self-teaching mechanics given more time. Thanks for playing, and glad you got enjoyment out of it!
The levels worked without scrolling alright (it made it easier to remember what was on the other part of the screen).
I had a good laugh. I think we need more comedy / funny games.
The level design and "dumb in a fun way" areas were definitely our focus so we appreciate you saying that! Thank you for playing! I promise we'll work on the art.
This was a really fun game!! The levels were all well designed and there was a good progression in difficulty. My only wish is that the level art had the same attention to detail as the player. Overall great job :-)
Much appreciated! Definitely setting a higher art bar in the future. As it was, we had to sacrifice to make it "work" haha :) Glad you enjoyed it!
You are absolutely right that I spent a lot more time on the player than I did the environment! :-p
Thank you so much for the kind words!
great puzzle platformer
great gameplay
work a bit on the graphics
dope game!!!!
Thanks for playing it! We're both keenly aware of our being not artists lol, probably team up with one or spend a few months practicing, but glad you enjoyed it.
I agree on the poop art and very appreciate you playing our game and enjoying it! Once I'm able to draw a straight line consistently, I will redraw everything!
The gameplay was fun, because idea of this game is great and creative, but it looks like there is less time spent with the graphics, so working on a design would be great for this game. Loved the soundeffects.
Right on target. If we decide to continue this, we would definitely improve the art and make the levels scrolling as well. Thank you for checking it out!
You nailed it. Unfortunately, our lack of any art talent whatsoever forced us to focus more on design. We're working on it, I promise! Thank you so much!
Really great game! My impressions below:
59:34 Moonjump
Thanks for taking the time and for the high praise, much appreciated!
Ha! Thank you so much for doing this. I agree the spike collisions are too big. It was a thing we battled with during the entirety of development (they were actually much worse previously!). The level you gave up on, unfortunately, you made a jump you were not supposed to be able to make, which sent you down a path thinking that's what you had to do, which will haunt my nightmares as a designer for all eternity. But thank you for the kind words and the play!
hahaha no worries! Was good and fun and after all we are doing a jam, my game is also far from perfect... far from!
It was truly innovative game
1) I was confused a bit in the beginning how to solve, Then when i click Moon Jump came to know the picture.
2) Sounds are good, Moon Jump sounds is especially funny. I clicked its may times just to hear it.
3) Liked the puzzle elements when we have to jump and press Moon Jump
Cons:
1) Could have added other environment assets to make itself better
Thanks for the feedback! We're both working on learning those art skills and hopefully be able to expand just so :)
Pretty challenging game! I liked the theme interpretation the moon jump was definitely a cool idea!
Pros:
Cool mechanic in the moon jump
Challenging Level design, I was looking for bugs and glitches to cheat some levels but it looks like you did a good job making.
Improvements:
Can definitely improve some of the graphics and animations! I really like the normal ground sprites you used but some sprites like legos, scissors, and slime don't really hit. Also the meteors appearing out of thin air looks strange haha. Not too difficult to clean up for a future release though!
Thank you so much!
Haha very nice, fun game, funny sound design. The moon jump is an interesting mechanic I have never seen before.
Thank you! The game jam/time crunch did its job well in inspiring that mechanic =D.
Thank you! It means a lot.
Challenging and fun
Thank you for playing!
Really cool and challenging!! Loved the level design and gameplay. Very addicting! <3
Thank you so much! <3 back to you!
Best puzzle game so far, nice job :-)
it's missing a bit of polishing and animation, but the base gameplay is solid and worth playing.
Polish is definitely something it needs. If we get around to expanding on this project, it'll be at the top of the list of things to do. Thank you for playing and for the kind words!
The relatively simple mechanics was easy to understand and the puzzles explored the idea very well. Also I hate the slime but from a design perspective, I think it was a nice way to take away the jump.
Also found his facial expression pretty hilarious when he's about to suffocate
Thank you for playing and for the kind words. It means a lot!
Repeat from my thread:
Got VVVVV vibes. I like that I understood the mechanics completely by around level 2 but I still had moments of being surprised when I realized "oh I need to go back for air first".
Very clever mechanics. Good call on clarifying that I can moon jump in air since it was pretty important later on.
Great game dude and I like that you introduced mechanics in slowly. You very much have a the skills for level design and it shows.
VVVVVV [checks number of Vs... looks good] was a big inspiration, definitely. That's high praise.
Everything you said means so much to me. Thank you for taking the time to play and comment!
EDIT: Kudos for wearing a mask.
This is one of the more fun platformers I've played. I always enjoy a good puzzle too. I'm surprised you were able to make so many good ones in such short time. Great job!
It was definitely an undertaking and my family now hates me for neglecting them, but it was worth it for comments like this. Thank you so much!
Took me a bit to realize I could bring up a map of the controls, but once I did that, the game felt much less rough. I liked the puzzle elements, and how you have to manage the oxygen when you're up on the moon. A cool touch 8]
Thank you for playing! Very much appreciated.
Gameplay: This is the probably the best part of this game. The elements that are added are nice but some explanation would help. The jumping/moon jumping controls were a little hard to get used to.
Graphics: The visuals were ok.
Audio: There were times where the stopped and it was inconsistent.
Innovation: The gravity thing gets used in a decent amount of gamesbut I think this is different because it was more platformer/puzzle
Theme: Interesting take on the theme I didnt think about.
Overall: I had a good time playing after I got used to the controls, good job!
Thank you so much! I agree about the sucky graphics and audio. I plan to try and further develop those skills over time. I appreciate you taking the time to do a detailed review!
A fun puzzle experience, I enjoyed it. Took my a minute to realize what the number means on the character when on the moon jump! good job!
Thank you for playing!
I loved your gameplay here. Really cool puzzle mechanics and fit the theme super well as well. Nice job!
I am very pleased to hear you liked it. Thank you so much for playing!
