A very interesting and unique game.
The premise is a little silly, since it kind of depends on characters frequently posting their email passwords on social media... and the idea that the boss doesn't want to be called "boss" out loud, but does want to be called by his full name... but I guess that was all part of the trap. Also, the idea that Distant Lurker would find out a rich guy's BANK ACCOUNT password, and then use that to access their email instead, is very funny.
I liked the artwork but the UI was a little tough to look at.
This was lots of fun to run through!
Thanks for the feedback, I guess the context was a little odd since I'm not a particularly good storywriter :P The amount of unexplainable irony in this game is incredible heh
When you mentioned that the UI was a little tough to look at, did you mean the text (size or font) or the design of it (like colour and arrangement) or something else?
Glad you enjoyed it though :)
The fonts were fine, but the colors were a bit too saturated for me, and some of the features were a bit confusing which didn't help (like check mark to start a new conversation, versus connect to repeat an old conversation)
Ah I see. I tried to pick suitable color palettes from online resources but I'll keep that in mind.
The checkmark is used to enter a new link, (in which pressing enter works too) while pressing connect is connecting to the same link which would cycle through to old and new conversations.
I guesss I could have simply have had the connect button everything would be simpler. :P
The feedback was really useful, thanks :D
This is a very refreshing and unique submission. I've always wanted to try Her Story but I've never prioritized that game. This is encouraging me to try that out. Anyway, I love how surprisingly colorful the game is, and it has a nice message. Text-to-speech was a nice touch. I feel like I beat it relatively easily, just following the cookie crumbles across the digital information, but I do wonder if maybe it has more branching paths that I just didn't notice. Well done with this game!
Thanks for the feedback! When I was attempting to find playtesters, the opinions were mixed on a spectrum of being too hard otherwise being too easy, so I decided to solve the game being overly hard since that wouldn't be particularly enjoyable to for many. I suppose there weren't really branching paths since its was just a red herring or too along the way, but I would have loved to add some of those to make the game much more interesting than it currently is.
Oh damn! This was a really unexpected entry! I found it really endearing and completed it all the way through. I love puzzles and it was a nice little break, thanks for creating! A copy/paste functiton would be great as an unlockable so you can quickly scan the word you want by clicking it and then drop it into the right place!
Thank you! :D Ah a copy and paste function could indeed be really helpful, I'll probably add it in another update, thanks for the feedback!
I liked the game art though its simple but I liked it
also liked how the game make you feel like a hacker or stalker in social media and getting to there emails and stuff its so fun and cool
there was some glitch when you press on the continue button in one of the tabs then press the link enter button
if you do this a random letters will appear.
other than that
Good job!
Thanks for playing! I'll work on a fix for the text after the jam since its nothing major. I appreciate the feedback :)
Great game. Really loved the story. But I’m a little sad about the Distant Lurker as he got in the trap….. jk Great Story
Thanks for playing hahaha. I needed a reason for having those AI - like voices since I'm a terrible voice actor myself (heh). And I figured it left the game to have the possibility to be expanded upon which was a nice plus too :)
I really enjoyed playing this game! It has such an interesting concept and the way you interpreted the theme is great. Great work!
Thanks! Glad you liked it :D Your team's game's mechanic is pretty interesting too, with the interpretation of bug in a contextual way. It was really fun playing it.
very innovative approach on the Bug theme! I'm a fan of her story, so I got naturally glued to your game til I cracked the end (was there 1 ending right?). I would have liked more complexity but I understand there is so much to be done in that limited time, especially all by yourself. Props for the audio, very relaxing!
Thanks for playing the game! Yep there was only one ending. I would really like to have added extra paths to the game as it would probably have given people more things to explore I suppose, like trying to expand off the fixed story storyline with a few more red herrings too. Really glad that you enjoyed the game :)
Impressive scope and the theme is on point
Thanks!
good game! I love the art style, UI, and great gameplay overall.
Thanks for playing!
Fun to play! I really liked the interactivity and narrative, and I'm glad I was able to copy and paste some of the text, but I also wrote some of it down just in case!
Glad to hear that! I didn't even realise some bits could be copy and pasted and got worried if some information were too complex to transfer :P
Interesting, really like the game like this, so this is what the social hacker looks like. it's scary how the social media can be our own weakness.
Thanks! Yep, though its slightly over exaggerated, its true to the extent that we can be exploited to such degrees.
Interesting game.
Thanks.
The best game I have played so far! consistent UI, nice relaxing bgm, and intuitive gameplay.
And of course the story and it's ending made me laugh, GG :)
Thanks! :D
I really enjoyed playing this game! I always love to see cyber security concepts being turned into games , in one way or another, and this was very fun. I do think that a lot of people fail to think about how much of their lives and information are online and how unknown people can find that sort of thing easily. I think the graphics add to the charm of the game, and the game play loop was fun and engaging. If this ever gets further expanded, I'd love to play it again.
I really liked this concept which made this a joy to create, glad to hear someone else liked it too :D. Thanks for playing!
Really catchy game, I played until the end haha :) I hope you can add more of this game in the future! Really well done :3
Thanks! I might re work the mechanics after the jam :)
Wow, a very well made game! Consistent art style and UI, great gameplay and a valuable message! :)
Thanks for playing! :D
A very great game. This game realized my childhood dream of becoming an evil evil hacker. Love the art style of the photos in instasnap. The idea is interesting and several parts in the story made me laugh. (
"Just in case I forget my password I will post it on my social media.") Did you do the voice acting yourself as well?Btw when using the bug database. I can connect to a valid address then try to connect to an invalid address, which would append characters from both strings in to the text box. But its just a very tiny bug that does not affect the gameplay. You can delete this comment after reading it :D
Thanks for playing the game! I'm glad you liked the art hahaha. Some parts may be over exaggerated but there are truly people in the world who take cyber security for granted :P. I wished I had the chance to do the voice overs myself but they're from online text to speech AI voices. (Just realised I forgot to change that part in the credits)
The bug database was pretty bugged. xD I was trying to fix the problem of overloading the text display when it gets spammed and only managed to limit some parts of it. I'll be sure to fix it after the jam.
Really appreciate the feedback you gave!
Her Story is one of my favorite games, I'm glad you made a game like it!
Thanks!
Played the entire game, very interesting concept, love the way you emulated computer interface with the UI. It would’ve been cool if it wasnt so linear and if we had to look harder to dig up clues. Would love to see where you could bring this with more time to spend on artwork - has the potential to be a very fun puzzle game! c:
Thanks for playing the game! I had thought about adding branches for different storylines into the game but met with time limitations, but it really is something I could have incorporated into the game. Glad to hear you liked the art too hahaha. I really appreciate the feedback :)
I really enjoyed this concept! I've always have a soft spot for fake computers (hence my own entry).
The puzzles were interesting and I enjoyed how you had all the different sites I could access. The gameplay loop of finding full names and searching them was also quite fun.
It could use maybe a bit more graphical polish, but the gameplay itself is fun so it is not a huge deal. I enjoyed the text to speech.
Good job!
Thanks for playing! I agree that I could have focused a little more on polish since there was a little more time than typical game jams (was probably concentrating too much on packing content into the game). I really appreciate the feedback. :)
Yes great job though. Very creative and good core.
