Wow, what a intersting idea on the theme! We try to understand the theme on different aspects, but seems your idea is greater!

Okay this one was definitely a favorite! I always love dual-world mechanics and you did a great job of connecting them. You have different puzzles and obstacles that require the player to invesitage both worlds and swap between them. I really liked the "Lost Forest" section where you need to identify doors based on the paintings in the dead-world.

Also I really liked the pixel art and the sense of humor. It was funny and reminded me of a Lucas-Arts adventure game. Very quirky and a ton of fun. Great job!

Hi! I'll be playing If You Stop (Your Heart, You Die tomorrow on stream along with several others games from the jam at 3:30pm EST. I'll be talking about any interesting design decisions as I play, and suggesting improvements if any come to mind. Please feel free to join me live, it'll be extra fun to chat together about your game while playing it :)

Developer(+1)

If I'm awake I'll definitely tune in!

Here's the segment where I played your game! Like I said in the stream the writing in your game is super fun, and I think using the dead mode in both puzzle segments and platforming segments ties to two together really nicely for one big coherent and fun experience. If you have the time, I'd seriously think about developing the game further into a full adventure. Thanks a bunch for joining me on stream and participating in the discussion so much, it was great to have you there! I'll be keeping an eye out for the next time you do a jam so I can cover it as a Jammy Wednesday again :)

Developer

Really good stream. Your critiques were very insightful and you really have the balance down between being constructive without being inconsiderate/condescending at all.

Great beginning, excellent puns and gameplay tricks, however, disappointing main mechanics. Do not get me wrong, all is perfect except it is a bit cliche. Or maybe it's not super original to me, but it is not important. It was a great experience. Maybe if you could continue on that and add more surprising things in the sorcerer's workshop. Just remember to make the things more and more weird, difficult and confusing, so the player really feels like it is a black magic. Would be a 10/10 metroidvenia spin-off if you add more items. Just a thought. Well done.

Developer

Great feedback, Taberu. I completely agree about the main mechanics. I spent wayy too much time trying to get the narrative mechanics in and ended up running out of time for the more "gameplay" aspects. I had a bunch of enemies and weapons on my list that I just simply ran out of time to implement. Even as I was building it I kept coming up with ideas for whacky magical artifacts that would make the gameplay more interesting.

Thanks again for your thoughts on the game :)

WHAT A MASTERPIECE!

Soooo gooood! When I was dead for the first time I was like WOW. Music, art, theme, and fun, everything was there. I hope you will add more story to this game later. See ya guy ;)

Thanks for playing it! I definitely want to explore more of the Wizard's Castle. So many rooms of wierd and magical artifacts to discover!

Submitted

Probably my favourite so far, the voice of the wizard had me in stitches.

Developer

You flatter me! Thanks for the kind words and I'm glad you enjoyed it :D

A really neat game, I just wish it was longer :(

Developer

Thanks for playing :D Another few hours would've helped haha

This was just a Solid all arounder! The music was fitting and the fact the beat remained but the instrumentals changed when you swapped 'worlds' was great, I would play a full fledged version of this with a bit of melee combat or something!

Developer

Thanks, steelax! Yeah, my sound designer did a fantastic job with the music!

I had a magic sword and enemies on the list but sometimes you just  overscope and run out of time in these jams 😅

Submitted

Really cool idea! Was super fun as well and way longer than i expected :)

Developer

Glad you enjoyed it :D Hopefully it wasn't too long - I try to be wary of making jam games too long that people lose interest.

Submitted

Don't get me wrong. I really enjoyed that it was a bit longer!

Enjoyed this one a lot! Surprisingly creepy,  great contrast between both worlds, and nice touch with the music too! I loved the self aware joke about getting stuck in the wall. Really great job!

Developer

Thanks for the kind words! I knew someone would get stuck in the wall haha. I'm glad the creepiness of the otherworld came through
