  • In Tesla's Trial, you are an apprentice who was trapped in Tesla's world and you have to defeat his robots to pass Tesla's trial. This game is reminiscent of classic 8-bit games with an improvement in shooting thanks to the mouse. The backgrounds are a direct reference to integrated circuit boards, transporting us to an electric/electronic world. Improvements: It's hard to make the character jump and sometimes it becomes difficult to defeat certain enemies.

Cool entry!

I like all the different mechanics and elements you included: the normal movement, jumping, dashing, dash/jumping, and shooting directions with the mouse also.

The level was a bit dense with enemies and shots but I somehow got through it and beat the boss. Good job on the boss also; he had some cool moves!

GREAT GAME!! NICE ART STYLE

The character, boss design, projectile and dash animation are cool! A way to restart the game after beating it would be nice.

Good platformer game i love art and music. At the beginning I had a little trouble fiding out that i have to press the left button to continue, so I would put some kind of indicator there at the beginning. I also found it a bit chaotic how it switched between the boss fight and the first room but maybe that was the intention. Otherwise a great game.

Wow! It was a sprint through bullet hell! It reminded me of the Contra series from the old days!

Developer

Contra was definitely one of the inspirations, thanks a lot !!

Chaotic shoot’em platformer, so like the arcade games of the 80’s. Same authentic music too. And open source too! Cool.

Developer

Hey thanks a lot, man !, Yes everything about it is open source.

Great job on the concise yet engaging game! The inclusion of a boss fight at the end was a nice touch.

Developer

Thanks a lot. Yeah we loved making the boss too.

So, once I got the game to work properly it was a cool game jam entry. Nice visual style, you mixed it up with the boss which was good. But, I had to spend five minutes refreshing the game, looking through the comments ect trying to get the game to work. Once it worked it was pretty good, it was just those bugs id work on in future. Good entry.

Developer

We are sorry about that, we will surely try to fix everything next time that we couldn't do this time.  It was our first time working with phaser so everything was new and challenging, hopefully, we can make something better next time!

Congrats to you first Phaser game. I really liked the pixel art! I think there are a few things you could improve:

  • I would lower the size of your game on the itch.io page, as it appeared pretty huge on my screen and it was hard to find the "run game" button.
  • I think the music starts again when you restart the game. Keep in mind that in Phaser the music is global and does not stop when the scene stops. Especially for background music which you loop, I would always check if it is already running. I usually do it this way:
    if (!this.sound.get('music').isPlaying) {
                this.sound.get('music').play({loop: true});
    }
  • I think the game is pretty difficult. Especially for a game jam, where people usually do not spend more than a few minutes playing the game, you should ensure it is very easy. Keep in mind that you play tested it quite a bit and you are very good at it. If it feels very easy for you, then it is usually ok for others :).

Anyway, nice game. Keep it up!

Hey, thanks! It was our first experience with writing games in Js in general. Phaser was definitely a learning curve.

  • Yes, the size of the game is more than intended, we will fix that.
  • Music we implemented in the end so could not give it much time to test properly and figure out bugs as we did not know much about Phaser.
  • We wanted to make 3 stages initially so the difficulty curve is better but we had to wrap it up in 2 so had to make the game a little harder than we wanted but I'm sure if try you will beat it !

Thanks a lot for your kind words, means a lot !

There's a boss fight! I defeated the boss.

The first few bots were harder to defeat than the boss! When I died it jumped to the boss fight?

Neat game, love the pixelart.

Developer(+1)

Yes, there is a boss fight in the end!

In total currently, you have to defeat in total of 13 enemies to get to the boss so that everyone can get to the boss if the game feels too difficult, so even if you restart the game after dying in the first stage you can easily get to the boss next time.

Thanks a lot
