Brilliant idea to use your corpses to solve puzzles, also the game aesthetic is very cool. The only thing is that sometimes is difficult to position your dead body in the intended position. Good experience overall!
Thanks! I've seen a few examples with a similar concept, glad you liked it though!
Nice game, interesting mechanics, but I think that making the "bodies" static after rebirth would be better fot the intended use! And preventing the "alive" character from falling on its face and moving weirdly afterwards would also help a little!
With more polish this will be a very fun game! Congrats!!!
Cheers, thanks for the feedback! When you say the 'alive' character falling on his face, what do you mean? There are certain areas where the loss of control is an intended mechanic. Would adding some sort of indicator that it's about to happen help? Maybe like a window that you jump through and after which you are ragdoll'd
I meant the areas like ramps in which you go down and than lose the vertical alignment of the character ("it falls on its face", but "ragdolls" is probably a better term lol).
But, if it's intended, than it's intended! It's just a feature that I personally got frustrated with. I bet many others would say it's a good feature!
I like the idea of informing that you'll lose the control, maybe an icon above the character head?
Good work nonetheless!
nice game to play, just think the movement mechanic can be improved a bit, sometimes the character looks to be stuck. Also, not sure why sometimes the character can just move anymore but can jump (?)
Thanks! Not sure what you are referring to, any chance you can give some more details about when you felt the player model was stuck?
Sorry, these are two different issues.
1. When the character is touching some vertical surfaces, it looks like is not moving as normal
2. When I jump from some places it looks like I can not control it anymore, but jumping
For example, in level 2, I pass the first gate, and there is a ramp down. When I jump and reach the end of the room, the only thing I can do is jump and do small movements while in the air
Played and rated.
Pros
Cons
Overall a nice looking game with interesting mechanics, but the gameplay speed and corpses positionning gets in the way of being fun.
Would appreciate if you try and rate our game too: https://hadilepanda.itch.io/rise-of-necromancy
Cheers for the feedback! Much appreciated. I do somewhat agree with the movement speed issue, and based on the feedback we've had so far, we'll be overhauling the movement system as one of our issues that need to be sorted after the voting period is over! Do you have any suggestions for how to improve the control of the bodies? Another comment suggested freezing them in place, but I feel that may be too much?
Yes having an ability to freeze their rotation so they still fall with gravity but stop rotating all around would be a good idea in my opinion.
Funny game we had similar idea, its kinda hard to jump on dead characters
Thanks! Glad you found it funny, that was one of our design choices! Cheers for the feedback!
Nice game, I did find it difficult to jump on to the death character. Kept slipping maybe adding more friction would help
Thanks for the feedback! We'll look into the friction on the bodies so they are better for jumping on!
Very impressive game, looks like you had lots of fun with physics :)
Will definitely rate well.
We certainly did! The physics provided a bunch of different challenges while developing, but also add a lot to the overall gameplay IMO! thanks for the rating!
Awesome game from concept to delivery. Great work!
Thank you so much! Very kind words!
Very fun game , I like the Mechanics of the game to.
Cheers for the feedback! Glad you enjoyed it!
Beautiful visual design! I really dig how this game looks! Fun puzzle solving mechanics too.
Thank you! It was my first real go at creating a collection of 3D assets for a game, I had a little experience, but I have learnt no end of stuff throughout this jam. Cheers for the feedback!
That's really cool! I usually like to create all my own assets in a jam too, it's part of the fun for me. Have yet to do anything in 3D though.
Cool game! The level design is very well done! I think you need to work a little bit more with the movement system, since the game deserved it. It's not a bad system, but definitely a little annoying. The jump is a little too floaty to my opinion, and you feel like you are on ice. Also, I think you should do something about the jittering when player moves. I assume you used a rigidBody for the player. If that's the case, consider trying moving the camera in LateUpdate or FixedUpdate, it should fix that
Nice job, amazing!
Thanks! Interesting, I haven't come across LateUpdate() before, but sounds like it might well be a decent option! Thanks for the suggestion!
Great submission! Loved the aesthetics. The physics around trying to move the bodies around to be useful was a bit frustrating but very good submission all around
Awesome, thanks for the feedback, the body movement seems to be a bit of a theme in the feedback, we'll be addressing this after the voting period ends. Thanks for playing the game!
Phenomenal. 5 stars all around. Congrats.
Thank you so much, very much appreciated!
Great concept and look, and love the demon's design (especially the eyes on the past corpses!)
I also liked the moments that you fling your body down a hill, great fun.
There were some moments of frustration though, in particular the multiple steps that required corpses to get up. You get up 2 or 3 and then one of them rolls off the platform and you need to go back and do it again.
Thanks! Appreciate the feedback! I completely agree, we had a bunch of different playthroughs at the end and I felt the same about how frustrating it can be, will be looking to overhaul the stairs system a bit post-voting period.
For this entry, I played one of the best games I've ever played. The one that appeals to me the most. Despite the fact that this is your first jam, I respect the effort you put in to create a great game. The level design is quite imaginative. Best of luck in your future endeavours, folks.
Thank you! Very kind words, we fully intend on continuing work on polishing this game up to a mobile release in the not too distant future.
I liked your use of the mechanic and the ragdoll/pinball physics of it, but I wish I had better control over the character... It was pretty fun though!
Thanks for the review! Any chance you can elaborate? What sort of 'better control' would make it feel better for you? There are areas where total loss of control is part of the game, but if we can improve upon the general controls then I'm all ears for suggestions
Sure! Positioning the dead bodies felt more like a trial-and-error process than something that I could master. I would die over a button and then discover that my body has rolled off of it. Jumping was hard, it seems like I could only jump over my body if it was sideways, but I couldn't find a way to tilt the bodies constantly - I just smashed the buttons until I could get them where I wanted.
This is really nice! Seeing as you've participated in your first Jam same as we did I am even more impressed! I played up until level 5 and I saw absolutely no way to beat it - I definitely tried though.
I ended up pushing the second gold bell, which you get from under the initial spawn area down because I depleted all options, I think!? But then there was no way to get the bell back for sure.
I did manage to clip through walls on several different occasions. Most notable on the right side of sliding doors between the door/wall area and on level 5 in the middle of the second jump platform, which actually has no collision, you can clip through the wall in the back to end up in a different space (maybe intentional, I don't know :D). And lastly I was able to skip obstacles by "sticking" to the wall/edge side and skipping some obstacles. Again not sure if intentional, I kind of like the ability to creatively go about completing stages!
Amazing submission, really impressed! Thank you for that!
Thanks for the amazing feedback, yeah our first Jam! Has been a wild ride, I've not played your game yet, I noticed one of your teammates also played ours, it looks like one I need to spend time reading through the page (excellent level of detail btw) and I want to be able to give it the time it deserves. It's on my list of ones to play!
As for the level design, I think you are talking about level 6, as level 5 only has one bell (we called it a box/cube, the orange thing with the black case that you push into the grey holes?). I don't want to give too much away just yet (early days in the reviews) but there are some things that are intentional game design
You stating that it could potentially be intentional makes me want to try again! What did I miss!? AaaaAAh :D
Really really lovely work! I want to give other submissions a look as well so time is limited, but this is definitely one to come back to! You can be very, very proud!
You created a real cool game! Implementing the dieing-for-progress mechanic hits the nail on the head for this Theme - and applying it in a 3D-environment definitely is a challenge, but a breath of fresh air in puzzle plattformers!
Enjoyed it, struggled a bit with the jump from time to time (but thanks for the instructions on your itch.io Page!) and wish you the best of luck in the future
Fantastic, I could not stop playing!
Love the sacrifice mechanic!
