This was great! i love the dice roll mechanic, it added an extra step of panic to trying to grab the right ingredients, and it's one of the more interesting twists I've seen on this kind of assembling food/drinks games in general! The music was very quiet in the game compared to the sound effects. Also I didn't know that ducks could be so grumpy and impatient... :D I love how the art looks in the game too. Great work!
Thank you James! The dice rolling mechanics was the first thing we thought about implementing so we're glad you like it :)
The music is quiet at the start because it gets louder in the end and we didn't want to blow everyone's ears off, plus we didn't have time to implement the settings to lower the volume so that seems like the best choice at the time. The ducks just want their drinks haha, we wanted to give them more personality so we thought it would be fun for them to be more and more angry haha :D
I had so much fun drawing the ducks and the backgrounds so I'm glad you liked them! Thanks again for playing and hosting the jam!
Thanks James, it really means a lot to hear your feedback and that you enjoyed our game :D
I wish we could have had time to audio balance "Hall of the Mountain King", but unfortunately that's something that we had to skip to meet the deadline. We figured it was better to start quite and build up rather than start equal and make the players deaf by the end.
I love cooking/assembling games and dice/card games, so I'm excited that you think it worked out really well. (And isn't Shawn's art so beautiful? /O.O\ )
Never test a ducks patience, you will always live to regret it!!!
I liked a lot the visuals and the game was very nicely done! I enjoyed a lot playing it. The only thing that was a bit annoying was that I was re rolling a lot to get the last ingredient that I needed and ended up losing points.
But other than that, I loved a lot the visuals, and definitely enjoyed the game. This is the best score I got so far. Almost got perfect! D:
Thank you so much for playing and for all of the kind words! It really means a lot :D
Sometimes the dice gods can be very cruel and prevent you from getting the right ingredient. I will say, it also does make those moments when you get really lucky and "combo" your drinks feel so good!
Also, 1600 is a really solid score, congrats. So close to a perfect, too!
Thank you so much! 1600 is a very high score! Right now the dice rolls are completely randomized so a lot of the game is centered around luck and chance haha. We are thinking of potential ways to tune the randomizer so it can be more fair to roll the ingredients but it was something we didn't have time to implement during the jam. Maybe in the future we can polish up the game more!
Thanks for playing the game and the feedback! Glad you enjoyed the game :)
Yea its true that its completely randomized, I tried to beat my score again but didn't manage to do it.
Its true about the game jam, the time constraints doesn't lets you add or fix some things and that is the challenge of it.
I don't know how one could tune the luck chance since I have no way of knowing how.... Hmmm maybe have a big number? Like instead of choosing from 1 to 6 you choose from 1 to 12. That way by checking the next 2 customers drinks you assign the values that you want more chance to add.
Example: Customer #1 wants 1 + 4
and Customer #2 wants 2.
You could assign to the list what numbers you want to output 1, 2 and 4.
Like for (1) gets assigned 1, 7, 8.
(2) 2, 9, 10.
(4) 4, 11, 12.
Before assigning its value, you check if the number is already taken and check the next one to take.
This way each 1, 2 and 4 have a 25% chance of being selected.
And the other ones: 3, 5 and 6 have a 8% of being selected.
You could experiment on that, like it could be used for a future game if you are going to use random selection.
Maybe instead of choosing a random location for each number, it could be like this:
Like for each future number you assign it in an ascending order, also having other checks so the last numbers still have a number assigned.
It doesn't has to be 12, it could be more.
Next customer values: 5+4, 2+1
(1) = 1,2,3;
(2) = 4, 5, 6;
(4) = 7,8;
(5) = 9,10;
(3) = 11;
(6) = 12;
Something on those lines, there has to be some videos on YouTube explaining about it.
I hope that helped a bit.
Very confusing to start with, but got a bit better as a few fails and successes were made. Very nice entry. I'm not a fan of the serving games as I get all nervous and freaked out as I fail to make the customers happy (which is probably why I am not in the food industry IRL). LOve the game tho...my wife would play this all the damn time!
Super cute game. I was a bit confused at the start but soon got the hang of it. Lovely art work and love how the music adds so much to this game.
I managed to hit 800, but my heart almost jumped out of my chest. Super intense finale. Very nice implementation and fun to play!
One of the few 5 starts I gave in this jam! Super polished game given the time limit, has a familiar gameplay loop with a fun randomized twist that actually adds stress in a super good way. On top of hitting the game feel super well, the art looks great and the simple animations actually compliment it well!
1300 pts on 3rd try :p The hall of the mountain king fits nicely but definitely makes the ducks feel angrier.
