Good idea (I had a similar concept) but *really* difficult to control. I think you could improve the movement overall.

It's a very nice idea. I like the concept of throwing ammos (Sand in Greek). I must say it was extremely difficult to control. A very good polished submissions overall.

Developer

Hey thanks a lot! I agree the controls seem take time to really get used to for new players, though once they get it most people say it's a blast. Also nice you found out our little wordplay :D

This game is really challenging and super fun!! :D  I love the colors and art -very satisfying to use the gun too!!  The music and sound design is top notch too!  Amazing work!!  :D

Good job, the aesthetics are really nice and the sounds, too. The concept is original and it feels good to play. The jump mechanic is a little difficult at first, though and the learning curve is a little steep.

It's hard! very nice

i love the game ! well done

Really well done :) I love the retro feel it has and how simple and adorable the music and art are! I think this is a keeper for sure.

This was amazing! I really love how you can recharge your gun with the rising sand when you're close enough. I think with enough work you might have something really special here!

Hey ! Thanks for the game :)
It is great, and obviously polished and well done, but I must say I had too much trouble with input mapping to enjoy it :c I first tried playing with a controller because I thing this kind of game is perfect for such an input system, and I realized the jump key with Y (I'm using an Xbox One controller), which really surprised me and was too counterintuitive to get used to, but what annoyed me at most was that no trigger or buttons on top of the controller was used, while a trigger would have fit sooooo well for the vacuum action. Then you just jump with A, shoot with X, and you're good to go. So I then tried to play with keyboard, it was clearly better and designed for it, but I'm bad on platformers with a keyboard haha (cannot blame you for this though :p)

Otherwise - and obviously considering the fact that I had trouble with inputs - I think the level is too punishing too soon, one missed jump and you're almost guaranteed to get caught by the fire, as you then have to vacuum and then try jumping again. That's a cool mechanic that would be really fun for experienced players, but it was a bit frustrating in my opinion. Jumping and double jumping is hard in your game and there already are long jumps to perform at the beginning. I LOVE difficulty in games, but in my humble opinion, it was unfair here.

Last negative feedback, the menu navigation using a controller was pretty annoying, as switching from an option to another using a joystick would also change the value of the newly selected option (guess the dead zone is set to a low value), and you cannot switch from last value to first one, don't know how to explain it clearly in english, but like, if you have 3 values A-B-C, you cannot go from C to A, you must do C-B-A. Same goes for the options themselves, and there were apparently no back shortcut so you have to go to the back button which is at the bottom, without the possibility to just go from the first option to it by going up. Sorry if it is not clear, feel free to tell me and I'll try to explain it better :D

So that was it for the negative feedback, but there are obviously really nice things to say about the game ! First, about the options, I'm glad that you put a toggle to disable the scanlines. I personally like them, but it's always good to see developers adding options like this for people to customize a bit their own game, since it does not change anything about the design and can only be positive.

The lava in the tutorial that never touches you and the facts that it waits before starting a level is also nice. Makes in way less frustrating as it would have been if you had to start jumping fast when beginning a level. Wall jumping is nice, I would have make the character slower when on a wall, but I had absolutely no trouble dealing with it, which is nice because wall jumping can really feel horrible and frustrating when not perfectly working.

And I liked the visual style of the game :) simple but veeeery effective with nice color choices, beautiful interfaces, some discrete but nicely fitting environment details. The only asset I'm not a fan of is the static lava that's here for you to reload, but that's actually the only one.

Overall a good entry ! Hope my feedback is not to harsh, and I'll be happy to play the game again if you change the controller input mapping ! :)

Hey,
Actually I don't mind criticism, so long as it is constructive :)
I am sorry that the controller part didn't work quite well for you. I just didn't have any way to test it and make it work for any controller.

The level design is made of premade chunks placed semi randomly (harder chunks spawn only from a certain height onwards), although it is true that said chunks could be more polished and balanced.

For the menu navigation with controllers, this (also) went untested, I couldn't caliber it for controllers.
As for switching options it was actually designed to not allow going from C to A, because I had some bad experiences with menus like that in the past, but I do understand that when done right they do feel better. (I think I'll change it to that after the jam)

Finally, I'd like to point out that what you think is fire is actually sand (also, fun fact: "ammos" means "sand" in Greek :D)

Anyways, thanks a lot for all the feedback, positive as well as negative, it helps me make better games in the future :D
I think I'll try changing the controller mapping after the jam, but I can't guarantee it'll be 100% perfect.

Wow, this is amazing!

The execution of the art, sound effects, and design is outstanding!

I especially love how the game forces you to move fast, while also forcing you to stay close to the ground to recharge your sand meter.  I applies the perfect amount of adrenaline required for a fast moving game!

I think the only suggestion I have, is to add mouse controls for aiming your sand blaster, since it was quite tricky to get used to (given the high gravitational pull).

But honestly, awesome game!

Thanks a lot!
We worked really hard to make the graphics and sound as best as they can.
As for me I worked as hard as I could to make the game feel the best it can when playing :)

Not using the mouse controls was actually intentional, we wanted to design the controls to be closer to those of an arcade game.

a very cool game. i just wish the shooting and moving direction wouldn't be on the same buttons, but i guess thats half the fun :D
very good job and a ton of juice in here.

Developer

Thanks a lot :D
Also thank you for pointing out immediatly the password problem ;)

This game feels so good. The art and animations look amazing combined with a really fitting color palette as well. The sound effects and music leave a really nice touch in the overall experience. This game is polished from head to toe and the juice is on point making it feel very satisfying to do every action.

Although a problem I have lies in the control since it takes a while to get used to, I suggest changing the vacuum control to the mouse and limiting the directions to 4. And change the fire button to left mouse and jump to W. I think that'd make the game more enjoyable.

Overall a fantastic entry!

Nice game.

Really clean looking, and the gameplay feels great once you get used to it. Once I realized i could vacuum the sand below me, and shoot towards the bottom to jump higher, it was a lot easier ! haha (was relying on wall jumps for the first part until I couldn't anymore =) )

cool game, pretty innovative! i like how jumping by shooting is an intended mechanic :)

Submitted(+1)

The control does taking some time getting used to but it was well worth it! A very fun game!

Artwork and game play is excellent! It's really difficult because the movement fights direction in midair (want to fall left, but need to move right to blast left) but if I play it enough I might get the hang of it lol

Submitted(+1)

It's a little dificult, but i like it!

Submitted(+1)

I love this!
It took me a few tries to get the hang of the controls but once I was comfortable, it was really satisfying to control the character and move fast. I could totally see speedrunners play this and do some unthinkable strategies to climb fast!

The art style / color palette was on point, the music is perfect and the level of polish is impressive for a jam like this. Bonus point for all the settings you guys made!  It looks like a game that could be released on Steam ;) GG!

Developer

Thanks! It means a lot to me :)

Really cool game! I like the concept and mechanics, it can be a little finnicky at first, but it becomes easy to use after a while.

Very fun game! I can see myself coming back to this after the jam and trying to beat my highscore. I do have to agree with the other comments, the controls are a bit finnicky and while the shots are really good at launching the player, there's no way to control the force and ends up shooting me all over the place. I feel like adding gamepad controls may help out with that or maybe lessening the force?

Outside of that, I really adore the art and visuals of this game. Everything is well communicated, the scan line filter is a very nice touch, the color pallete is nice, all in all great! The music is also pretty nice but I want to point out that the music keeps playing even when the game over sound plays. Anyways, great game and you all should be proud of yourselves!

Developer(+1)

Thanks a lot :D
Actually the music playing after death is a feature.
In the game the music is adaptive music which gets more and more intense the further up you go,
and when you die, all layers except the drums fade out, to make a more chill ambience

Submitted(+1)

Got it! That's really cool actually, thanks for informing me!
