pretty game but ninjas don't use katana

Developer

Whoops! I do hope this doesn't call into question the plausibility of a game about a Korean business school drop-out forced to play golf underground.

Nice

Best Cyberpunk Cowboy universe game you can find! All stars!

Good Job, how did it do in the other jam?

Developer(+1)

The Global Game Jam isn't ranked so there's no way of knowing! All I can say for sure is that it didn't win the informal "people's favourite" vote at my local jam site (but I'm not sure it was eligible as I was only taking part online). It's gone down very well at a local gamedev meetup, though, which was a nice confidence boost. Thanks for asking!

This Game was very Fun and very calming to play! The Sound Effects… Were Beautiful!!🥹🥹🥹 Excellent Work on the Game!!!

Submitted(+1)

Very simple style for the gameplay itself but it works well and is consistent. The sound effects are hilarious and great and the cutscenes make me laugh way more than I thought. I need to go back and beat it later. It's fun to play. My only suggestions would be to let the balls collide with each other after a split, maybe on a timer, and make them stop a bit faster having them have to stop completely before you swing again feels really really slow.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing! I did initially want the balls to collide with one another, and the main reason they don't is simply that I found it too hard to implement the sort of timer solution you describe. In hindsight, given that the size of the ball halves each time (meaning that the two new balls could fit within the diameter of the one you're currently working with) it probably would have been possible to spawn two non-overlapping balls and have them able to collide from the very beginning. If I come back to this I'll definitely make the balls stop moving faster, or at least make it possible to take another shot while they're rolling at an absolute crawl - that's proven to be the main issue with the game is it is now.

A very fun and unique mechanic with lots of room for expansion.

If I had to remake this I'd add in information about whether I need to get the ball into certain holes or if any hole will do, and I'd make the red line drawing for smaller balls work by clocking on the ball instead of behind it. I'd also put some warning in for the video because it freaked me out the first time, like a jump scare :P

Good work! Are you going to continue it after the jam?

Check out my entry if puzzles are your thing :)

Developer

Thanks! Now that you mention it, something to indicate that any ball can go in any hole might be handy. Typically where there's more than one it's because it's easier to get the balls  into separate holes than the same one, but now that I think about it there's at least one early exception to that.

I'm afraid I'm not sure what you mean about the smaller balls - they should all require you to click on (rather than behind) them regardless of size. Did it work differently on your device?

Submitted(+1)

Yes, on my laptop I had to click near the small balls to make the lines show up, but with the big balls I could click on them.

Developer

Thanks for letting me know! That's definitely not intentional - if I can find some way of fixing it, I will.

Chroma key forever!

I love the effort you put in this game. It's very interactive because of the videos.

i love the actual guy, and the simple yet challenging aspect of the game!

great job dude.

Really glad you like it so much! This is quite a boost. :-)

I finish all the level and wait for your video on every end of the level. The other level is super hard but i have fun playing it. also I love the song on the last level. XD

This game was really simple but very fun and entertaining. The videos made the game so much more awesome.

Hahaha ... wow didn't expect FMV ... amazing. Fun game as well

very fun, top mechanics,

Man, that's the kind of game my friend would bring on a burned CD to my place about 24 years ago and we would sit there and lough our butts off and try to walk it through until the morning.
Maybe I have this throwback because it reminds me a little bit of Elastomania. Or maybe we used to make these kind of games in the past and had a lot of fun.

I could cut the golf ball all the time only for the "YA - SWING" or whatever the sound is :D So great.
And the surprise song at the end is killer!

The whole idea is awesome. Please continue after the game jam with a 18 hole version. and more surprises. I would love to see that!

Developer

Glad you like it! I recorded all the sound really quickly in the final hours of the jam, and there's actually not that much of it. The golf ball bounce is just a tongue-click pitched up in proportion to the balls' size, and the swing sound is a combination of a "HI-YAH!", a knife scraping against a spanner, and me saying "SCHWING!"

Having got the basic golf game down, I'd love to do an 18-hole version! I originally wanted to have a level select screen as well - I only dropped the idea due to time constraints (and opting to do FMV cutscenes, which both ate up the final couple of hours and made it slightly harder to offer the levels in a non-linear fashion).

Really creative game! Awesome

I spent exactly 10 minutes for 9th hole but you know what? Worth the closing theme..

Developer

I made sure to confirm that every single one of these can be completed in a single shot, but I'll be very surprised if anybody actually manages to wrap it up with a score of just nine. Glad the time spent on the theme tune was worthwhile! It wasn't a lot, admittedly, but it was in the run up to the deadline so the pressure was on.

Submitted

Yeah you are right ı felt the pressure as well (maybe because ı made all sound and music in last day) lmao ı could be so bad at playing golf with a katana. Have you tried my game <3

Developer(+1)

Just did! I'm afraid I had a lot to catch up on after dedicating a weekend to the jam(s) so I didn't get around to playing any others for longer than I would have liked.

lmaooo I didn't expect that , funny and original game but the ball rolls very slowly I had to wait a long time before I can slice it again

Developer(+1)

Thanks! Yeah, the balls can be pretty slow. I probably should have let people take another shot once they dropped below a certain speed, or possibly just designing levels to minimise completely flat areas (since I think that's where it happens). I'm still getting to grips with physics in general - but having a lot of fun with it!

Submitted(+1)

Honestly I laughed out loud when the FMV played. The mechanic of slicing the golf ball also worked surprisingly well, but sometimes it felt like an eternity waiting for the ball to SLOWLY stop rolling so I could slice it again. Great fun overall!

Developer(+1)

Haha - glad you liked it! The FMVs were a really late addition, but something I was hoping to work in from the beginning. In hindsight I should probably have allowed another slice once the balls dropped below a certain speed rather than once the physics engine has let them sleep, but originally the plan was for there to be a par for each hole so at the point I got the mechanics sorted I was thinking people would want to know for sure that they weren't about to waste a shot on a ball that was about to drop in a hole anyway.

Submitted(+1)

Absolutely understandable. It's still enjoyable regardless so at least you were able to get this put together before the deadline!
