Great job clever idea :D I really liked the art and sound effects too
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!
This has to make it into the top games of this jam! The ambience is amazing, art and sound fit very well together, the main mechanic is simple and easy to understand but leaves quite some room f or clever and suspenseful realtime puzzles and each level challenges you in a different way. Much love!
Thank you so much for the kind words!
First off, this game is by among one of my favorites of the jam. It goes beyond the rating categories. The design, adherence to theme, and originality are the best I've seen in the jam. However, it continues to impress me with the atmosphere, music, art, etc.
I am surprised how little entries were horror themed, because the theme was only one. Typically giving the player only one of something they usually have a lot of lends itself to making the player feel powerless. I am huge fan of horror games. Although few actually scare me nowadays, and I'm not ashamed to admit that this game's atmosphere and sound effects were effective enough to unsettle me. Despite it's cute art, which I believe provides a beautiful contrast to the narrative and atmosphere, it is scary. In my opinion, this game is excellent beyond words and I am craving more of this game.
My only critique is that the mechanic of killing the same monster the same with the spikes would get too repetitive if the game was longer. However, the game was short enough it did not over stay its welcome. If this game were to be made into a full game, I would love to see different creatures and different ways to kill, run, or hide.
Super glad you enjoyed the game. We were pretty surprised to find ourselves taking the horror route too, seeing as how neither of us have made a horror game before but it was definitely a fun challenge. Totally agree with the critique, had we had more time we totally would've added those features.
Thank you for trying our game and thank you for the feedback!
really simple yet challenging mechanic. Also you added a bit of scariness with the monsters. I loved tricking them into the spikes.
They hate that though but it's cool, they're dead anyways.
My 5 year old son and I played this game all the way through 3 times. It scared the crap out of him but he loved it. Great job!
Oh wow, I need to know how this started.
Very nice and well tuned mechanic! Fits pretty well with the theme. I definitely got a bit spooked the first time I saw the monster though haha
We scare because we care
Nice one! Took a second to figure out the mechanic but it was pretty fun once I did. Also like, legit scary. The graphic on the monster's eyes in the dark is really creepy. Not 100% sure how close to the theme it is, but my game completely ignored that so I can't really talk haha.
nicely polished, solid mechanic, i think that it could evolve into a nice little puzzle, by adding a few monsters with different behaviours, and maybe a way to place candles on the floor/walls
Thank you for your feedback!
I thought of adding monsters to expand the game but I did not think of placing candles, that would definitely be a nice addition !!
Thank you for trying our game!
GREAT job! The atmosphere is set up really well, the level design is top notch, the main mechanic follows the theme and is well used... really a gem. Hope to see you in the top 100!
Thank you for trying our game and thank you for the positive feedback!
Hope to see you in the top 100 too!
Great art style and atmosphere. I especially like the planning skills required to be able to safely move in the dark and kill enemies at the same time. I'd love to see how this idea can be developed further. Well done!
Thank you! It's great to hear that people are approaching the levels strategically which is what we wanted.
Wait... am I the bad guy? Anyway really nicely made game with unexpected atmosphere for an indie jam game. Nice graphics too and the gameplay works really well. Also pretty well done tutorial that lets the player learn the mechanics themselves. Really good job!
The dark one will lengthen our nights, forcing us to get our 8 hours. Diabolical. We hadn't tested the tutorial but it's good to hear that it's doing its job. Thanks!
Awesome game! I love the style and that wobbly light effect really make the atmosphere!
Thank you and I'm glad you thought the wobbly light helped the atmosphere.
Wow, I love this take on the theme, very original! Very detailed, polished, and immersive for a jam game, which really helps sell the spookiness. It's designed very well, I was able to figure out the puzzles on my own which is perfect, makes the player feel clever :)
I felt like I was able to cheese things a bit by getting to glance at the diagonal tiles while I switched between orthogonal facings, not sure if that was intentional. However I think without that the later levels might have felt a bit too much like simple trial and error? Hard to say, and it's all just a nitpick anyways, amazing job!
Feel free to check out our game Einnsamr as well <3 https://itch.io/jam/gmtk-2019/rate/463168
Thanks for playing the game! The slight glimpse of the diagonal tile was actually intentional because we were trying to fine tune how much we should allow players to see without being too frustrating and still be spooky. Would love to check out your game.
That scream spike hit effect got me the first time lol. The game has a unique vectorish style really cool! Pretty polished feel with the cutscene between levels.

Thank you for your positive response! I'm glad you enjoyed the game
I'm checking out your game now too
Very cool game ! Great atmosphere and easy to play.
Thanks for playing!
Proof that you don't need AAA graphics to make a scary game.
Gonna put that in the press release
Nice atmospheric game. Very good art style and music. I really enjoyed it.
Thank you Admixpl? How do I pronounce this?
I've no idea, but my name is even harder "Łukasz".
I really loved it. The art and sound were great. Loved the progression being displayed as a fire for each level.
Also: Pink blood > Red blood.
Thanks Messie, glad you enjoyed it. We originally wanted to show the player lighting a giant candle on each floor too but had to cut it unfortunately. And Pink blood is indeed superior to Red blood, I'm glad you think so.
Nice game. I like the idea, the graphics are really good and nicely polished. The game feels smooth but I think more puzzle elements could add more depth to gameplay. Overall good game, good job !
Thanks Andrei, I agree that we could've added a bit more depth to the puzzles but I'm still proud of what we've accomplished.
