A bit late, but I just discovered this entry. Really nice work! I enjoyed very much the presentation, as well as the puzzles. I just wished there was a console history, or a way to just "toggle" doors. Typing "close" and "open" in the middle of action is quite tricky.^^ But otherwise, really cool game!

You don't use a classic controller, you play using a command prompt, without direct control on the ingredients. Take out the viruses before the computer gets out of control.

I didn't replay the original levels, but went straight to the new ones. The first couple of new levels are too easy. Then B en C require very accurate timing. Level D is overwhelming at first, but not difficult with a bit of trial and error.
It all felt a bit underwhelming compared to the original jam version. I also noticed that you changed some of the commands like "open" and "close" to "opn" and "cls". That does make it faster to enter commands, but it would be nice if you still accepted the old commands. On the whole, I think you made it too easy. I liked having to frantically type in commands in the original. Though, it is nice that the error sound is not as loud.
Thanks for your feedback! Yes I made the game easier enough to enable more players to get to the last levels. A lot of them were slow typers and did not achieve until level 4. I made this choice because I really wanted to make slow typing and not to good players really feel like a clever hacker. The first levels are here so the player can learn the new RM mechanics and it's effect (kill virus, then kill several virus not connect, then also kill anti-virus) maybe it's a bit too much introductory levels. There's certainly a good middle ground I can find by further balancing when I'll have the time. Thanks a lot for your constructive feedback. :)
It's a good game. I personally found the last level too easy, it's kinda anticlimactic since it's easier than the preceding ones. People have different experiences with levels so what I found easy might be difficult for others but I still think it doesn't provide closure.
Is the virus floating downwards into the void on "boot" in E_hackerman intentional?
Thanks for trying the new version! Yes it's intentionnal, the game is over at this point. And yes you're right the last level is very easy (as si the 5th). My goal here was to make a puzzle that seem complex but in the end is not, I've seen some players feeling very clever after that. But if you were frustrated, maybe it's not that good. Thanks for the feedback. :)

Clever use of Unity's Post Processing features. (this was made in unity, right? I'm not crazy?)

this is awesome!! i really love the concept and presentation. if i were to give criticism, i'd say that adding the ability to separate commantds with a ; or add a wait function (like in quadrilateral cowboy) would be helpful and let the player focus on solving the puzzle and less on whether they can type fast enough. also, i ran into a graphical bug on level 5 where the crt effect didn't appear. other than those things though, this is a really solid old os game with clever level design and controls that are the perfect amount of clunky but still intuitive. excellent job!!!

10/10 just amazing. The idea is great and the presentation is one of, if not the best, I have seen in the jam. Great work, keep it up :)

This is excellent! And what a great take on the concept. The look and vibe are really nice too. With more levels I could play for hours! Fantastic work!

This was super cool man! I love the theme. I love the presentation and how you did the VO and SFX. Really and immersive experience and made me feel like i was really in front of the computer. Sadly, I couldn't get too far because of my typing speed but I thought it was fun. Killer Job!

Things I liked:
The whole presentation really got me into a hacker mindset, with the screen aftereffect (especially the fail animation), and particularly the key stroke sfx. I found the difficulty to be just right, hard without feeling impossible or completely overwhelming. I liked the design on a lot of the later levels, especially 5 and 7. You communicated all the commands diegetically, which makes it feel much less like a tutorial and much more like part of the experience.
Potential areas for improvement:
Some of the earlier levels felt a little redundant; it felt very clear that you can use commands before boot from the get-go. Level 6 felt too easy in comparison to the levels around it, mainly because I think there were an unnecessarily large amount of doors. It felt simple, but you seem to be working on changing that for the better, although you should probably keep in mind the tightness of the timing while typing multiple different commands-- it's already pretty hard. Also, the idea of a "crazy" virus feels very un-fun, particularly in comparison to the other ideas you mentioned, which seem like brilliant mechanics with lots of cool possibilities.
Overall:
You've committed to improving a game that already feels great, which I'm very happy to see. Given what you already have and the ideas you have proposed, I believe that you are fully capable of making this game even better than it already is. Good luck, and I'm excited to see what happens!
Thanks a lot for your feedback! Yes the two first levels feels redundants, I wanted to be sure the first level was possible for someone who did not understand he can type in command before the boot (and a lot of the playtester I got fall into this category). The ones that understood directly are bored on the second level. Yes the 6th level is more easy than I thought, I will certainly remove level 2 and put level 6 sooner. Yes you're right! I've tested the crazy AI actually it's garbage. :p

The screen within a screen actually made the experience pretty surreal! (The warped screen effect was very effective.) The loud clacking of my keyboard put me in a "quick coder" mindset and added a lot of weight to the experience. I look forward to a game like this with more commands at my disposal. I can't even imagine the directions it could go! My only complaint, and it's a minor one, was that I wish closing the door before the virus getting there was a little more forgiving. A few times I could see the virus wasn't blocking the door, but the command prompt told me I was! I was still able to get through all the levels, so it wasn't impossible.
Thanks for the weird game experience! I really liked it!

Extraordinary atmosphere, totally a cool game some evening while wearing headphones. I like that you added your voice to the game and I highly enjoy the idea of controlling a game by typing.
"help" command is very useful, but I forgot about it immediately, along with all the other commands. Thinking of it as learning a new programming language, I believe it would be good to hold player's hand for the first couple of levels and help them just a bit more.
