It looks beautiful (though your sprites are sharp, while your terrain is blurry). I like the idea of not getting to control when you switch characters, but I think you need to telegraph better when the switch will happen.
The game feels really tough. I died way too often. Other than that, it is pretty nice, I feel that the amount of player feedback could be improved though. We got a timer on the arrows, but it is barely visible, and some traps were definitely looking a lot smaller than their hitboxes which created a bit of confusion. I enjoyed time spent with it though! Idea seems fun and I didn't really see anything precisely like this one.
Nice game! I have some suggestion tho:
First, a timer for how many time you control a charater. Because It feels a little bit random
Second, sometimes I don't need to use a characher, so maybe a way to skip him would make it better.
Overall, well done
I like the concept, it's a very interesting take on "control 2 characters". but I have to agree with Brohmyr's and Zettabit's points. and if you don't mind, one more suggestion from me: I think the game needs some kind of timer or any other visual representation of switching between the characters. and if there's a timer that player can see, you'll be able to play around with it to create more challenges, make it longer or shorter, add an ability to change the timing, etc.
anyway, few more steps, some polishing, and it would make a great game. keep it up!
This game has a nice idea, but the execution is a bit rough. There are two main issues that prevented me from really enjoying it:
First - the switch between characters can be very jarring, especially if you are moving when it happens. The character you switched from loses all momentum, even in the air, and the character you switch too moves before you can even react. I would recommend needing a new movement input after switching, and maybe not switching while you are in the air to help with this.
Second - the hitboxes for some of the hazards feel a bit unforgiving. This is especially painful since the movement feels very slippery and you can't vary your jump height. This compounds with the first issues when characters stop midair during a switch and fall to their death, or slowly slide off of obstacles while you can only helplessly watch.
Sorry if this is too harsh, but I feel like this idea had a lot of potential, and I feel like I would have quite enjoyed it without the above issues.
You weren't too harsh! These are some great comments! There is definitely an issue with the characters sliding. The characters are sliding because I couldn't figure out how to stop the sliding . I introduced 0 friction for the character to fix another bug, although it introduced problems you mentioned. So that's why they are sliding. And once the character is in the air and the switch happens, if I don't fully stop the character they just keep sliding on the ground.. A silly bug that limited us a little... Hitboxes on the spikes are definitely too large. I will definitely address your mentioned issues next time .
Thanks for the comment and also thank you for playing :)
Love the idea. Some sound and music could do wonders. Could even use it to communicate to the player when the switch is about to happen. or some visual aura flash or something. It was fun still :D.
Yeah, that actually a great suggestion. For some reason we didn't think of using sound as a switch indicator. Thanks.
I love platformers! Great game and idea! You can also take a look at our little platformer, if you have time :)
Thanks for playing. I will check out your game too :)
Cool game! It fits the theme really well! I never really got how the player switching worked so it did feel a bit frustrating at times.
You get 3 seconds for each character. Although it could definitely be improved by adding a better indicator on when the switch will happen (and some other stuff related to the switch).
Also thanks for playing!
Really nice game, would be a little easier if the characters moved slightly slower but it does add to the fun having them so quick
Thank you for playing :)
Very nice, it fits the theme!
Thanks for trying our game out!
