What an entry! I love a strategy game with a lotta mechanical depth, and boy does this one deliver.

Honestly, I suspect there isn't enough time left in the jam for me to fully appreciate the potential of this game, but I'll still be playing it after rating season closes!

The presentation is incredibly clean - the music is fantastic, the graphics are understatedly tasteful - and all the little touches for movement and combat phases communicate everything so efficiently while being satisfying to watch.

A winning entry if I ever saw one!

good game!

Phenomenal entry.

I guess this game's biggest problem is that it really needed a tutorial or something because I was stumped for quite a while about how it actually works.

That, and that it was kinda easy in that I got a score of 13200 and stopped after that mostly because we were at a stalemate kek. But that's not really a big issue anyway lol.

Great mechanics here. I have no qualms there

And that music ( oh gawd the music ). Gave me huge " into the breach " vibes but is still a banger none the less.

You guys are probably going to win again lol. Congrats on this

Developer(+1)

Into the Breach was indeed one of the games mentioned during the brainstorming process. Thanks for playing!

Game has very nice visuals and smooth animations. Not sure how to calculate your strategy when there are so many cards. As I understand the only objective is not to loose 20 hp and gain score. Also like the goblin cards design

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the feedback! I have a question, though.

Not sure how to calculate your strategy when there are so many cards.

Can you elaborate a bit on that?

I mean because there are tons of different cards it gets hard to actually think multiple turns forward like people do in chess. But I guess you dont have to do it in this game

Having created an impassible deadlock at the center, I think I can safely say I’ve won the game, haha

I definitely had fun! The game feels impossible to lose at the moment, but that’s nothing that can’t be updated later on. Music felt extremely fitting, and contributed towards the whole game feeling like a pretty relaxed strategy game!

I really liked just skipping turns and seeing the units hectically shooting each other.
Gameplay was a tad confusing for me, I took a while to understand what could the cards actually do. Also, for some reason I thought I was the right side of the board. Took some turns for me to understand I was with the blue guys, but in hindsight I should have noticed earlier since the swap sides card has blue with a smile lol.
Sounds and music are top notch, very fitting.
Visually it is really pleasing, I would just like a way to actually understand what's going on from the get-go, but since this is a rather complex game maybe it would require some sort of tutorial which wouldn't be feasible in such a short timespan.
One really minor nitpick I got was the volume bar at the start screen made me uneasy, it seemed like it could move further due to the bar background. It was hard to accept it would only go so far considering the image.
Kudos on making such a well-thought entry!

Thank you for the feedback!

Yeah, a proper introduction of the mechanics is the first task in our post-jam to-do list. And yeah, I'll try to tweak the volume bar as these end margins are kinda ridiculous.

This game was incredibly well thought out and polished. Visuals were impressive, mechanics all felt balanced and intentional. I did find it a little hard to lose. I think having the enemy have a health bar like we do and having a win condition to move onto a harder opponent would be fun. At later stages the enemy could also have access to the swap cards like we do. Very good work.

Thank you for the comment!

Yeah, I tried to balance the difficulty but prioritized the polish and implementing all sounds and sprites into the game, so I ran out of time. Glad it landed on the easy side though.

If we decide to continue with this game (looks like this concept has legs), I think we'll try to make a campaign of some sort or something.

Oh my gosh this is GREAT. The gimmicks of the different troops were really fun to use to my advantage, especially with the switch sides cards. I also love how even though you can permanently block the opposing side, it isn't profitable because you need to kill troops to earn points. Love it!!!

This is so awesome! Thank you for sharing!

Awesome concept and excellent execution; if put in the style of like plants vs zombies levels, with additional cards, units, different maps w/ obstacles, even abilities (e.g. destroy all units in a column, etc.) as u progress, this could definitely be a full fledged game

Submitted(+1)

This is really something special. I will just come out and say that this is the only game so far that I’ve rated 5/5/5. It could certainly use a few balance adjustments, but that’s not really a big deal, and the underlying concept just works super well. With some tweaks, a tutorial, and maybe a short campaign if you’re feeling ambitious, this could easily be released as a full game. Fantastic job!

can't really say much that hasn't already been said! very polished entry with unique gameplay, the difficulty is on the easier side but that's to be expected from a 48hr jam game. all this really needs is some rebalancing and a tutorial to be a full release! great work

Great job! I can see myself playing this casually.

Really good entry, I have not seen anything else like this in the jam. It plays very intuitively and is easy to pickup. There is lots of room for strategy. My only feedback on the gameplay side is that it might be a bit on the easy side. As far as presentation goes, it looks beautiful, clean, and super readable. Great job.

The game is pretty cool once you get a hang of it. The graphics are really nice and I like the style and the music very much. My favourite strategy was to swap sides of goblins on the far back of opponent's forces, also tried to create a death squadron of sniper elves, but it didn't go as planned :D.

There were some bugs and exploits but it didn't hinder the experience too much.

Honestly I don't know if I can give a bigger praise to the game than saying that I spent way too much time on it... If a jam game takes 30+ minutes out of my day, somebody did a good job.

I would of course want to see more cards, more races/classes, maybe some elemental fields on the board etc. but as far as the jam version is concerned this is a solid entry for sure. Pretty light but clever use of the theme, and once again a great style.

When I first saw the WIP screenshots I wasn't really expecting what I got, but as a fan of card games I couldn't ask for more, and as a fan of puzzle games I basically created my own puzzles in the game and challenged myself to do something that well... I succeded:

Once more, great job team :)

Graphics were simple but fit very well, I really enjoyed the submission. Despite the lack of tutorial, things were relatively intuitive, honestly it gets a little too easy once you know what you are doing. Some QOL stuff like showing the attack range of a unit when hovering over it would be nice, but as it stands its still a solid entry.

cool art, best music, couple gameplay/balance issues, very very fun.

Submitted(+1)

Very fun game. I think at the moment it's kind of let down by lack of clarity about what you're actually supposed to do and how the main mechanic works. Once I figured those out, I had a fun time with this. The presentation of the game was really good, both graphics and music. Overall one of the better ones I've played so far.

This game has great visuals and while it took a minute to figure things out, it was very intuitive once I got the hang of it. I'm not sure if that's already the case but I would love if the game got progressively harder or had a win state – I felt like I reached a stalemate. The units had perfect attack patterns which were really fun to play around with.

Submitted(+1)

I really like the concept. Just add some well-defined goals and some levels and you've got a fully flashed out game!
