Wow, that was close.

I also tried to win as the demon, killing the hero, the victory screen was displayed.
Game without bugs. Good job.

Thank you for your review and well done winning as both sides! 😄

Good spin on the theme. O would work a little bit more on responsiveness. The mage needs a little bit tighter controls and the demon a little bit more obvious spawn indicator. You got lost sometimes in the controls. Also maybe you could add spawn points for monsters to make the gameplay clearer.

Also, not 100% why, but when I killed the mage as the demon I lost. Idk if this is a bug or if I didn't get the rules. Overall, a well-put game. Nice job.

Developer(+1)

Thank you for your suggestions! 😄

I think adding some sort of spawning indicator would have been nice for the demons! Regarding the mage, I am not sure how to make the controls feel nicer, but I will take a look.

If you defeat the witch as the demon, you should win, unless you swap in the last second. If you really did not swap, then that is unintended and a bug.

In any case, thank you for the detailed review! 😁

Interesting concept! It was like I was fighting myself. Trying not to set myself up for success. More levels would have been nice! Also I skipped the tutorial so it took me while to realized I wasn't playing haha

If you have a moment I'd appreciate it if you'd also check out my team's game!

Thank you for your review! 😄

I would have loved to add more levels, but I did not have any more time in the jam!

I wanted to try your game, but unfortunately there is no web version, and I do not run Windows, so I can not run it. Maybe you could add a web version next time?

Nice game! I think it's a very original idea! Playing as the hero and the villians in the same game is something very unusual and having different goals was interesting. And i think is well balanced as well. A solid game for a jam, congratulations!

Developer

Thank you for the feedback, I’m glad you liked the game! 😄

nice idea! when I played it, I thought that what if it becomes vampire survivor style so one time you become the player, sometimes you need to kill the player.

some things I can say is that because the player get blocked by the enemy it makes me stuck in hordes of enemy and can't move.

it is really refreshing where the majority of the game is only me becoming the "demon lord" in this jam, while you made it that we keep switching. great work!

Developer

Thank you for your review! 😄

I wanted to make it so that you could break out when surrounded by enemies, but did not have the time to figure out how to do physics of that properly. 😅

I’m glad you liked the game anyway! 🙂

Interesting idea with the swapping. Reading some of the comments below I see you mention the game spawning enemies if you don't spawn any so I get what was happening when I played. And I think there was also a effect of killing enemies too close when you become the demon lord?

There does feel like there is a imbalance with you being able to weaken the witch and then get rid of her easier as the demon lord side. It is much harder to get a win as the witch but more rewarding which was nice.

Developer

Thank you for your review! 😊

Yes, the enemies around her get removed when the switch happens. This is to prevent going into a large crowd of enemies, from which it is not possible to escape, just before the switch, and winning that way. Of course it is still possible to set things up in a way that is advantageous for you, when on the other side!

I kind of like the imbalance between the two sides, as it makes for a sort of dynamic difficulty - if you want a challenge, you can try to win as the witch, or if you want things to be a little easier, you can win as the demon lord.

Yay, I won! That made me happier than expected :D Nice game!

I guess we did have a similar idea. Great minds think alike they say! The way you went about it is pretty neat. But when playing as the demon lord I was hesitant to spawn any minions because I wanted the witch to win. I could be biased since I like cute witch girls. But it did feel more advantageous to play to just one side. Maybe there could be some benefit to the witch when spawning minions like a power-up or currency being dropped when they die so I feel more motivated to throw enemies at her.

Developer

Thank you for your review! 😄

I sort of foresaw people wanting one side to win! It is somewhat balanced by the fact that more enemies spawn after the switch, if you do not spawn any yourself. I feel like the framing might make people more likely to take the cute witches side, rather than the monsters. Maybe a more symmetric framing would have worked better - I just wanted to add my cute witch character to the game! 😄

I will definitely take a look into adding some sort of incentive, such as power-ups, to motivate players to place enemies, which they then have to fight.

Very nice concept but in my opinion the story should have been kept shorter (for the game jam), most people probably wont read it...

Great game, was fun to win!

Developer(+1)

Thank you for your feedback! 😄

Most of the text at the beginning is instructional, I was trying to keep it short, but I did not have the time to cut down on the word count unfortunately 😅

I’m glad you still had fun though! 🙂

An interesting concept that was well executed, with cute presentation! I love the dynamic role reversal. The game can use a bit of polish and adjustable music settings :)

Developer

Thank you for your review! 😊

I’m glad you liked the concept! Unfortunately, due to time crunch I was not able to polish it too much, and was only able to add a music volume slider. What kind of other settings were you missing? Maybe a music switcher, or a mute button? I would love to add your suggestions to my next project!

Submitted(+1)

48hrs is really not much time to add any sort of polish, so do not worry about it! The sliders are good, but I think it would be nice QoL feature to be able to toggle sounds in game, as even on the lowest slider volume of the sounds I can still hear the spell SFX quite clearly. But all of these issues are just minor inconveniences that can be easily adjusted by playing around with values, so keep up the good work! Good luck with your next project!

Developer

Thanks for the feedback! I usually tune my sliders so that the zero point is actually zero volume, but apparently I messed up here. Sorry about that! 😅

I will try to spend a bit more time on tuning it correctly next time, and maybe add a dedicated mute button to be sure!
