Presentation and art is great, but the game is a little on the weak side.

You had a similar base concept as I did, but condensed it down to a simple 30-60 second experience.

The only real complaint I have is that the attacks I had weren't actually numbered, so I had to just mash keys to activate the ones that were off cooldown.

Short but wonderful experience!

The graphics of this are lovely, and the concept is incredibly well executed! I do agree with other reviews that there should be less attacks to choose from as it makes it far easier to spam. I also think that some sort of indicator should be placed in game rather than just the itch.io page for the controls. Either by placing numbers next to the attacks or a line of dialogue on the U.I. somewhere that explains it.

Best score I managed was 31 seconds and that was by spamming. Playing in a more legitimate fashion I'd average about 40-45 seconds. It was good fun though, you can be relatively confident you have a good product if it warrants multiple playthroughs and I played through it several times!

Thanks so much for the feedback! Agreed. We figured that the game was simple enough that we didn't need to spend time with an in-game tutorial since this was just a 48 hour jam but if we continue with this concept, in-game tool tips would be a good idea. Thanks for playing! (And great score!)

Glad to see another hand drawn game!! Beautifully done! I liked the perspective on the columns and the small details you chose to include.

The game play was fun and I have seen other takes on the final boss in this jam, this one was easily the best take on that. I the overall vibe of this game is super enjoyable and would love to see what you can do with more time.

Thanks so much!

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to play as a cool final boss!! I really liked the art and the ambience you created it works well, and I had lots of fun
As other said before I wish I had either less powers so I could understand them better and strategize instead of randomly spamming, or that they would be introduced progressively. But I get that it was a 48h jam so not a lot of time to balance the experience.
Awsome game, great job!

Thanks so much for the feedback! Yeah, button mashy gameplay seems to be the main critique so we'd definately have to address that if we decide to continue with this game. Thanks for playing!

The art and animation is well done, making the scene feel lively. Having 9 different skills available is also impressive.

As others have mentioned, I found myself sliding my finger along the number keys to spam the skills since optimizing 9 skills at once is pretty impossible for me. It is also kinda difficult to tell the effect of the skills, but having no penalty for misusing them allowed me to experiment for a bit.

I read that it's your team's first submitted game jam. Congrats on that! The quality of this game is much more than what I my first submission. Great job and good luck on your future works!

Developer

Thanks so much! I agree, the game is a little button mashy. It would have to be addressed if we continue with this game in the future. Thanks for the feedback!

Nicely done! Trying out all the abilities to see what they did was neat, though it was a bit more button-mashy than strategic. The art looks great as well!

Thanks for playing and giving feedback!

This was pretty well done. Simple concept but it does fit the theme of the jam and pretty easy to get the hang of. I'm impressed that there are 9 different abilities, however sinc they all charge relatively quickly, you are usually better off spamming the abilities rather than trying to use them at the right time. Pretty good art as well, and even though the game goes by quickly, it still manages to be quite enjoyable.

Developer

Thanks for the feedback! I agree, the game does end up being kinda button mashy. We'd have to address that in a future build. Thanks for playing!

cool game!

my record is 37 seconds :D

i love the art and how dynamic the game is. maybe i wish there were fewer skills (5 or so) and they were a bit more different in attacking style, but overall that was fun :)

Really great game and also fits the theme well. I really like the strategy but also chaos in managing attacking and defending, and the mastery of trying to beat the game as quickly as possible!

I actually screamed when I beat the game!! That's a mark of a great experience right there. Yes the game can be beat by button mashing, but I can genuinely see potential in the game.

Developer

Ahaha thanks so much!

This is really well made! I feel like it should take a while longer to win and maybe have a chance of losing... but overall it is a fun game! well done

Really great hand-drawn art-style and a concept that I think has some legs. I ended up feeling like the optimal strategy was button-mashing numbers since they each had their own cooldown (as far as I could tell). Turning blocking into energy that's used for the attacks could make things slower and more methodical.

Also the "no dice" joke got a laugh out of me so thanks and congrats on y'all's first submission!

Thanks for the feedback!

Been reviewing quite a few of this years submissions and this is a stand-out for me. Great art style, fun gameplay, addictive loop, thematic music. Great project that the creators should be proud of!

Thanks so much! (And that's a great score!)

Well aware that the time constraint puts a lot of pressure on developers like you so I do want to reiterate that you should be happy with what you produced here. If you were to continue developing this project I would be very interested to see where you go with it from here

Developer

Oh for sure. We're both very proud of ourselves especially since we tried to join last year and ran out of time so badly ha ha. But yeah I definately have some ideas on what I could do with this concept with more time and I imagine my brother does too. Thanks for your kind words!

Great job you two! The game feels really good to play and uses an interesting implementation of role reversal, and the art is impeccable! Though it felt like I didn't get to know which attack did what, it definitely felt like I was playing the other side of a bullet hell, which was awesome.

Developer

thanks so much!

Wow! This concept is very similar to my game! Very polished and fun! My only complaint is I wish it was expanded on further

Developer

thanks! We'll have to check out yours as well!

Impressive art. It was a nice experience playing this game. It is a bit hard to keep track of all the spells and cooldowns. Maybe using the 2 mouse buttons instead of 8 and 9 would've made it a bit smoother (the mouse buttons being the 2 lowest CD spells).

But the experience is an overall positive one for sure.

This was so cool, i loved it! I figured a lot of games in this jam would go for some sort of "boss kills hero" but this was the best of them i've seen yet! The using the hand to protect yourself and the large array of attacks really did it for me, makes the player really feel like the boss of the game and not just a re-skin of being the main character against a boss. My only criticism would be that there should be a global cooldown besides each ability's own cooldown, because as it stands i focused on defending and just mashed 1 through 9 back and forth. Also the presentation is top notch, it's very well made and has a lot of personality to boot, very pretty and recognizable, i think you did an amazing job with this game, congrats!

I like the focus on the core concept and the art but the attacks feel a little too similar to each other for me.
