How does your game fit the theme?
The game depicts a fight with a 'final boss' in a dungeon. However, in a reversal of roles, the player controls the boss and the AI controls the adventurers. We designed the mechanics around giving players the power fantasy of being a boss (like heavy weapons and second phase of combat), but also some of the negative aspects (long, telegraphed windup animations).)

Good take on the theme, I liked the dialogue, good job!

Developer

Thank-you! We learned Unity's Timeline feature during the jam to get the custscenes working nicely

This was a really well presented game and although you didnt make the art our sound, you used it in a really clever and effective way. Awesome job with this game.  My only complaint is that I couldn't skip the cut scene but other than that , fantastic job :)

Developer

Thanks so much! Yeah, during development it was immediately frustrating that we couldn't skip the cutscene - we had it set up so that there was an option in the Unity editor to disable it, but that feature didn't make it into the game in the end due to time constraints. To clarify on the art/sound front: we didn't make the adventurer sprites or the sound effects, but did make Gorignak/Brian (+animated tentacles and all attack sprites), the arena + lava sprites, and the intro/boss music themes. Thank-you for playing, very much appreciate it :)

Funny dialogue, unique idea.

Developer

Thank you!

The dialogue was super fun ! It made it alot more fun to squish those pesky adventurers. Really fun idea aswell making the boss name change halfway through. Reminds me of games like undertale and everhood, that type of comedy. Super fun little game !

Developer

Thanks so much for noticing the boss name change! We were worried it wasn't obvious enough. There is one more name change in the code that doesn't appear in the final game as we didn't have time to implement the trigger: in phase 2, after the line "No more Mr. Nice Brian" the boss name was supposed to change to "Brian, Not Nice Anymore".

Submitted(+2)

Haha liked the take on this theme. That was funny and fun. Really enjoyed it

Developer

Thanks for playing :)

Fun game, really enjoyed the dialogue!

Developer

Thank-you for playing, glad you liked it!

Submitted(+2)

Hah! The name of Boss is just... Brian. Brilliant!

Developer(+1)

Maybe loads of bosses have secret normal names but we were just too busy attacking them to find out :'(

Submitted

Agreed : (

Great writing, great presentation and well executed idea! Really cool entry :)

Developer

Thanks so much for playing, glad you liked it

I've played quite a few submissions and so far this one has my favorite writing and sense of humor! I'd love to see a full game made out of this, where you're just living the normal day-to-day life of Brian and heroes occasionally walk into your house to cause trouble while you're doing mundane things like cooking, cleaning, watching TV, etc. Excellent work on the graphics, music, and gameplay! Very fun all around :)

Developer(+1)

Thanks so much! I really like your idea, too - maybe there'd be little minigames for each mundane activity, and you'd have to balance spending time on getting them done with swatting away another invading adventurer..

poor Brian! he definitely deserves victory :)

the art is cool and the gameplay is easy and satisfying. i would love to have a skip button though, especially starting from the second try! but it was fun indeed :)

Developer

Thank-you! We got so close to adding an auto-skip after the first run, but just ran out of time at the end. Hope it wasn't too tedious to replay!

Submitted(+2)

Very fun game! I loved the idea of playing as Brian. I've seen other games with the same idea but i think the humor in this one really makes the difference. Congratulations!

Developer

Thanks! We were really hoping the humour would land, very glad to hear you enjoyed it

I really like this one, despite this idea being done to death. The only nitpick would be the AI felt a bit simple and I couldn't do much besides spam left click and hope I hit them. That is until phase 2, which changed to Space instead and walking backwards to exploit the AI. Best of luck in your future jams!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing!

Very much agree about the AI, it's my biggest gripe with it too. Decided early on to go with a simple system for them and regretted it later on when i tried to do anything smarter with them. Thanks for the feedback, its greatly appreciated!

Cool implementation of the 'play the enemy' concept. Clean and polished for a jam game, well done.

Developer

Thank-you so much for playing!

Poor Brian. People just come into his Home and Start Killing him for no Reason XD.

Jokes aside the game play was great. I really like the Art-style and the Gameplay. Great Game!

Developer

Thank you! Brian really is the victim here, I'm glad everyone can see that

The idea of the game had been done various times but in this is the best game over all of them. The game was funny and playing as the boss felt nice. The music also fits in the game perfectly and everything looks sooo nice. Congrats!

Developer(+1)

Thank you! We're interested to see different interpretations of the same (or similar) idea. I checked out Don't save my princess too and very much enjoyed, thanks for sharing :)

Submitted(+2)

So much fun! The dialogues were funny, the theme interpretation worked perfectly, and I liked the combat mechanics.

All hail Gorignak Brian!

Developer

Thanks for playing! Glad you appreciated Brian :)

Submitted(+3)

Alas, poor Gorignak, I knew him so well...

Submitted(+2)

Funny, polished and cleanly executed idea. Would have wished for maybe one more attack and didn't really understand what the right mouse button "traps" did. Perhaps also skip the intro for retries? Super fun though! :)

Developer

Thanks for playing and for the feedback! Skipping retries and additional attacks were both left on the cutting room floor, would have loved to get those in. Maybe after the jam is over!

Submitted(+2)

This was very fun and polished! Favorite game I've played from the jam so far :)

Developer

Wow, thanks so much!

Submitted(+5)

I wish they just left Brian alone. this is fun to play! :)

Developer

Agreed - he was just minding his own business!
