This was a really fun game! A great addition to the jam. The gameplay is nice and the art is really well-made. I think you did a great job implementing the theme, too! Overall just a really nice experience! :)

Whoa this is a really awesome game! Honestly this feels like one of the most "game" like games in the jam where I wanted to keep playing versus others that feel like a basic proof of concept. It felt good to play and was very engaging. Once you get into the swing of things its cool to upgrade your staff and stuff with new abilities.

A few minor things I do want to mention:

  • Level Up Instructions - So I played my first 2 games completely unaware that Tab is how you level up. I went through them entirely thinking that the level up was broken because of no new health or damage being done. I then proceeded to be one shot by the boss on level 1. Second attempt I made it to level 2 and died, and was about to quit when I decided to check the controls button... and hey look Tab takes you to the level up screen! I really think this should have been somewhere within the game itself (apologies if it was and I just missed it!)
  • Starting Health - Fortunately it seems like the stats from the previous rounds carried over so I decided to give it another third run! I was probably over leveled, but with upgraded stats and staff I was having more of a blast! One very annoying thing though is as you beat a boss and go to the next level, despite upgrading health the health remaining just starts at  40 again. So on level 4 with not potions or heal rooms I got one shot by the basic monster and instantly died. I'm guessing this is just a minor glitch.
  • Somewhat Repetitive - The game is great fun, especially for a jam game! But by round 3 it was starting to get repetitive since it only has 3 enemies and a boss that I'm aware of. I'm sure if you had more time there'd be more though!

Anyways overall this was truly fantastic, and out of the nearly 60 games I played this jam, I think this is in the top 10 or maybe even 5 most fun out of them. Great work and good luck if you end up making this into a more full game!!

Putting the level up instructions in the controls, might not have been the best idea, haha, but adding like a little prompt in the corner to level up or something might be a good idea to ad in the future. And yeah, i didn't notice that when you restart the game your stats and items dont get reset, also a mistake on my part that i'll fix if I decide to update the game. I also notice the repetative aspects of my game, my original plan was to have 4 different level each with different bosses, and different "card packs" or levels with different rooms and enemies. I'll 100% be fleshing out the game more if I decide to work on it more so that it isnt as repetative, but you can only do so much in 48 hours. Thanks for the great and constructive review, and glad you liked it!

The lighting staff feels sooooo good! With the effect that will hit all enemies close together 1 at a time. Splendid!

Art is super dope! Great work! 😁

Couldn't play it, cursor doesn't match where my mouse is no matter what I tried.

Developer

Yeah, sorry, if you have a 1920x1080 monitor and you play in fullscreen the cursor should work, but ill try to fix it so that it works in any resolution!

Very impressive! Had a lot of fun with this game!

I felt like the order you chose the cards had little to no consequence to the game. Besides that, it is an awesome game, very impressive that you all managed to do this for the jam!

Looks beautiful. Plays great.

I would maybe start of with a smaller set of cards ? It felt like I could just keep drawing them at the start. Made it feel a bit overwhelming.

Such a fun game, I really hope you keep working on this. My mind was buzzing while playing with all the different directions you could take it. Excellent job!

Game's a lot of fun! The sprites and enemies look really nice, and the controls feel nice and responsive. None of the enemies feel unfair, and overall I like a lot of the design choices. The stats are easy to wrap your head around once you put a point or two into them, and levels aren't hard to come by so doing so isn't particularly difficult.

A couple things I'd like to see if you continue development:

  • When attempting to pick up an item while your inventory is full, it will vanish into the ether. It'd be nice to have it just stay on the ground with a little popup saying your inventory is full
  • An ending/feeling of progression. Number go up is fun, but having something specific to work towards besides simply discovering things can do a lot of work.

Technical-wise, it appears to be broken on Firefox, the "play" button present on the initial deckbuilding screen is missing, and the cursor position desyncs pretty heavily when out of fullscreen, but on chrome it seems fine outside of the cursor desync.

Overall, very solid game for this short a timespan!

Developer

The cursor is something I will try and fix in the future. And I totally forgot about checking if your inventory was full when you pick up an item! I was supposed to add it but forgot! I might try and add progression in the future, my original plan was to add 4 levels, each with different bosses so that it felt like you actually made progress, but i didnt have time, but ill try and add a sense of progression in the future! Thanks for the wonderful review!

Wow that was a superb game! The combat was smooth and engaging, with lots of juicy animations and feedback. The item drops and level up added a huge depth to the game as well, great great work!

Nice fast pace game. Fight feels good and smooth, well done!

Really cool game ! I think using cards to build the dungeon is really interesting. Obviously it was just a game jam but in future it'd be cool to see more unique rooms. Loved the game though

Fantastic game! I want to come back to play this more later. I love the theme and art!

Cool game! The cursor in the game doesn't match my real cursor though so it was bit hard. Greate Job anyways!

the combat is a bit too slow pace for me

but i manage to clear first stage . great job btw

This has so much potential! Great work for a 48 hour jam. I did encounter some issues that have been mentioned, like the cursor. I also got stuck on the dungeon builder page for a while too! Otherwise, good job!

I like the concept, i love the art and the gameplay is fun!

I would love to see a more developed version of it

It's a really good game, but I had a problem with the mouse cursor, the ingame cursor was different than mine.

but I belive that this game has the potential for a full-release version.

That was a brilliant game, one of the best I played on jam. The visual is really great
