Really good idea and clean design!
Nice idea, constructing a big spaceship. But I think there should be more things to do, avoiding the projectiles for several minutes is a bit boring. Good work finishing the game!
Thanks for the feedback. The gameplay loop could certainly do with something extra to shake it up, I'll give it some thought.
Constructing a ship out of the parts is a really interesting idea. And I also quite like the visuals.
It is a little hard to control though, I wish modules would stick to the ship more easily. I also wish the turrets would shoot automatically, I remembered about pressing space only by the end of the game.
I think the optimal strategy is to build a long thin ship and just sit somewhere where there are no shooting enemies and tank the asteroids. I don’t think you can have enough damage to destroy them with turrets. I managed to win with this strategy after losing all the modules half-way through.
Overall, this is a solid entry. Good job!
Thanks for the feedback, you've given me a lot to think about.
What a great little game! I really enjoyed the modularity of it all, and being able to create a weird mega ship out of these floating parts. It was very satisfying to get the ship to get so much bigger and start clearing out whole sections of space. The first time I played, I thought there was no shooting because none of the components looked like a gun to me. I was expecting a module that had a barrel sticking out similar to the jets, and assumed that maybe there wasn't any shooting and I just had to survive. Otherwise super fun experience!
I'm glad you had fun playing the game.
Yes, the guns were designed as mini turrets, but now I think about it they could have been a little bigger to help with visual clarity. But with that said, side mounted cannons would be a good addition should I continue to work on the project in the future.
fun concept! would love to see it explored further
my two cents: attaching parts, taking out asteroids/enemies should feel a bit more impactful. There are also so many projectiles and asteroids on the screen and they do so little damage that it doesn't feel like you ever get punished for just eating all of them
Thanks for the feedback, you are right about it being a little too hectic for so little punishment.
In hindsight I'd be better off slowing enemy fire rate but increasing their damage, i.e. less to keep track off but more penalising when you do get hit. As it is right now, once you get big enough you can just turn your brain off and coast into the finish line.
Yoo, you were right its funny how we implemented the same idea, up to the directional thrusters and the camera zooming out as you collect parts !
Yep, the core ideas are so similar you'd think we were in cahoots. Weird how things work out.
This game feels pretty good! I had a lot of fun with it and I really like how satisfying the ship clicking together is. The pieces glowing as you get near, the bit of magnetic pull, and the sound effect is really nice. Since that's the main mechanic of the game I'm really glad its got some good feedback. I really like how the camera zooms out as well as you get bigger, and different parts giving you more movement control in different directors or additional weapons is awesome. This is a well scoped and executed jam idea with a cool take on the theme!
One piece of feedback I have is I wish there was a pause screen. I hit escape to try and pause and write in my notepad and it took me back into the main menu. Not a big problem, I had fun playing again!
Awesome job!
Edit: The music is super chill too. I left your main menu open while writing this and then forgot to close it until a few minutes after because I was enjoying the beat!
Thanks for playing my game and leaving such detailed feedback. I'll take note on the lack of a pause screen for future projects.
As you have surmised, the modular linkup system is where most of my time went throughout this jam, constantly iterating and tweaking until it felt good. So its really great to see it being appreciated.
As an interesting fact, the parts glowing when you get near them and not just when connected together was originally a bug. But since it added to the feel I kept it in.
As for the music, all I can say is I agree. I spent about an hour filtering through various royalty free tracks none feeling right for me. Then I found this one over on Soundcloud by Seth_Makes_Sounds and it just clicked. The best part is how the track evolves as it goes on, taking on a really chill and chipper feel as you get near the victory line. This was not timed on purpose but works so well.
