I love turn-based combat games like this one !

It took a bit of time but I did beat Mr 2017 Dab :D

If I had one nitpick, it would be that there are a bit too many opportunities to heal, making each fight last longer than necessary ... but other than that, this is a good game !

Developer

Hahaha nice. Glad you liked it!

Loved the weird goopy guy. He was a worthy opponent.

Loved this, creative concept, but the art was a little sloppy. Could consider choosing a better background which blends with the pixelated characters a little more. Overall fantastic and addictive game.

Developer(+1)

Thanks a lot! Yes I am not that good of an artist. I've created the dice myself. But thanks for the feedback. Glad you liked it!

Clean concept, well done in the time limit!

Hey,

I saw that you're working on becoming a game designer, here's all the things that I thought about your game :

-The screen of "how to play" could be a screenshot

-I thought 123 was 123 damages, got what was happening after 2 fights

-That's nice that we have different opponents

-The pokemon inspiration is obvious but nice :D

-Having written "click to roll" on the enemy turn is weird for the player

-It's lacking all the animation of fight

-Too long transition between the turns, I want to click to speed everything up

-The choices are a bit too obvious, you usually know in a seconde what to play

-Nice to have the choice to add more dice in your deck/strategy wise

-I'd like to know all my dices

That's my observations but you obviously can't do EVERYTHING during the jam, and when I play a game made by one developer, I'm not asking to not have anything weird happening, I just wrote everything, because you asked for it :p.

So when I voted I didn't focus on all the small bad things, we all know what it is to dev a game in 48h haha. It's a nice little game that you can be proud of!

Fun thing is, my game has a similar concept as yours (and it has some flaws too obv), I think it may interest you to test it, it's two completely different games, but the battle dice mechanism, and the enemy have the same tools as you.

Anyway, congrats!

Developer

Thanks for the feedback, i was aware of a few things. like the long enemy turn, the lack of animation.
Ye it was hard to tweek in 48hrs. i just wanted the mechanic right as i am not a genious in programming,so i am really proud that ive got a working gameloop.

Ill check yours out as well!

One more time just to be sure ^^, I was THIS exhaustive because you wanted some in depth feedback on the GMTK discord, you can be proud of what you did for sure!

I know and I really appreciate it. Its way better than "nice game" since I do it for fun, but also to really learn some game design!

So no "hard feelings" on the tips you gave me. It's really something i will take in advance in future Game Jams!

Solid game! I think it which dice you got was a bit confusing, I think it could've been nice to have a "deck" of the dice you have, so that you will always get each die at least once before seeing the same die twice. Also, many times, the decisions were uninteresting (124/0 vs 135/0, etc.) but I think that's fine as long as it doesn't happen too often. Great work!

Developer(+1)

Yes I didn't have to much pixels to work on haha. The dice holder was a bit wacky. But thanks for the feedback! I appreciate it. The turns are random, you have a deck and the game chooses 2 options. So I have no influence on that. :(

I enyojed the game very much. I also tried turn based combat in my jam game.

I generally really like turn based battle games so i may be biased but I thought it was a lot of fun

Too much depends on luck and too little on strategy.
I played it for about 15 minutes. I like the game.
Maybe a little extra animation wouldn't hurt.

Keep working on the game.
The game is worth developing further!

Developer(+1)

Yes that was kinda the point. Hard to balance the dice tbh. Wanted to create the strategy to choose to heal or deal damage. And then randomness in how much. But I see it's a bit to much about randomness. I'll take that feedback! Thanks!

The game lacks feedbacks and is a bit too much based on luck, but the idea of dice is nice, maybe it would have been interesting to have more choices in dice, or to have dice with particular effects to add some depth

Developer(+1)

Yes I noticed the visuals / feedback could be better. But first time taking on dice stuff. 48hrs to. But thanks for the feedback! I appreciate that!

Liked the idea!

I really like this idea, and the game was a lot of fun to play! One bit of feedback I have is that the enemy's turn takes a little bit too long. Good job :)

Developer

Thanks a lot! Yes it took a bit to long, but I wanted to show the player what was happening instead of blasting the turn over them. But this was a bit to much time haha. Appreciate the feedback buddy!

Nice, little dice game!

I like the game idea a lot! If this was a polished released game in the style of Slay The Spire etc. i think I would actually buy that and have a lot of fun with it. I'd wish fights would be a bit faster, but I loved the effects later enemies had, like the poison and I think you're doing a great job at showing what possiblilities you could have with this game if it had a bigger scope. I think you did really well explaining the game without much need for a tutorial. Great job!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the kind words!

Really fun, charming little RPG :-D. It could play a little faster is my only real negative feedback.

Developer

Thanks for playing! Yes it was hard to tweek it right. But I wanted to show the player what is happening, thats why i delayed it a bit. But ill take the feedback any time!
