This is my favorite so far! The music is great, and I love all the little character stories. I feel like the tower can be used as a metaphor for so many different aspects of our lives. The woman staying behind to care for the cactus instead of forging ahead to see what's next, and the person who stayed--satisfied with the tiny book case--only to miss a grand library only a few floors ahead.
Honestly, this a better narrative game than something like Dear Esther. The dice rolls really made it feel like you needed persistence to get to the end, but players will get worn down by their lower and lower changes of progression. It's brilliant, this is a true work of art.
Out of curiosity, has anyone made it past floor 58?
Glitched on floor 47!! You can't do this to me! Don't you know how much I've sacrificed?!
Good things:
- Really cool visuals, like that old style graphics
- Cool color coding (1 - player and things to interact, 2 - obstacles, 3 - bg details)
- Interesting narrative and overall interesting game)
- Really generates need to get to the 100-th floor
Bad things:
- Don't know if it was intended, but on lvl 40 I went off the level thrugh the no fence left area and end up walking behind the text :D
- On the level ~47 (I forgot what level was that but somewhere between 42 and 50 where there is a guy in a prison behind dice) I end up my journey because both enterance and exit dissappeared that was sad (I believe it happened because I first tried to save the guy and get small number, enterance dissappeared and exit became stairs down. And then I walked to the exit, rolled and got less than need, so game thought it should remove downstairs, so it removed it :D And I'm standing in the room with no enter and no exit :D)
Liked the character interactions. Had to eventually give up after keeping going up and down the same stairs. Game can get a bit boring if you keep getting unlucky with the RNG
Kind of an odd, unexpected experience that I did not expect to have in this jam. This is a very pleasant surprise though. Great game. :D
The pixel art is very atmospheric, I really like the vibes! It's really cool, have you go higher and higher to see what and who is waiting for you up there. Great job :)
I love the retro vibe, great game!
I really liked the vibe and was starting to think about what sort of floor I would like to stop at, but then I accidentally softlocked myself on the first floor with two doors (22, I think). If you fail the first door, then try the second door and fail that, all of the stairs disappear.
The style of the game is something that made me click on it. That's really good.
Turned out that the game is fun to play as well!
Great job!
I loved the symbolism. I can’t describe the feel I got from playing this game, but it was good. I stopped pretty early though, I don’t think I could enjoy the whole scale of the tower… but I loved everything I saw :)
Very unique game, my patience depleted at level 45 and also nice pixel art
very cool game!
i like the art style, the music seems to fit the vibe, the monologues are fun but i think there could be more variation in the use of RNG for other than opening doors, to make it more challenging.
congratulations to the team!
Pretty sure the game's already challenging enough to beat haha
This one grows on you the longer you play it, it's my favourite entry so far and it really manages to catch the essence of how I feel about dice-rolls and RNG in video games.
I decided to stay at the stained glass floor, I don't know why, I like the vibe there even tho my upstairs neighbor is an asshole
I like the presentation, but the gameplay isn't very interesting. It's a good idea though. Good job
Nice artwork, and intriguing, the gameplay is simple (if you can speak of any) but in this case that isn't really the important part I feel
maybe one of the coolest this jam. it may be statistically impossible to get to the top of the tower, but fortunately i have insane luck
There's something interesting going on in here with gambling, sunk cost fallacy, and rationality. At floor 25, I have met a character who admits they would like to go higher, but needs to take care of the cactus on that floor. Around this spot, doors are even appearing off the critical path towards the staircase. I feel like my decision to keep playing has become a part of the mechanic, attempting to whittle me down by attrition. Should there really be 100 floors, I know I won't see them. I'll find my place on a floor with good soil and make the best of it. Well done.
The artwork is beautiful. I admittedly spent way longer than I should have done poking the wizard hat by the exit. I expected it to do something but I only got " ....... .. .. .."
