Thanks for the feedback!

The game is actually completeable, by the way. Some of the gates can be opened by shooting nearby targets (with space) and once you collect one of the glowing orbs you need to bring it back to the door at the start withing the time limit :)

Thanks for the feedback! I haven't made a real-time game in years, so I'm still learning about how to do collisions nicely.

Really fun :) I felt compelled to see the whole thing!

The explosions lighting up the arena so you can see your goal is genius!

Nice pixel art and animations!

I think the gamplay loop could be enhanced by having a larger goal to work towards (wood for a raft?). It felt nice to play, but surviving for more days seemed easy on its own.

I really like the idea of dodging shadows and the atmosphere of your world, but there were a couple of gameplay things that held it back, in my opinion:

Some sort checkpointing would be hugely appreciated. I'm not saying you can't make the player go back to the start, but maybe let them keep the objectives they have gotten already?

The shadows were too erratic. The only good option was to avoid shadow areas completely. I think you could have some fun timing challenges and pattern observation if the shadows moved more consistently.

Otherwise, this is great :)

I was playing on PC with windows 10, I tried clicking the start button and pressing whatever I thought of on the keyboard to get past the start screen. Haven't had any issues with GMS2 before (I used it for my entry).

Had the same issue with a missing data file.

I couldn't get past the start screen. Not sure where you got up to during the jam so thought you might want to know.

This seems like a promising start, but it seemed very easy and I was pretty confused as to what some of the numbers meant...

I think your download is missing at least the UnityPlayer.dll file and a data file called Yowie's Tale_Data.

I like the concept here, but it was pretty easy for me to see without the torch. Maybe you could make the darkness effect even less transparent and make the flashlight's beam bigger?

Fun concept, but I'm not really sure having an overall time limit and resetting the whole game if you fail works well for a puzzle game (because puzzles are rarely fun to solve a second time). That said, I appreciated the added pressure.

The movement was unintuitive at first, but was pretty fun once I got the hang of it. I really like the growing darkness around you as you eat more light :)

I was so confused by the second room(?), the one with 10 boxes. I got them all onto the switches, but then couldn't figure out how to move on...

I really liked the atmosphere you created with the lighting and sound, though.

Really nice art direction and the game works well. Congrats!

I really liked the atmosphere and the different rooms, but I could get very far due to the enemy/just getting disoriented.

My game had a similar concept (but 2D), so it was interesting to see a 3D horror take on the idea.

I maybe found a small bug? Sometimes I couldn't continue to rotate the camera with the mouse, like I had reached the bounds of the screen. This was in full screen on firefox, if that helps.

I really liked this! Such a great idea and executed well :)

It would be nice to have the rules more clearly displayed and to let the player know which rules have changed (but this is great for a jam version).

Also, it would be good to know which rule I broke when I die. I was never sure if I had forgotten a rule, misunderstood it or if the game was bugged!

(1 edit)

The pixel art is so cute! But I was a little puzzled by everything even after reading the instructions. I didn't know how I could keep my pigs alive longer next time...

Edit: Forgot to mention: your farmer being the light is a great idea!

Pretty fun, but tricky!

I would be nice to have some indication of where the next laser will appear, since moving is already a challenge!

This is a cool idea! It would be fun to have something to do once you possess them :)

I think the atmosphere could be improved by making the space a bit darker and suggesting what location you are in (a house? a research facility?). It would also be nice to have some indication of when your hide is ready again :)

Such a cute idea! I enjoyed the rhythm aspect while waiting for the next upgrade :)

I liked the atmosphere created by the lighting and the chill music :)

It might have been fun if the cows were a little more reactive. I noticed them moving away a little bit, but maybe they could be spooked by your light, too?

I haven't given a rating because it didn't work for me. Just a black screen after the Unity loading bar.

Your game had a really similar concept to mine, so it was interesting to see a different execution!

The pixel art is gorgeous. I'd be happy with it for a commercial game let alone a jam.

I think the coins were too difficult to find for the benefit they give. Maybe a permanent bonus would make them more satisfying? Another idea would be to make the coins glow so that they're easier to find when you don't have a coin.

I had so much fun with this! Really simple and enjoyable.

It started a little slow, though, and I couldn't see much impact from the damage over time upgrade.

This is great for a first jam!

I really liked the speed up effects :) It's probably worth putting a flashing light warning in though (since some people can get seizures from them).

I really liked the presentation and I had fun, but I was a little confused about the speed gates. I thought I had to exceed the listed speed, but the final level completed when I was still under on one of the gates?

Haha, very cute and the tunes were great! I tried to hide in a hole and really did get blocked in :)

Looks really cool! I couldn't figure out the attack timing on spiders to get very far, though...

That was absolutely frantic and quite fun. I could see this working really well if you slowed it down a little and gave the player different bridge pieces (like a straight piece, corner, T-junction) so that you have to think about how to build a way forward while panicking. The gaps could have obstacles like rocks that you have to build around.

Awesome work for 4 hours! I didn't understand why it was spooky and had a time limit, but the you achieved a good atmosphere in a block pushing game :)

It certainly evoked the feeling of being trapped :)

I promise I will never use Unity3D again :p

This game looks and sounds so good! I couldn't get past the first wave, though. It felt like too many enemies spawned (around 15?) and there was no way I could kill them before they destroyed the beanstalk. Also, tiny bug: when the game restarts the beanstalk's health is not quite at full.

Such a cool physics puzzler. I felt like the early level could have had a bit more room for error, but I might just be bad at this type of game!

Thanks for the feedback! I'm one of those people who like to figure out a game when first playing, so I definitely lean that way when making games. Still trying to find the balance where players feel like they know enough at the start not to get scared off :)

Thanks for playing! I definitely agree that this sort of game needs a lot of feedback so the player knows why things are happening and what they can do.

I'll have to check out "Tortured Tower" :)

Cute little game, the random level generation worked well. Sometimes when you hold space after a ground pound your character charges up but doesn't launch up at all.

I like the style! Walking to see the rest of a text box was interesting as well. I think you could use it to surprise the player with what's at the end of it or to lead them to particular areas.

Some of the text was hard (or impossible to read against the background, though.

I like the colour palette and the idea!

I had a little trouble figuring out when it was safe underneath objects. Maybe giving the player a tiny amount of time in the sun before they die could smooth the experience out a bit?

Cute little game!

Ran into a bug when going through a door at the same time as dying. It messed up the UI and controls!
