Enjoyed the game a lot! You HP pickup placement is pretty forgiving for casual players in general. The mechanic is well implemented, with good visual and audio cue to help players noticing the change in weapon. The art and audio is also very good!

I'm glad you enjoyed! I always try and make sure that my jam games aren't too difficult since most people want to play more than one game, which is why I used so many health packs. Maybe I'll make it more challenging in an update after the jam, but I'm glad you enjoyed anyway!

Fun game, enjoyed the mechanics =)

I picked up this game and with the succinct tutorial level immediately understood the mechanics, which were then gracefully introduced as I picked up more guns to use. I do wish the gameplay was more noticeably different between some of the weapons (it felt like the main difference was the bullet rate, besides the shotgun and the rocket launcher). However, I liked how there were clear level designs and an end goal. The enemies were approachable once you learn their patterns and I enjoyed prowling through them with the close-ranged shotgun or sniping them with the minigun.

Developer

Thanks for playing. I'm really glad you enjoyed! I also think that some of the weapons could have been more different from each other, but in such a short jam, implementing unique mechanics isn't really feasible due to the time constraints. I'm glad you enjoyed anyway, and really appreciate your feedback.

Great game! love the music and gun/enemy variety

Quite easy and simple to play. This year theme led to many games being a clunky mess (mine included) but this one is super intuitive. I love your approach of introducing new weapons into the game as well, slow and steady. The arts could use a tiny bit of improvement, but aside from that, solid game! Good work!

Developer

Thanks for your feedback. I agree that the art is a bit simple, but that also means that it is easy to work with which is useful for such a short jam.

Quite a fun game you made there! It does feel like the pistol is just straight up one of the better weapons because you can fire as fast as you want and still have long range, but it was fun to traverse the dungeons and see what was around the corner. Well done!

Developer(+1)

yeah I agree, I think the balancing of the weapons is a bit off which is something I’m going to address in an update after the jam is done.

Glad you enjoyed anyway though!

A really enjoyable game.

I believe having a scoring system would make your game even better.

Developer

Yes, I agree!

Solid entry! The variety of weapons was great :D I played on stream over on twitch if you want to find my playthru on VOD: https://itch.io/jam/gmtk-jam-2022/rate/1623224

Developer

Thank you for playing on stream, I really enjoyed seeing your reaction to the game! I also feel like some of the weapons are unbalanced, the smg is way too good and the rocket launcher and AR are under powered, but I didn’t have time to do enough play testing to find these issues and fix them :/.

Glad you had fun anyway!

both unique and fun. I really enjoyed this

neat take on the theme, i did manage to dash out of the walls at one point, still had a fun time tho :)

Developer(+1)

No, I thought I’d managed to fix that glitch! Glad you still had fun tho

Submitted(+1)

cool mechanic with the random weapon rolls. the movement is a bit slow for my taste, but it was still fun!

Developer

Maybe a run would have been good… glad you like enjoyed anyway

Super nice! Loved the gun roll mechanics and the lighting is really good

Submitted(+1)

Fun game! Like the idea of the guns changing randomly

I see you're a fellow kenny 1bit appreciator.

Developer(+1)

Yes! I love their art so much, really useful in jams I think

For a jam with more time or if I was working with a team I might use a fancier option, or make custom art. As a placeholder, or when time is a major limitation, having something quick and easy to work with is really great.

Loved the shooter aspect! I really enjoyed the variety of weapons and difficulty curve. Somehow I managed to have a door close infront of me rather than behind me, but it wasn't an issue as the enemies pathfinded to me anyway. The music and sfx brought me back to my childhood watching lab rats on disney.

Overall, stupendous game!

Developer

Thanks for playing, I'm glad you enjoyed. I guess there were some bugs I couldn't get... glad it didn't affect your experience too much! I'm glad you thought the difficulty was good, I was worried I made it too hard!

Good use of the Kenny 1-bit art. I love that art pack!

Overall a solid game, swapping weapons feels fun as they all have some sort of use to them. I was always hunting for the new weapons.

The one thing I did notice was the menus don't completely cover the screen. With some like the game over menu it looks intentional but the main menu it looks off.

If you wanted to improve I suggest adding a countdown when the weapon switches to give the player a bit more planning time.

Overall good game!

Developer

Thanks for the feedback! For the main menu, not covering the whole screen was intentional so you could see the title at the bottom, but looking back on it, I see your point of view and I think a more traditional menu might have been better.

I was planning on including secrets where you could unlock new weapons early, but with the time constraints, it wasn't possible, but I'm glad you had fun searching anyway.

I was also planning on including a countdown next to the dice, but again, time didn't allow it

either way, I appreciate your criticism and I'm glad you enjoyed!

The game is good, but i got stuck inside a wall in 10 seconds of gameplay

Developer

Oh no! I didn’t run into this bug when play testing :/. Hopefully you could reload the page and still play!

Submitted(+1)

This is a fun game, the only thing I'd add is some visual indication of reload. Its so funny I can click a pistol faster then the assault rifle. I saw someone else's comment and made it to the rocket launcher.

Developer

by reload, do you mean the cooldown before you can shoot again? I think not including that was an oversight tbh. As for the assault rifle shooting slower… I don’t have a large knowledge of guns being from the Uk so I’m not sure what gun would actually shoot faster lol. Either way, I’m glad you enjoyed the game.

Submitted(+1)

Yes that is what I mean!

Its ok I'm from Canada too. Maybe its because the pistol doesn't have any cooldown? So it is as fast as you can move your finger 💀

Submitted(+1)

I really like the graphics, and it's so easy to pick up! Very well done!!

Developer

Thanks for playing!

Nice take on the theme ! I also liked the mash-up between classic dungeon crawling universe and... guns!

Developer

Thanks, I’m glad you enjoyed!
