A very fun, original and peaceful entry. I can’t even think how difficult it must’ve been to get the MIDI files to work in this short time frame.

Admittedly, some pieces were just too hard for me to be good at, I also would’ve liked a clearer indicator of whether I hit or missed a note.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the review!

Frankly speaking this piece is one of the most difficult pieces on a real violin and I mapped 1:1 for the whole rhythm (if you disregard multiple notes that played at the same time).

I was initially planning for some easier pieces but I faced some technical issues which forced me to focus only in one piece, regrettably.

Cool concept! I really liked how it looked and it could be made into a really nice game, but the controls are lacking in feedback and seem a bit tricky to work out. Even when I know what I'm doing from reading the other comments, I'm still not exactly sure 'where' my mouse cursor is :D

Maybe adding an indicator to the side of the screen that shows the relative mouse position, like a 'joystick' indicator or something? Just something that responds to the mouse and shows that I am really playing the game 😅😅😅

Don't be discouraged by this problem though, I think this is really a very interesting design and I'd love to play a more refined version some day.

Thanks for submitting!

Thanks for liking the game!

Your suggestion of showing the current control on screen really helped me to clarify the thoughts of many people here including mine! People were complaining that they don't have enough feedback which I didn't understand well but now I finally know how to improve. Really thank you for the suggestion of the joystick indicator!

I will definitely expand the game if it gains interest from many players. I personally enjoying playing rhythm game as well.

This game looks and sounds absolutely lovely!

Unfortunately, I couldn’t figure out how to play it at all. Not sure if it had anything to do with me playing it on Linux, or not, but I got to the notes playing and… well… it didn’t feel like my mouse was doing anything at all! I even picked my mouse up as the game was playing and still managed to get through the songs seemingly with a 50/50 score.

I’m a little disheartened too because I do enjoy rhythm games, I’m just sorry I was unable to really play yours.

Thanks for reviewing my game and unfortunately I could not join your stream as it was 4am in my timezone.

There are a lot of nuances in the game mechanism as I am still trying to invent some new control schemes. Basically the mouse will only steer the directions and to encourage people who are not familiar with rhythm game to play I actually make it to partially automatically progress.

I would say do not worry about it too much as it is just a prototype. My main goal is still to let the players to enjoy the game! (Just like how you commented my GWJ#32 submission - Lofi-7.)

Actually one of the most fun games I have played so far.

Developer

Thanks for reviewing and streaming the game!

The game definitely needs a lot of touch-ups but my main objective is to let the player experience something new and to encourage game makers to be creative and innovative.

Another very unique entry! I would have liked for the camera to be a bit more zoomed out; as it is, you have very little time to react to the notes before they are played.

Developer

Thanks for reviewing the game!

I agree that zooming out is a good suggestion but I would like the player to be more focus on the current notes and have some surprises, haha. This is the common problem with most of the rhythm games that you cannot anticipate coming notes too far away and normally the same track has to be played several times to familiarise the rhythm and movement/gestures.

Submitted

While I understand what is happening, I can never really tell if my mouse movement is good or not because of no indicator for the mouse itself. Also problematic is that because of the narrow screen, you often can't anticipate change well because nodes are hidden outside the screen. Definitely not a bad game but with a little more QoL it could be really great!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for reviewing the game!

The red dot is actually the indicator of your mouse. If your mouse movement is in-sync, the red dot will be covered by the cyan dot.

If you really want to realize it you can capture your own gameplay, watch the replay and notice the red dot.

I'm confused. It looks really cool but I'm not sure I'm doing anything.

Developer

Thanks for trying the game!

If you see that the combo count is increasing and the red dot is hidden then you are doing something correct!

Submitted

The game plays itself? Don't know if this is a bug or I'm missing something but once the music starts my key presses don't seem to do anything, it just goes through the track and misses some and hits some

Developer

The primary inputs are by just moving the mouse. The keys are for accessibility use only.
If you see a red dot popping out that means you are moving wrongly, too fast or too slow.

Well, this was definitely an interesting game, I'm a huge fan of clicky and rhythm games, so i got a bit carried away with this one...Really nice gameplay, but confusing at first.

Now, i think a found a weird bug...? Basically, after doing my second run, the ball just went somewhere into space and started bouncing like with the music, but this time there was no music, no dots to bounce on, nothing and I reached like 170-200 points...

Developer

Thanks for trying and testing the game!
I am aware of the bugs where the dot will go wild and jump out of the base to play by itself, haha!
For the technical side I am not pre scripting the travelling path of the dots so I cannot avoid this problem entirely without revamping the synchronization logic.

Meanwhile you may try to restart from the pause menu(ESC) to ask it to come back to the base. Don't consecutively restart without starting a song or else you will hear it complaining during the song play! (another funny bug)

Okay, I had to start playing jam games with this one, and it didn't disappoint. Couldn't do better combo than 44...not sure what the best one is actually! Anyways, great and original, with a touch of inscrutable, as always! :D

Developer

Thanks for following my musical gam jam series as always!
I am a bit overwhelmed with my first rhythm game but I hope the overall gaming experience is good (the cyan dot is auto-playing for you anyway!).

Definitely original! But really confunsing to me at least, I tried to get the hang of it even reading the controls. The few first times around I miss everything... then at the forth time I got an A straight up... and then I failed miserably again. I don't know if its just me that I'm not used to this type of rythm game, or if its just need a bit more explanation or a tutorial. Still really interesting! Interesting choice for the music and the implementation of it's rythm with the visuals is perfect

Developer

Thank you for trying the game out!
TL;DR: if you see the red dot, it is out of sync.

If you are new to rhythm game in general I can provide some tips to you here:
1) It is all about synchronization between visual and audio components. Try to utilize the visual feedback (in this case if you see a red dot which means it is out-of-sync).
2) There will unavoidably some very brief delay between you hand movement and the visual/audio feedback(this is even true for a real string musical instrument). Try to experiment by moving ahead of audio or a little bit later or to calibrate the syncrhonization of your hand movement and the game until you don't see much red dots appearing. An advanced rhythm game will have the capability to calibrate the delay in the game settings.

Sorry that I don't really have the time to implement the in-game tutorial component. I would prioritize this next time during my game jam.
