Great use of sound and caustics to sell the underwater setting! I had an issue figuring out the click-mouse-to-look control at first. After that, it was quite pleasant :-) Enough that the bit of back-and-forth travel didn't deter me from finishing. Thanks for this!

Developer

Thank you for completing the game! Glad that you found it pleasant and enjoyed the sound and caustics. :)

I thought this game was quite charming. The graphics, while simple, definitely conveyed the feeling of being under water and the swimming mechanics were smooth.

A couple small observations… I think if the cliff faces had a little more roughness/texture to them, they would have helped the environment pop just that little extra.

The other small thing was, while the swimming mechanics were good, there were a number of times I wisher for a “swim up” and “swim down” key… Going up and down based of facing is good and should still be there, but having a little vertical strafing as well as horizontal would have made me feel even more comfortable with the navigation.

Over all, great work, in my opinion!!

Thank you so much! It was fun watching you play it on stream. I completely agree with the cliff feedback as well as the dedicated swim up and swim down buttons. There was a lot more I wanted to do with the art, including making each of the areas more unique, but I lost the first weekend to a vacation, and was crunched for time until about the last 10 minutes. Still, I am pleased with the final result, and glad to see people are enjoying it. :)

The exploration is pretty fun and relaxing, tho I did get lost trying to find the last piece for a pretty long time, and after a while having to go from the further areas back to the mural got somewhat tiring. I really like the general art style, especially the bubbles and the caustics on the environments, the player model and animations were just a little bit janky but they still had a lot of charm. The music was also really relaxing. Good game!

Thank you so much! I also found going back and forth tiring, especially while testing. I wanted to get at least one wildcard done, but having a limited inventory is pretty tedious. My original goal was to have more variety in the different areas so that visiting them would feel more unique and interesting, but making all of that art takes time!

Thanks for calling out the bubbles and caustics! I was super pleased with those. The mermaid model could have been way better! Its really my third attempt at creating a humanoid model. Its a challenge!

Thank you! I am glad you found it relaxing. :)

The controls ironically look natural to me because it feels like underwater... I just use W and swim with mouse and it works fine. Luckily the area is not too large so I am able to guess where is the mural area ^^

Developer

Thank you for completing the game! Mouse/keyboard is my primary way of playing games so its super natural to me too, but also when I'm making these game jam games, I'm playing them constantly,  so I have a hard time knowing how others will take to the controls!

I really like the underwater visuals, the refraction pattern on the surfaces is great. Amazing that it can run so well in the browser too! I managed to collect the cog and assemble it, but didn't go much further as it felt like the process was going to be repeated. Hopefully I didn't miss out on any content. It was an nice change to have an underwater game where not everything is constantly trying to kill player! It was peaceful to play, thanks for the submission. :)

Developer

Thank you for playing! You didn't miss much, just a little end animation and song with a win screen. :) I lost the entire first weekend due to a vacation, so I wanted to make the gameplay simple, but it ended up being a little repetitive. I'm glad people are getting the peaceful/relaxing vibes though. I was going for that!

Also thanks for mentioning the refraction pattern. I was super proud of that caustics shader! There are great ones available for GLES3, but they don't work in GLES2 so I had to come up with one that worked. Really pleased with the result.

"Caustics", that was the word I was looking for!

Well done on getting it nice in GLES2. I had similar issues with bloom/glow but managed to hack something out!

Game is pretty relaxing although the controls are a bit clunky

This game has a good potential, the biggest downside for me was the controls, it feels clunky to move up and down by looking and waiting for it to slowly drift up. Otherwise, the concept is cool and the shaders are super beautiful!

Developer(+1)

Thank you for trying the game! Yeah the controls are a bit clunky.  Its a little mouse heavy to play. Using anything other than W and aiming just feels too slow. Would have loved to take the time to further tweak them ,but it was a scramble at the end! Thanks for the kind words on the shaders! Was very pleased how those turned out. :)
