Really ambitious entry!! And very very fun! I mostly went with overwhelming the enemy with the cheapest unit and praying that they don't die all at once.
Obviously the only major complaint would be that your units don't avoid obstacles, but that wasn't totally bad, it actually added a micro management element that made it more interesting!
I managed to beat the last stand (actually there was a building still standing, but the victory screen appeared) then the last stand begun again, was that supposed to happen? I still considered that as a win! :).
The sound was great, and the music gave it an awesome atmosphere.
Great game and surprisingly solid execution considering the complexity and the time frame!
dang great job, wasn't supposed to happen, but I never beat it 🤣
Ooh, this is really well made. I like it. Nice art and I loved the music. Imma request a link to it if possible please.
I've enjoyed what I've played, kinda want to see more. Good job
Wow, awesome job! An RTS is definitely not the first thing for me to take of for a game jam but you’ve created a wonderful submission here! The tutorial was also very nicely integrated. Good music and sound effects too!
thank you so much, glad you liked it!
So cool! The RTS aspect is well represented, the tutorial works wonders and the color choice is fitting. Fun game on top of that. Great work!
thanks a ton, I'm glad you enjoyed it !
Wow, RTS.
Cool, reminds me dune on Sega Mega drive.
Nice setting.
Already pointed on music.
Tutorial is clear and controls are intuitive.
Well done!
This is really cool! An RTS is definitely a bold choice for a game jam given the time constraints, but I think you managed to pull off enough to make this a solid little experience. I really like the idea of specifying the different parts of the unit you want to build rather than just picking from a list of units. I could see a really cool system coming out of that where you focus on different attributes for your workers/attackers/etc based on the level and enemies.
I see someone else already pointed out the AudioStream2D issue. On the subject of audio though, I wish there were a bit more sfx going on throughout the game. It feels kind of empty, and then there's suddenly a bunch of gunshots. The first time I attacked an enemy it jump scared me lol.
Overally, great job!
haha sorry about the jump scare. Glad you enjoyed it!
I just found an old purchase from humble bundle that was literally "Robot vocals for an RTS or shooter. Oh well ..
Hey, nice starcraft vibes here!
I like the thing with selecting transportation for the robot. Very very long ago I thought there must be some RTS that has just regular guys be produced, and then you equip them manually with bow/sword. This has some of that :)
Some things i would have loved:
The music should not be a 2d thing! There is the AudioStream2d component, and the AudioStream component. The latter should be used for music!
If scrolling with mouse, then fullscreen would have been much better.
Also, clicking single units would have made wonders for my "split" with the workers.
Rally points would have been good too. Level 3 got really hard. Some way to rally new robots would have helped.
I think you should look at nav mesh, or its 2d counterpart. The robots did not find good paths, so I suspect you rolled your own when there is a very competent system for just that in godot.
Nice submission, and fun to see some RTS!
thanks, glad you liked it.
I originally did a homemade navigation, then scrapped it and went with navagent2d. For whatever reason that completely bugged out the HTML5 release. Who knows. I tried to get NavigationAgent2D implemented on the last day, but it never seemed much better than the one I had originally built. Probably some settings I needed to tweek.
I was working on independent unit selection, and double click to select all of the same type of units, but could not get the "mouse entered" signal on my units. Like no idea what UI element was preventing it, but after an hour or so struggling with it I moved on to get a release out.
Didnt even notice the sound, thanks for letting me know.
Yeah when I got to play test it was much easier scrolling with wasd than with the mouse.
Rally points / setting a location for units to go to from the building was cut due to time. Will put them in if I ever work more on it. Also cut was repairing units and buildings, building new buildings, power plants (ended up just using them for decoration) and heat sinks (was going to have a temperature system where you built heat while building units, and had to build structures that would bleed off the heat so you could keep building.. idk)
I will probably pick this back up after a while (hopefully fix the HTML5 bug so it's not a pain to play). But thanks for the input, and thanks for playing!
Oh man, I sat maybe an hour or two struggling with the damn fade-to-black canvas stealing mouse input in menu. In the end I found a post online about debugger -> misc. There it says which widget got the input. Very handy
Sorry to hear about webgl build not working as in editor. I had some issues with 3d navigation until i added lots of margin. Then things hopefully(?) stopped getting stuck everywhere.
Omg I read something about that a while back and then completely blanked on it! Totally would have helped!
I liked the game a lot. Even though it was short and limited, I still enjoyed it. You should really look into updating this and making it a full game. I love the way you can guide each robot differently into battle and come up with numerous different strategies.
Thanks! glad you liked it. toying with the idea of doing an updated release after the jam.
Well, if you do decide to doing updates after the jam, I sure will play a lot more of this. Even this in its simple form is very fun to play.
Could not get the units to move. They would face the direction of my right click but would not walk. . Played on firefox.
yeah it's a glitch with the NavigationAgent2D node in HTML5. I couldn't get the updated version uploaded before the deadline. Download the game and it should work for you.
