fun game! the idea is pretty good and fits the theme very well, the music matches the vibe too. Its especially fun to watch the matches where one side just barely wins. I wonder, is there an end or a limit to the amount of units?
Thanks for playing and glad you enjoyed it. The only limitation will be the computer as too many units are added for it handle.
I wonder if something like a button when pressed or toggled that could make the speed go a bit faster during the battle may help, especially during the very early stages of each battle. Since it may get repetitive to see it after a while.
Even with this, I really liked this game a lot, it's really interesting - great jon on the submission!
Thanks for playing, agreed I would have liked to add a time control to the battle, fast forward in particular.
Pretty interesting, I like how each troop has very distinct features, the elves are my favorites as it would be easy to just make them shoot the closest enemy but the detail of having them match the height level is so cool. Good music aswell and the grandparent names with their position on the screen are another neat details.
Thanks for playing and glad you liked the characters, originally was planning for more but less diverse , but once I created the ninja animations - I decided to make more varied ones and think it paid off. Music credits go to Andreas & JoJo of TSEC - I don't think I ever dare to make my own music, tried before and stopped...
Glad you noticed the names/positions, funny fact I had east and west on the wrong side half way through my programming before I realized I had switched them, the variables names are still wrong ;)
Amazing, way more fun than I was expecting. I love that the 2 grandpas will just go back and forth forever, and the story just gets wilder and wilder. Really interesting take on the prompt!
Thanks for playing and glad you liked the silly back and forth
I LOVE it. It's like TABS but with narration. The simple artstyle also works very well. The rivalry between the two grandpas and their names remind me of the two old men in TF2 lore, and i love the stupidity of it.
Really the concept is so simple but smart, the back and forth ensure interesting battle while keeping it balanced. I even got surprises with unexpected results sometimes. I got the West to win 5 or 6 battles one after another!
Really creative units too, and great animations! Would love to see more units added
It gave me so many ideas of things to code and mix with procedural generation :)
Thanks for playing an glad you liked it, had to look up TABS, looks fun though. Haven't played TF2 (team fortress 2, I assume) played the original one a tiny bit, played more Doom/Quake/HL/counterstrike/Unreal Tournament, but glad you liked the silly back and forth.
Always happy to inspire others, good luck, looking forward to playing your next submissions.
You pulled of the two color pallet competently.
There is also some repeatability in this sandbox-like experience.
I love games where your people/units are autonomous and you just watch them doing their job.
Glad you liked it, I love trying to find a way to incorporate the theme and all the wildcards together and this idea just bubbled up.
Huge fan of the style you're going for with this. Definitely feels like something I'd play during the MS-DOS days. The art style is extremely minimalist but, is able to depict everything so well! (also that main theme is very catchy)
One suggestion I'd make for a game like this is time controls like pause, play and fast forward just for situations where its a couple archers facing their inevitable doom against a giant army and you can kinda guess the outcome already.
Amazing job with this though, I really enjoyed it!
Thanks for playing and glad you liked the game, yes I was going for a classic/retro look, maybe even predating DOS... Commadore maybe :p
Thanks for the suggestion, I was thinking about adding fast-forward button but didn't get time to add it, I also did do a time rewinding in my Chapter 3 game so have experience doing that but have to be careful with the recording and saving all the necessary information.
Thanks again
