Some nice wood chopping :-)

GAMEPLAY
The concept is solid, and chopping wood provided fun gameplay. It would be interesting to see this expanded with more activities and perhaps humorous consequences for incorrect actions, like hitting a stone.

ART STYLE / VISUALS
The visuals were okay, supporting the game's simple and straightforward approach. The animation for chopping wood was effectively and amusingly executed.

AUDIO / SOUND DESIGN
The sound design was appropriate, matching the activities and the environmental setting of the game.

INNOVATION
Not really applicable

THEME
The theme of isolation was only lightly touched upon, with potential for deeper integration in further developments of the game.

Good little game effort 💪

Played and rated!

I enjoyed the visual style of the cabin. Felt like it could be part of a full-fledge game!
The game had a cozy feeling it was nice.

The night got a bit too dark it was hard to see anything at night. I did like the idea of having the light inside the cabin guide you to it, but it wasn't lit up properly I think.
The chopping mechanic didn't work as you intended I think, but once I got the hang of it it got easier.

Overall enjoyed the small experience of the game good work 😄

Would appreciate if you check out and rate our game as well:

Really liked the game, I wanted to chop every single tree. The mechaninc was so satisfying. I missed some end cinematic or something like that to reward the player for chopping everything.

It was a nice immersive experience. I found myself wanting to interact with the items in my cabin just cause I got caught up in the idea of living in this cabin in the middle of nowhere.
I like the axe mechanic, though in practice the more I tried to make a big swing, the less % I got and eventually just found the "sweet spot" which unfortunately required minimal swinging movement.

Developer(+1)

Yeah my intended way was to swing, but it works depending on how long the animation has run so you can "cheese it" but im fine with that so players dont tire their wrist. Im glad you like the cabin decor I wanted to add one more item but had to finish the game...

Totally fair, Game Jams are a fantastic challenge that require us to ultimately "chop" those extra features we would have liked. Still, you built a great feeling experience with so few elements, that is hard to do well. Great job!

The sound design is really good and well implemented!

The game isnt really finished, yet I love it. The ambiance is really immersive. Like its impressive lol. The game feels polished. I just know its not finished because once I had cut all the trees, it just said Theres nothing left and took me to the menu. Other than that, really good game

Developer

Thanks, that actually the ending lol but I guess its a bit blant as I did it on the last day

The ideia was nice, simple and fun game, but i didn't understand which tree i should cut, and when it comes the night, i can't see anything, and i got a little lost! But cool SFX!

Developer

Thank you, you can cut any tree you want, I was going to model an old lanter an placed outside to guide the player but I ran out of time and forget to atleast move the light a little

At first, I didn't understand how to swing the axe correctly since you move the camera in your gif. Then I figured out you can just stay still and you just need to aim correctly. Otherwise, it's simple but fun. It's very satisfying to see these particle effects when you hit the tree at the right spot :)

Developer

Thanks, my intended way is to move the camera, but if you aim generally lower on the tree the animation would play more and so increasing the %

I like the message of the game and I was able to fell all trees within three days, although I gotta be honest I didn't understand the percentage that was displayed in correlation to where I hit the tree. But nevertheless I made it to the end and it was pretty fun.

Developer

Thank you, its hard to explain but its not where you hit the tree but how much you swing the axe.

Preface

The rating is based on my personal preferences alone. Generally, I'm pretty open to new experiences, but I prefer games where lots of things happen. I tend to be a harsh critic.

I have finished the game.

Gameplay/Fun

Chopping down trees is fun, I like the axe swing mechanic, but why can't I chop down my own house? There is little incentive to continue. Also, "there is nothing left"!? I only chopped down 6 trees!

Art Style/Visuals

They're great. The colors look good, the models look good, the art style is consistent. The only thing I can complain about is that the land doesn't expand further, and it just looks... eh.

Audio/Sound

There is nothing to complain about. The spatial sound design really makes you feel like you're in the woods.

Innovation

The concept is quite original. I never played a first-person lumberjack simulator before.

Theme

You're alone in the woods, isolated from society. The audio compliments that well.

Verdict: Great game.

RATING IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE.

Developer

Thanks, I wanted the game to be short as the main mechanic gets repetitive but still make it feel like a "dense" forest, as the inital trees would take too much time to chop I decided do add a system that eliminates half the trees each night.

I loved the ax mechanics, short and fun learning curve. Graphics that fit well into view very quickly. Maybe something short, you could have experimented a lot with this mechanic and the universe.

It was a little unclear the idea that swinging your mouse helped the % go up - when do you swing it? Maybe should’ve watched your gif I guess 👀 I did finally realized if you just aim right and stand the right distance you can get a really high % without moving your mouse around.

Was hoping there’d be something cool for staying up late at night, oh well. I like the implied futility of the clearcutting, like “cool… why’d you do that?” lol

Developer

Thanks, I wanted to add the gif to the tutorial but godot doesnt support gif and the videoplayer is said to run poorly in the web, I tried to explain it with text but im not very good at it.

In terms of tree chopping mechanics, this game is a 10/10. I be chopping hella trees fr.
