It is the final seconds ticking on the clock for our home planet.

Story / Context
Set 5 billion years into the future, "The Final Farewell" explores the end of Earth's life as the Sun swells into a red giant. Humanity's final spacecraft prepares to embark on a journey beyond its cradle, leaving behind the planet that once nurtured civilization.

Proof of Real-Time Rendering
You can use the arrow keys to move/rotate the camera. It should go back after that in the cutscene, but you can also watch it again without pressing :-)

I love themes involving space, and this one was no exception. I absolutely loved the atmosphere and the colors used in the scenery, truly beautiful!

The scene does a great job showcasing the elements that come together to create the story. The camera work and music create a harmony that immerses you in what’s happening

I really wish I could have experienced it through the executable project, but unfortunately, my machine can’t handle something so heavy (it would probably explode haha). Great work with the MP4 format!

One small suggestion I thought of that could add more impact and tension is a zoom-in on the sun moments before the explosion, showing viewers that something abnormal is happening and a catastrophe is imminent

In conclusion, a fantastic scene! I can’t help but wonder what humanity’s fate would be with scarce resources while searching for a habitable planet, no guarantees of a tomorrow (if it even exists, now that the sun is gone)

Developer

Thank you for the feedback and kind words 😊.

Nice to see a fellow space story enthousiast and glad you got and liked the atmosphere 😊!

Next time I will try to optimize the HDRP cutscene better or use URP to make it visible to lesser computer power. I did a little bit of culling and such, but I needed to have done more or add settings or so. Luckily I added the MP4 😅

Good tip for the extra zoom-in on the sun. That would have made it more clear indeed I think also.

That wondering of what that fate would be and how it would turn out...would maybe be a nice game concept for a future game... 😊

Thanks again and I am happy you enjoyed the scenery!

I like sci-fi very much and also the topic :)

Its interesting how the camera is moving, music is epic :D

Submitted(+1)

for the music--- maybe it could be a bit tension building in the beginning and then change its tone to the one u have. :D

Developer

Good tip indeed for next cutscene(s) to build up the tension with the music more than this had...check 🙂✅

Developer

Interesting in strange 😅 or that it is not so smooth (it is indeed not, but no time left to optimize...) or really interesting 😅?

Submitted(+1)

I thought it was intentional… as in…. It felt as if we are flying through Space. Its totally interesting! But I agree that maybe it could be Smoother and take more time.

Developer

That's thankfully the good interesting 🙂!
It is not perfect indeed, but I am glad you liked it a bit

you could underline the movement with more  Sound to make it seem more intentional … but well… We wanted to do more Sounds as well and could not in the end because of the missing time .

Developer

I know that feeling of not having enough time all too well...
With every game jam for that matter 😉

Sound can be very powerful indeed for a good scene when done well. I will certainly take into account for next cutscenes and games.

Yes! If u ever need music or Sounds feel free to message me! :D

I probably will need in the future.. For one of my games... I will keep you in mind 😁!!

This was like the beginning of an epic space odyssey and the visuals are really clear, though you might look into optimizing more if possible. My GPU was 100% :O

Edit: Just recalled I forgot to mention that the cool star logo you use for the game file is invisible on my light themed computer. A darker outline or making the whole star a medium shade could make it better visible on both light an dark themes.

Yes, I know 😅😅...!

First time using Unity 6 and HDRP. I thought that would be good for the visuals.
It is good for the visual/lighting etc., but heavy on the GPU and I should optimize indeed for a next time. Did not have any time left to try to squeeze something more out of this one.

Did try to activate the Dynamic Scaling and STP in Unity, but I do not know whether I have succeeded in that either😅

Could also be something else that causes the heavy load by the way. Something to try to find out and learn for next scenes/games.

Thanks for watching and the feedback. Hope you still liked the mini space odyssey 😊!?

Cool take on the subject! The one criticism I would have is that, for a subject with this much pathos, the camera seems a bit "jumpy".

Submitted (1 edit) (+1)

I thought some of the visuals seemed a little jerky sometimes, but I assumed that was just because my GPU was having a hard time keeping up with the graphics. But maybe you meant it jumped perspectives too much.

Developer

Thank you and yes, the camera was not as smooth as I wanted it to be and did not have any time left to try to locate and fix.
It is indeed bit jumpy at moments...😅

First time Unity (6) HDRP so maybe I could have optimized it for better framerate and more smooth and is HDRP a bit too heavy without any optimizing. Could also be some other problem that causes the jerkiness...but was fun to try HDRP in Unity for a change instead of URP.
Also first time using Timeline. I think you did too. Nice tool, cool to use it for this jam and learn what it can do. Probably a lot more than I did, but still... 😊

Thanks for watching and the feedback😊!

Yeah! I have so much appreciation for the timeline now! Turns out you can use track grouping in the way that's... well... smarter than what I did :)
