Cool black-and-white hand-drawn styled cutscene.

The cutscene looked artistically impressive. Combined with the calm, somber music, it created a melancholic atmosphere, which I think was the intention for this scene. The shots and visuals effectively depicted the story (even if it was just a few shots) of playing chess with the devil and time running out to escape alive. At the end, I was still expecting something more to happen, but it simply transitioned into a lingering final shot. Also not bad of course, but I wanted more ;-)!

All in all, a beautifully stylized cutscene.

a really beautiful looking story that tells everything with very few scenes, i cant exactly explain it but the camera movement in 3D whilst the objects were 2D was really awesome

Agree on that. It was really smooth and I feel it added a bit of dimension to the story.

This is such a great entry. Cool little story wrapped in impressive presentation. Not sure how this would work in a game but I could see this in a short film festival. Kudos!

The concept is exciting and intense, playing chess with death. I like it and the music and art are great!

I really loved the concept of the scene, it’s a very creative and tense idea. Playing chess with death, but in such a fast paced way, was a great decision both narratively and in terms of flow

The art style really appealed to me, I love black and white, and it was definitely a great visual choice for my eyes. The music fits well with the scene, along with the sound effects. Truly, a great job!

sickkkk entry!! the art and music are both absolutely beautiful.  I really liked the loose narrative and lack of text on screen, it fit very nicely with the abstract artstyle. my main critique is with the quick jump cuts to a black screen to swap between scenes, I don't think they worked, and ended up getting in the way of the story rather than doing the job of advancing its presentation. which is too bad because the story is interesting and presented beautifully. another minor critique is that the scene lingers for just a bit too long on the opening truck crash scene, its good to emphasize it but I would shorten that part by a hair. Overall, I really, really enjoyed this  entry and think you all did a wonderful job!! The art and music are excellent and I'd watch a longer version or play a game version if there ever is one!

Playing chess with death is a popular motif, but speed chess with death is an entirely new thing :)

Seriously though. Art is very stylish. The color composition and music sells the somberness of the scene. I could see it as a cutscene in a narrative heavy game, maybe as a ending for one of the characters arc?

Thanks!

You're right, this scene would fit perfectly in those kind of games!
