Nice buildup its pretty interesting even though you used the same percussions and guitar loop, I think some evolution into those two loops could add some extra textures, it can be subtle like a change of instrumentations or add some FX on it but overall its really cool. good job.
Thanks for the feedback! I do think I still need some work on changing things up over the course of a track instead of just looping stuff for the whole thing. But I’m glad you liked it overall.
Really incredible, loved this one.
Not sure I'm feeling the guitar loop as I feel it added a bit too much solidness to what was quite a texturally light. When that part first hit I was feeling it but I don't think it worked after a few times through the repetition, perhaps some variation as well as dropping in and out might help it?
Realise I was starting with a a negative there, bit outside of that I really loved it, one of my favourites and there's very little else I'd change. The vibe it set was perfect and you were absolutely in command of the medium and it shows.
Thanks for the feedback! I can see what you’re saying about the guitar. I think something as simple as changing a few notes or more variation in volume might work. I would have liked to record a real guitar for that part, which might have also put in some natural variety, but I couldn’t find a good time to do so. Either way, I’m glad you enjoyed it overall!
The bass is probably my favorite part of the track, really like the growly texture. The pads LFO panning around are simple yet very effective at creating width and depth, I think I'll try it on my future projects haha.
Awesome work buddy!
Mind if I ask the meaning of the track's title? I think it's a Hawaiian language but I'm not sure haha
Thank you! But yeah I don’t mind at all. It’s toki pona, which I’m still in the process of learning actually. I can see the resemblance to Hawaiian though, not that I really know a whole lot about that haha. But anyways, the meaning is something along the lines of “City of Resting Spirits”, though with the way toki pona is there’s probably a few other ways it can be interpreted.
I've listened to your track several times, and it creates a very memorable space. On the most recent listen, I almost feeled like I was playing DUSK. It's got this old school warmth to it. You're using repetition to good effect here. To my ears, repetition does two things: creates tension, and makes something disappear. The repetition in the guitar is causing tension and also focusing my attention towards that BASS!!! Such a unique tone. It's hitting really interesting notes in the chord progression. Nice dark mix and great selection of instruments.
Thank you! I’ve never played DUSK, but it looks like a game I should try out. It looks a lot like Quake, which I really liked. Sometimes I worry about being a little too repetitive, but for ambient music it seems to work out pretty well.
Oo, nice vibe.
Very chill track. Great work!
Thanks! I was definitely trying for something on the calmer side, so I’m glad that came through properly.
The pads in this track are very nice and fit the atmosphere, and the weirdnoiseumade is also great ambiance.
Thank you! I’m glad the pads turned out well, since I feel like that’s the sound I spent the most time tweaking. I do find it kind of funny what kind of sounds work as ambient noise with some stretching and pitch shifting.
