Description
Submission for the Impressions Composing Jam: Ambience #2
With this track I really wanted to adhere to the painting and the feeling of ancient discovery it seemed to convey. I can't help but feel like the viewer is rounding the corner of the canyon to be met with this city lost to time. It's an awe-inspiring feeling, but one that is doused in mystique and intrigue. Are there still inhabitants? If not, what wrought their end? Perhaps the sands of time prevail, though what once was can be again.
Description of Setup (Optional but recommended)
Created in Reaper with the Roland S-1, Sonicware Texture Lab, Cre8audio West Pest, Zoom H2 Essential, various VSTs, recorder, and tenor recorder.

Cool composition! it really convey what you are trying to do and I love the flute! but man probably it feel different if you have another wind sound sample bit variation could do the trick, keep up the good work!
Thank you!
I think some of the basses start to muddy the mix a bit. I think some of the other sounds could use a wider mix in space, near/far, and L/R. Compression also helps soften things without killing the overall volume. Near/far is done with reverb being drier with more delay on closer things, and vice versa for farther things. Spatial mixing helps our ears pick out and separate sounds so they don't sound like they're overlapping in the same space, which makes the overall experience feel more realistic.
It also makes it so that you don't end up feeling like you have to turn up the volume to hear everything.
More time on balancing the volume of some of the sounds would also help. Overall, the mix isn't bad; these are just some things that would help.
The atmosphere is nicely done, the vibe is there. Great work! :)
Thanks for the input!
Very creative approach also nailed the ambiance you went 100% for it, there might be a couple of mid frequencies stacking that can be fixed but the texture mix is very well done, good job.
Thank you! I really appreciate it and it means a lot!
One of my top ones so far, you get what an abient sound is suppose to be , great sense of atmosphere, and got better on my second listen.
Loved the key switch and that lil flute detail by the end!
Take Care :)
Thank you so much! Kind words that I cherish!
Favourite one I've heard so far! Thought it was incredibly well executed and the atmosphere, like where it took you, was perfect. Honestly nothing negative to say here (which I realise isn't very helpful lol) Is that recorder live?
Thank you so much! I appreciate it! The recorders were based on improvisation until I came up with something I liked and felt fit correctly. After that, I recorded each of those bits separately into the track and threw on some VSTs for reverb, slight delay, and mastering. I also shifted the pitch on both the soprano and tenor recorder by -135 cents to fit the tone of the rest of the song and to give it just a slight bit of a more Eastern feel.
I love the soothing texture, really good on the ambient side! What made you pick that specific beetle for your video?
Thank you! The beetle is Asbolus verrucosus, or Blue Death Feigning Beetle. They are a desert species of beetle and it seemed to fit the thematic elements I was going for. Plus it helps that I have a bunch and needed a picture for the video! 😂
Pretty airy track... I like it! The flutes, the pads, the feeling of wind and sand..... mmm
кruuto!
Thank you! 🙏
hard for me to put in words how evocative this was. the bizarre interplay between consonance and your style of dissonance, the arrangement, and that recorder... wow. incredible work!!
😭 Ahh thank you so much! I really appreciate it!
