Description
***
You can't sleep.
No way.
It's impossible.
And now you're here
Goodbye.

***

I prepared for this jam thoroughly (to the extent possible). To tune in to the “unpleasant” soundtrack, I didn't sleep for several nights in a row, forced myself to hallucinate, immersed myself in horror content on the Internet, studied a lot of stories about atrocities, murders, cruelty and.....
I also thought out the local lore (and I've spelled it out in my draft better than what's in this publication. Because of deadlines, I had to cut EVERYTHING). The basis for the local language was even thought of! (You can hear it in the track “Cannibalism”).
Unfortunately, what we have now is only a rough part of what I originally wanted to do. So I'll finish this soundtrack later, I'll make a full set of OST! (But that's after the jam, obviously).

The genre of the game is a kind of survival horror, where the helpless protagonist gets into the territory of a dead manor...

How does that fit the theme? Well, uh. it's set in an “abandoned” estate. Plus I used a mix of conventional instruments, instrumental ambient, choirs and evil foreign electronics! There are so many “dirty” sounds to authenticity here....

***

One day, aliens decided to “visit” this place. They left some of their technology, viruses and apparatuses behind. They made this place a “reservation” for human meat. All the inhabitants went crazy. Most began to develop fatal insomnia after meeting with alien life.....
Our hero is the last person to see extraterrestrial life, fleetingly. He saw the departing ship out of the corner of his eye, but it was enough to fall into madness....
All that will accompany us from here on out is sheer madness, cruelty and bestial rage. Of course, few will bother you, for most of the villagers are already dead.
...But no one said they couldn't rise from the dead.

***

Exhumation:
...You can see the moon from the window. You are in a godforsaken large monastery converted into a hospital. There are corpses everywhere, mold and you. The occasional phantoms passing by are only a faint reminder that someone once lived here...

Autopsia:
You have descended into a cellar converted into a morgue. Most have died due to crop failure. Half of the rooms have long since sunk, some of the rooms are filled with strange empty machines. Some of the dead come to life right at your feet... You haven't slept in days
It's so humid and stuffy that it's hard for you to breathe ...

Cannibalism:
You've come to what everyone else came to a long time ago... In hopes of surviving, you have to eat your own kind. Fortunately, unlike the others, you only eat the dead...
But how long will you last? Maybe you should get some sleep...?

Pet of Reservation:
You make your way out of the cellars straight into the living quarters of the manor... A horrible scene is before you: the aristocrats of the manor have been locked inside the house. While the rest of the peasants were starving, the aristocrats had a large supply of provisions....
...But the provisions ran out. There was no way out of the house...

The landowner finishes eating his daughter

Reservation Forest:
Hidden in the gardens is one of the alien machines. There don't even seem to be any spirits. Everything's dead.
The apparatus stands in the center of the gardens.
Go.

Insomnia
A second of silence. Bliss. You can get some sleep and forget this cannibal feast like a bad dream. You can get some sleep.
But they say if you sleep too much, they'll think you're dead...
... You can see the moon from the window.

***

I originally tried to make a soundtrack that encompasses the overall mood, but only touches on certain gameplay moments. The main goal is to make a mix of weird, slightly creepy and unpleasant soundtrack. To do this I use as usual a bunch of tortured samples, weird note sequences and of course a thumping bass.
The result is weird but ambient. It follows you around. And sooner or later, it'll kill you.

***

Please don't forget to sleep ;>

I love the dedication you put into this! I definitely got jumpscared by the first track haha I wasn't expecting that gtr part to be so loud.  I love the way you interpreted the theme! Very unique (:

You probably did some insomnia doing this because thats lots of work. Gotta give points to creativity always, you really have your own sound. I liked the creepyness on most of the tracks. First track sets the tone and I told you multiple times I still think you can tone down the volume a bit, at some point I lost the ambient vibe but you brang it back. Last track only thing I would look for is the acoustic guitar that is really too percussive its agressive. Tone it down in volume, velocity and frequency would make it more enjoyabe. Stunning amount of work, good job :)

Cool composition! the amount of dedication is amazing, the sounds is make me remember game called "Alien" just perfect amount of creep, I hope I can sleep tonight....

I admire the dedication you put in to prepare for this.  I can tell from the first track alone how much it payed off in your compositions!  Sounds like this freak me out and are what keep me from playing survival horror games in the first place, so you definitely nailed that aspect.

Thank you so much! I tried to prepare myself as emotionally as possible

Green tea helped a lot :>

Amazingly welldone! After listening to your previous submissions, I can truly say that this is your Masterpiece! The chilling sounds really sets the horror atmosphere.

If you don't mind me asking, what vst you used for the growling sound around 2:45-3:25 ? sounds like a very distorted electric guitar/bass. I really liked the texture, reminds me of the "DOOM" game.

Hopefully you get a nice rest after this. Take good care of your health brother!

Thank you so much for your comment!

If you mean “Exhumation” - it's a standard bass from FLEX with some guitar effects (like guitar rig) and ran it through the effects of modular synthesizers :>

If you mean “Autopsia” - it's surge with automation on effects of the same modular synthesizers :>

oops forgot to mention which track haha, yup it's "Exhumation"

Got it, thanks for the reply!

What a ride that was. Love the gritty industrial sound of it. The tracks teeter around from a creepy lull to full-blown horror and intensity. Could definitely feel a post-apocalyptic vibe with these. Amazing work!

This work transports me into dungeons, torture chambers, burning towns and... barbeque?  This is probably my favorite one of your works to date.  It has a sort of sort of stream of consciousness feel to it.  It would be a perfect backdrop for a survival horror videogame.

The vocals around :16 of "Cannibalism" are insanely fantastic.  Reminds me of industrial music, like Skinny Puppy or Velvet Acid Christ.  "Pet of Reservation", with all the crying, brought me back to arriving at Nightmare of Mensis in Bloodborne.  "Reservation Forest" is my favorite; the mix is darker and feels really good yet creepy and a little "off".  I'd like to hear what some of your other tracks would sound like with darker mixes, as some of the higher effects, percussion and synths sound too loud for my ears.

I admire your dedication to designing sounds, there are so many cool synths and effects in here that give it a ton of character.  Excellently freaky submission!

Your mixing has improved IMHO. This is sounding really good.

Again, an overwhelming amount of music to listen to at once! Haha. Your specialty.

Great work.

That was dark :o

Firstly, I LOVE the industrial approach to this theme. You can hear the hard work put into this album. The electric guitars are amazing and fit right in.

I would say 'Cannibalism' is my favorite track, the sound design (especially the quiet screams, grotesque squelches, and distortion) C i n e m a ✋😲🤚.

That's a hell of atmospheric tunes! I love gritty bass sounds. Bells in pet of reservation were just perfect.
The overall album is quite intense; it feels how much of a work were put into it. Did you use any hardware for the drones like lyra-8 or all software and samples?
You did tremendous job, congratulation on finishing it and getting back to sleep!

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Thank you so much!

All that's used here is vst and some samples (some of which are just random sounds recorded with a phone recorder). All sounds have been “messed up” a few times with processing.... Some drones are distorted violins :>

I can definitely say that I adore modular synthesizers :>

Dark and scary, I liked the sounds effects and your sense of rhythm in each song, I could really feel it. Really impressive work. Thanks for sharing ! Excited to hear the full set !

Developer

Thank you! I tried to add a little (or too much) rhythm to each track! Because... why not? :>
