  • Hey there! It's really clear that you have a great attention to feedback. This is easily the best feeling game I've played so far this jam. Little things like hit-stop and knockback went a long way. I really like the choice for the paddle to knock enemies away but for only the ball to do damage. The round based gameplay and progression mechanics were also thoughtfully implemented though I never saw a "heal" card in my playthrough and was a little afraid to click the "restock" option because I wasn't sure what it did. I went back while writing this review to double check, and only then noticed what it did. Perhaps some more clear affordance on the button's function before clicking would have saved me there. In any case, you've got a great entry on your hands, thanks for making it for us to enjoy! :) -Adam

Awesome,I had fun playing this.

This was great, i didn't expect to enjoy this as much as i did considering how badly i played the early stages of the game, but once you get the hang of it, it becomes really fun, also the art is amazing and i love the idea of this "Archero-like" experience where you can upgrade yourself in a run.

The start is definitely very tough so I’m glad you stuck it out and ended up enjoying it. Thanks for playing :)

Really great game!  Nice, simple and clean mechanics and art. -C

This, for me, has been one of my favorites of the jam! Simple, clean pixel art, easy to pick up mechanics, and a collection of interesting upgrades to play with that enhance an already engaging core loop.

The randomness afforded by the shop along with the ability to reroll your deck of upgrades added a good sense of risk vs. reward to the point management. I could choose to go several phases without buying anything and freely go on a shopping spree, but having to manage health between phases meant that many points went towards maintaining and pushing the deck to include as many heals as possible.

The one thing I'd like to see added is regarding enemy spawns. The effect for when an enemy spawns is almost instantaneous, and a good amount of damage taken was an enemy spawning on top of me at an inopportune time. A bit of extra time where some audio queue could play, and a longer visual to indicate where an enemy is spawning would go a long way into improving the overall experience of the game.

Superb work!

Thank you for playing and for the comment. I’m glad you enjoyed it! The enemies spawning on top of you is definitely something I didn’t like but didn’t have time to implement a solution. It’ll probably be one of the first things I fix.

I loved the feeling of this game, hitting the ball into enemies felt very satisfying. I really enjoyed how challenging it is! I've made it my goal to at least see all the enemy types

Developer

Yeah it’s definitely tough. You just need to make it through 8 waves bit after that you can probably go the whole way:) . Thanks for playing!

i literally could not stop playing this game. the only thing that stopped me from playing this game for 3 more hours was the balls surpassing 3000 speed. they were moving so fast they crashed my tab.

incredible.

from the satisfying sound effects, to the subtle time slow effect when you hit a ball with more strength, to the minimalist but very pleasant pixel art, to the well thought out enemies, i could not have thought of a better example of managing scope. you kept it small, and executed on your idea impeccably.

only critique is maybe to try and add more insane enemy ai to the game that can circumvent high ball speeds. once you upgrade 'decrease deceleration' enough, you've effectively got a laser beam that sweeps the room. i won't lie, i did love this. also, i would make hearts muuuuuuch more expensive.

anyways, this game was like crack. love it!

EDIT: also, i laughed out loud when the game ended and it said something like 'you can sleep safely now'. the idea of a man ruthlessly smiting invaders in his home (that no longer have any chance at survival) just packing up and going to bed was incredibly funny to me.

Lmao your review is great. Thank you! It honestly makes me really happy that people enjoy stuff I make like this. It’s also hilarious that you reached over 300 speed. Scope creep was so tempting but I was happy with where it ended up anyway. Really wanted some sort of boss but that would have taken too long to figure out. I like the suggestion. It makes me think of an enemy that can drastically slow the ball down in the late game. I hadn’t really thought out after the early parts much though. I made hearts cheap cause I was worried about it being too hard but yeah, lots of balancing to do. Thanks again!

The palette used looks really good. I would note that the powerup selection sound is a bit loud for me. Great Stuff!

Developer

Thank you!

Yeah forgot to connect the power up sound effects to the volume controller and can’t fix it now unfortunately.
