I played this for quite a while and still feel I didn't make much of a dent in the recipe book! Really good looking game.
You know what would be dope, is if you had to fullfill orders or something, and there's a time limit on them; so like you get the order, a couple of clues on how to make it, then you're left to work it out. It'd just add a bit of purpose and motivation. One could easily play this for ages if there was that little hook, "just one more quest" kinda thing.
Also, "Superlative Energy Drink", yes please!
So glad you enjoyed the aesthetic of the game!!! And that's really great feedback, thank you so much!! It does sound like a more concrete minute-to-minute gameplay loop centered around orders is something people would enjoy if we developed this game further, so we'll definitely consider adding something in for retention purposes!
We could all definitely use more Superlative Energy Drinks in our lives, hehe!
Cute game! I'm a big fan of the aesthetic, and the mechanics are solid. I just wish there were more of a gameplay loop. It's still fun to mess around with potions, though.
Thank you!! We intended this to be more of a sandbox, but we have considered adding more actual crafting goals to a future version of this game if we do continue working on it! Glad you enjoyed playing around!!!
Finally got this to run, and it was a blast to play! I enjoyed how you get an unlimited supply when you purchase something from the shop which I initially thought you had restock your own supplies. I also liked how discovering enough recipes can increase brewing speed which is a must with those stronger potions later on. I played until I discovered all recipes! It has such a nice aesthetic, like one you'd see from a polished mobile game (You could probably upload it onto the google play store after a bit more working on it for it to have an elongated play cycle). The only bug I encountered was that if you move to the All tab in the shop after buying a recipes from the recipes tab, it will appear in the all tab and be purchasable again. And if it is clicked on in the All tab, it reappears in the Recipe tab. But it was pretty solid and pretty to look at all in all.
Y'all did a magical job on this! Bravo!
Thanks so much for your kind feedback, and for playing!! We wanted to be generous and encourage players to use their ingredients to experiment rather than making them hoard them, so I'm really glad that worked out!! And we're so happy to hear that you were able to find all the recipes!!
It's really great to know about that bug, and that's definitely something we'd like to fix if we continue working on this :D thanks so much again for playing!!
What a chill little game, the art looks amazing! At certain times i wondered if new recipes would ever stop appearing :D
Ofc, once you figure out the basic combinations of recipes it get’s a bit boring. I think the ramp up is a little to fast here, after just a few potions i could buy the most expensive ingredients which then combined to the huge money increments. It almost makes it unnecessary to buy all the cheaper ingredients in the shop.(But of course i did anyway, just to see the shop empty :D)
Thanks so much for playing!! That's a really good point! We didn't have a lot of time to balance the economy, so we figured we'd err on the side of more generous so players can more easily experiment with ingredients to try making all the recipes - definitely something we'd wanna tweak if we ever continue development on this, along with possibly doing more with quality tiers of ingredients so it makes more sense to try to buy all the things!
The overall sprites, colors, and sounds make the experience feel nostalgic. Which actually motivated me to discover all of the recipes, and I did!
The pricing of items is fine as it is. Infectious Laughter is tricky. I thought its either Hyena's Laugh + Gold Ingot or Hyena's Laugh + mushroom.
Adding a few animations like particles after crafting would enhance the experience even more!
Also, are there any rewards/ messages for discovering all the recipes? Just want to make sure in case I missed something.
Other than that great game jam game!
Hi!! Thanks so much for playing, and sorry for the late response!! I'm so glad you enjoyed the overall aesthetic - we had a lot of fun putting it all together! <3
Particles are a great idea! That's something I'd def love to explore if we continue working on this game, along with balancing the economy, adding more visible power ups that we didn't have time for, etc. Thanks for the suggestion!
We unfortunately didn't have the time to implement a win state, which is rough because it is a "make all the things!" kind of game, so that's something we'd def wanna prioritize adding in the future! That aside, I am SO excited that you were able to actually finish the game!!! Congratulations and thanks so much again for playing!!!
Very charming foundation of a game. I enjoyed the sensations of being in this workshop. Could really use a moment-to-moment gameplay loop and/or a longer metagame with twists and turns to keep the player engaged. But definitely very solid at what it is.
A lot of character in this one. Love the art style and the flavor text on the ingredients.
Clicking on the cauldron to advance brewing was a good way to add physicality. Would be great to have some sort of minigame there instead, if time had permitted.
I can squint and see where this would be going in order to keep attention longer. If there were requests, or market fluctuations, or hints to unlock unique/interesting recipes, I'd be more compelled to keep going. As it was, I got a decent idea in my head of how the recipes work, and then sort of ran out of steam on wanting to fill in the recipe book.
Thanks so much for leaving such a detailed comment and such kind feedback!!! The whole team really appreciates it!! <3
There were def a lot more moment-to-moment mechanics and quality of life improvements we would've liked to add if we'd had more time! We wanted to make the game more clicker-esque, so the crafting speed increase was a shop item you could buy and upgrade, you could have an upgrade to auto-stir, etc, and we even considered an ingredient harvesting system at some point! Unfortunately we had to cut a lot of those features because of the time limitation, but we would love to come back to the game some time and add heavier clicker mechanics in a future v2 maybe!! It's great to hear that those are things that the game could benefit from!
Nice. Yeah I figured the time constraints were a factor. :-)
Great job by the whole team!
