Nice game! I included it in my compilation video series of all of the games from the Kenney Jam, if you’d like to take a look. :)

Developer

Thank you so much! Great video!

Really nice, I was very relaxed cursing everything while listening to the chill background music. I played a bit. I'd like to be able to continue my progress if i accidentally click Main Menu button. Entertaining game.

Developer

Thanks for playing and thanks for the feedback! Persistent game state shouldn't be too difficult, and definitely should put a prompt in there when the menu is click. Thanks!

The idea, sound and controls are good. The only thing i miss is the rotation of the camera.

Developer

Thanks for playing and thanks for the feedback. I think we'll add camera rotation in the next update!

An interesting consept. I like the hex tiles. Is there an indicator that a house is going to do anything the next day? Because I was unable to tell which one I should cast sloth on. Overall an interesting consept. Runs a bit slow, but I'm guessing that's because it hasn't been optimized in the 48 hours.

Developer

When you select a house, the UI panel on the left tells you what it is going to do (rest, tend grass, tend trees, create medicine, etc.). No visual indicator yet, but I'd like to get that in for the next update. Which parts did you find ran slow? Although you're absolutely right, parts of the code definitely need to be rewritten to be performant, I imagine Unity's Garbage Collector is working basically constantly.

Thanks for playing, and thanks for the feedback!

Yes, some sort of indicator would definitely be useful. I think it has potential. The main game play works well, and if the tiles are different every time you start there's some good replay value there. It was slow basically when I tried moving the map around, and when I clicked on trees or houses it took a little longer than it should for the UI for that item to pop up. I'm sure that could eventually be fixed with optimizations.

+ Really interesting game
+ Quite hard to beat
+ Sound effects are nice
+ Good use of assets
+ Appreciate camera controls

- Being able to rotate as well would have been awesome
- The UI could do with a bit more polish

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing! Yeah. We definitely had to scrap some UI polish we wanted to do at the last minute. That rotate idea is something we will definitely look into in the second iteration of this game.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for checking it out and giving us your feedback! Rotation would have been really neat and probably not very hard to do, I think I'll pop that in the next update!

Cheers!

First thing I tried was rotating the camera... disappointed I couldn't. Not necessary, but definitely a quality of life upgrade.

I'm really impressed by this submission - pretty well polished and has an incredibly complex set of game mechanics for such a short jam. Will definitely keep an eye on this one if it continues to be developed!

I think the other comments have given most of the critical feedback I would provide; I guess my one addition would be that I think having a prompt for the menu button available while you're playing would be nice (I clicked it at one point during my playthrough while just checking out all the UI elements and it seemed that I wasn't able to resume my session after that; when I clicked play it gave me a fresh start).

Developer

Thanks for playing! We do play on updating this some more so stay tuned! That is good feedback too about the Menu button. We will look into presenting a modal before it just kicks you out of the session.

Developer

Thanks! Went a little wild with the mechanics on the back end without thinking of a great way to present them to a player with the given timelines. Generally we try and design systems at the start to be really scalable, put the content in, and then move on. When we have all the systems in we can go back and add more stuff (like the losing/penalty quests in the quest system). The menu prompt is a good idea, or at the very least probably persist the playthrough...

Thank you for playing and taking the time to give us great feedback!

Really nice! I quite enjoyed the sound and the graphics and gameplay. Really well done

really good game, loved the use of the theme, and nice polish for 48

Developer

Thanks! We generally try and spend the first day roughing in content and mechanics, and the second day building 'Juice' and polish. FInding out you can't use Visual Effect Graph from Unity in WebGL builds definitely slowed us down.

First time i played 30 seconds, i click all, nothing happened, and I closed the game.

Then i readed some comments, and i gave it a second try. I didnt recongnise the "end day" as a button on full screen the first time. The UI and what to do is really confusing as begginer.

Now i played for long time, and the idea and the difficulty is awesome actually. Most of the other games of the jam took the 'cursed' idea as kill zombies or place skeletons pics. You got the idea as it is suppose to be, well done.

I was impress that the game is a challenge, and the game itsell its a secret master piece.

After a while the click sound start to annoy me. In fact there is too much clicking in this game, i will add an icon on top of the house to see actions at first sight, so you dont need to click all. And second shortcuts for the curses, the keys '1' '2' '3' will save me a lot of mouse travell and better focus on the game.

Probably top 3+ of the gamejam, and clear winner in developing the theme idea. That gui and shorcuts fixed could make you a questionless winner.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing and thanks especially for the fantastic feedback. Do you mean putting icons above each of the houses to tell the user what that house is going to be doing? Like a thought bubble that has a tree in it if they're going to tend trees or a bed if they're going to rest? I really like that idea! So you can quickly get all the information that's happening in and make decisions.

The shortcuts to cast the curses is also a really smart idea, so you can just select an object and press the correct hotkey.

Thanks a lot for playing and thank you so much for the great feedback, it's very helpful and appreciated!

Cheers!

Developer(+1)

Thank you for these kind words. This is very insightful for both creators of this game. Polishing the UI workflow was definitely something I had in the back of my mind but with the time limit we had to cut that little level of polish. Thanks for playing!

I like how the world feels alive. I think this is a good use of the assets given. I could not finish the game but I found it very interesting.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing, and I'm glad you found it challenging! As it's randomly generated levels, some of them can be VERY hard. The easier ones generally have more empty tiles with just trees, so you can wither them quickly and gain more magic points.

Developer

Yes! Deleptual did a great job adding some life to the asset pack we used from Kenney. Thanks for playing!

I love games with a corruption mechanic like this! Well put together and nice clean visuals. The sound was really well done as well. The UI was a little finicky at times but nothing that got in the way.

Developer

Haha the UI was messed up as we decided with about an hour to go to switch the end day button and the city name to different places, and I was in a panic as I forgot to change their anchors, so I only saw it on the WebGL resolution. Lessons learned! Thanks so much for playing!

Took me a bit to get the hang of it, but what fun! Definitely worth a play through or three :)

Developer

Thank you thank you! If you had feedback on any ideas to make it easier to understand, would love to hear it! Thanks for playing!

(+1)

Absolutely! Thanks for making it, it's a really neat take on this genre.  The only thing I'd like to see differently is a mouseover popup for the house/tree/plot so you can see it's current stats.  I made the mistake of playing fullscreen on a 5k monitor so it was very hard to read the status text in the upper left corner, but that's a pebkac error *doh*

Submitted

Most fun I've had with a citizen uprising during the whole game jam

Developer(+1)

When will they learn to stay in their homes and let us wither their trees in peace?! Thanks for playing!

Submitted

Pretty nice gameplay. It was a bit hard to understand at first and later on I would wish some actions would be easier to perform, but once you get the hang of it, it's really nice. In a way it reminds incremental game, where you try to progress and conquer. The quest system was really nice addition, glad you could implement it given such a short time.

Developer

Thanks! Negative/Penalty/Losing quests will probably be split into something different if we continue working on it, as it's kind of a weird fit, but it was just faster to write. If you had ideas to make it easier to understand, would love to hear them! Thanks for playing, and for the feedback!

I liked it a lot once I figured out what I was supposed  to do. I think the tutorial needs a little more information on exactly what's happening with the villagers and how you win. But I had a lot of fun playing and will play again.

Developer

Thanks for playing, and thanks for the feedback! If you have any ideas on how you would like information conveyed to you in the game, I would love to hear it!

I liked it once I figured it out.

Developer

Thanks for playing! I was trying to figure out a way to more easily convey what was happening for the player, but struggled. If you have any ideas, I'd love to hear them.

Submitted

Very unique game, are you planning to develop it further?

Developer(+1)

I think so! It's pretty over complicated for a game jam game, but I'm such a sucker for strategy and simulation games.

Submitted

Wonderful concept and execution. I think the UI could be more clean by that's a small detail. Great use of assets.

Developer(+1)

Thanks! Some of the UI elements I anchored to the wrong spot... :( and didn't have time to fix. If you had specific ideas for the UI I'd love to hear it! Thanks for playing!
