I like that both the simplicity of the gameplay and the cute art (big plus for the voices) make this game so easy to instantly enjoy.

As I told you on the Discord, your game brought back memories of the Willow shield sliding scene. Maybe a lead for Akzidenz story suggestion. The game also reminded me of Toobin (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VT-hn4WnX_0)

Would it be difficult to add keyboard or controller controls? I play on a track pad and after a couple of games, my wrist hurts.

Developer

We can add that in for you. I'm not the programer so it sounds easy to me for us to do that. Glad you liked it enough to put up with the pain but accessability is always our top priority so we will look into other control layouts.

I love that the gameplay was the opposite of what I was expecting - on my first play I was trying to avoid colliding with objects until I realised that was the objective. The audio is a real treat and the graphics work nicely with the mood of the game. I played with the mouse and while mouse-control can sometimes give unpredictable results, it worked pretty well with mine and it was a good experience.

If I had to suggest one thing to improve, it would be to give more negative reinforcement when you hit a bad object, so it's easier to intuit when you're doing something wrong and avoid it.

I like to imagine what jam games could be like if they were extended into bigger games and I could definitely see Kobald's adventures growing with different game types, locations and activities tied together with a story.

Good job team.

Graphics and sound fx came together very nicely.  You can create an incredible amount of on screen chaos by disturbing a few birds and smashing an igloo in short order.  Very fun!

Developer

Thanks, I'm glad you had fun. I had a blast working on the sound and art.

Nice game! The mechanics are pretty interesting, as you're constantly switching between trying to avoid the trees and then wanting to hit them once you have a power up. It's a quick and satisfying game loop that makes it easy to keep playing! Also, I know everyone has already mentioned this, but the sound effects really bring everything together. They're so cute!

One thing I might improve is the visibility of the +(dragon) icon that appears when you fill up the Next Time Bonus. It gets lost in all the "Wee!" and "Ouch!" labels and it took me quite a while to notice it. Maybe it could go beside the dragon bar on the left, or just in the middle of the screen?

Otherwise, great job!

Once we had the boosting mechanics, that loop seemed like the best way to go. Constant risk/reward between being immortal and having to be careful which trees to clip through. Glad to hear it works!

I agree about the timer bonus popup. We ended up putting those indicators in near the end, so I recycled the code for the tree fragments. I agree, it could be telegraphed better.  Thank you for playing!

All credit for the sounds go to Blackdrake21, I did add some code to randomize pitch but he did all the voiceover work. Our cats were not amused with him growling at the screen over and over to get a good take, but we hope they forgive us someday.

This was fun!  I liked the power ups and sound effects.  I really wanted to beat the dragon to the bottom: don't know if I just couldn't beat him or that's a wishlist item. :)

Great entry.  Good job!

Thanks for playing! There isn't a way to "win" the game, it's just for high score chasing. We thought it would be a better message if the dragon keeps just showing the kobold more kindness instead. So the slope is endless. :)

Ski Free with power ups and a dragon? Sign me up. This game is fun and I played it a number of times to see if I could beat my score. The WEE! and the OUCH are fantastic :) Nice job on this entry and using the Boingy theme to make something that’s unexpected.

Fun game! Satisfying combos/powers - things flying off and hitting things feel great, and the boost makes you feel powerful. I especially love the sound effect.

Thanks glad you liked it. I loved doing the sound and art for this game. I tried your game as well, not to good at golf myself and was difficult for me with the cards but was a cool new way of doing a golf game so good job!

Fun gameplay with very satisfying animations when you smash though trees, fun sound effects and appealing art. Love it when you can chain time bonuses. Whee!
