The game was pretty fun! Once I got past the initial stage of upgrading the weapons, I was able to take down the crowd of mice, rabbits, and pigs! I maxed out all the upgrades, but I didn't see any medals to unlock under the achievement tab.
After several rounds (I think around 34?), the growing crowd moving towards me were freezing and jittering everywhere. This made it easier to dodge them, despite the lag. I was able to stay in one spot where the mice couldn't reach me, even though they had the free space to do so.
The best upgrades were range and reload speed. The reload speed upgrades made the clip size upgrades moot! It was fun seeing them bounce really far away with the force upgrade.
Thanks! Yeah something with the a* pathing lib I used was bugging out with high enemy count which caused the jittering - never had enough time to debug it fully.
Unfortunately I ran out of time adding medals too - I'm sure you earned them though :)
More balance with the upgrades to make them more meaningful makes sense too. Feels like a waste if they don't stack well.
All great feedback - thanks so much!

Well, it was a long time, but I was able to get to the shotgun :D. Of course, I also got a gun :). But when I maxed out the bat, it was the easiest to attack with, since the attack radius is half a circle, the pistol reaches far, the shotgun might combine that, but I'm already tired of playing so much for check it :).
What I noticed is that you can attack through walls (green squares), but they block your movement, you can cheat on this, choose a position where there is a wall between you and the animals, but you can attack them :).
The statistics window is cool, but it would be good to guide the player through the first steps, highlight what can be upgraded, etc., since it's not immediately obvious that there are buttons for this.
A cooperative mode or multiplayer would be a great addition in my opinion.
It was interesting and fun, congratulations!
Thanks for the feedback! Good to know that UX improvements would add the most value. Better "ramp up" and difficulty pacing with the upgrades makes sense. Thanks again I appreciate it!
Interesting concept! Everything is working really nicely but some art would help a lot! You could consider using open source art assets or even having AI help make the art. The round end screen works really well. It's great to see that you already have something setup for upgrading weapons. It would be fun if the animals interacted with each other and the level in a more interesting way. I hope you keep working on this and consider arting it up. Also you can use the release build of littlejs to prevent the escape debug feature and it runs a bit faster! Great work!
Thanks! Really enjoyed learning basic game dev with littlejs - great game jam :)
Loved the upgrades system. Good game!
Thank you! I spent a ton of time making the upgrades data driven instead of hardcoded :)
I know this isn't complete, but in someway it added to the atmosphere since it left a lot to the imagination. So perhaps it could remain relatively minimal with just simple sprite and sound.
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it. I honestly just ran out of time :) I like your suggestion - I'll prioritize sprites and sound.
This is a very cool prototype for a game. I really like the main loop with the procedural level and being chased by all these "animals" the whole round. I will echo others' comments about it is kind of weird to have to die to progress to the next round though. I am still a little confused about how to get the other weapons too. I saw the upgrade tab but I couldn't find where to buy a pistol or shotgun, or if I had to find or get them some other way.
Your upgrade screen looks pretty big and you put some time into it, but once again as above I really didn't like dying to get to this again, along with not figuring out how to get other weapons.
The game itself was fun, just felt really incomplete without some real graphics, sounds and music going. It is a fun gameplay loop though.
Thanks so much for the feedback!
i found animals represented with names on small squares hilarious, it makes the concept of beating up wild animals with bats and pistols much more tame than it really is. i think the procedural generation is cool and it gives some much needed variety to the gameplay. the progression is kind of odd since you dont really proceed forward unless you die, i feel like standard "get n amount of xp to level up" would be a better way to go. also, while the bat is pretty effective weapon, esp with some upgrades, i found no way to use a gun after several rounds of playing. anyway, good job on making this, even though its bare bones in its current state i can see it growing!
Thanks so much for the feedback!
Great game!
Played it and watched it on the live stream. Love the procedural generation and the upgrade features you have in here!
Would love to see this idea refined further!
Thank you!
