Alright Kokutouchichi.... WTF did you just make here!?! AND WHY DO I LOVE IT SOOOO MUCH!?!?! You're an absolute genius for this game.

What I Loved:

  • It's hilarious, it's bizarre, it's... everything I want in a game made for a Valentine's game jam! What a unique approach to this jam. I'm honestly jealous that you came up with this.
  • For such a strange game, you certainly nailed the mechanics. Not only did you nail the mechanics, you guided the player through a deeper understanding of how everything works on each consecutive level!  That takes some talent.
  • The audio design was hilariously perfect. Something like this could have been easily annoying if the audio was wrong, but you nailed it!
  • πŸ‘…πŸ˜πŸ˜œπŸ˜›πŸ˜œπŸ˜œπŸ˜πŸ˜πŸ˜πŸ‘…πŸ˜œπŸ˜œπŸ˜œπŸ˜πŸ‘…

Some Suggestions:

  • I loved the guiding the player to deeper understanding of the mechanics during each level, but the first level gave me some initial confusion. Maybe some dialogue focusing only on opening and closing the mouth to chew candy would have helped here.

I don't know what else to say except I love this game.  Please keep doing more things like this in the future. It's a funky style that I'm a huge fan of. Thank you for this Kokutouchichi! It was a blast to play and I super appreciate you submitting it for the jam!

Haha I'm glad you enjoyed it! After showing it to a few people I did notice that some people were immediately squeamish about the closeness and reality of the inside of the mouth, perhaps I stuck a nerve with some phobia in some people lol. I didn't actually plan to have all those levels, it was the "stages" of Love that threw me off and I had to think of some kind of progression mechanic. Originally, I had thought just to focus on the makeout, maybe make it so that you could accidentally bite down on the other persons tongue or that you had to poke the other persons tongue and keep them from destroying your teeth. I fully modeled all the teeth and wanted them to fall out. I'll be pushing out one more small bug fixing update, but its onto the next project/jam for me! Thanks for the opportunity to make a VR jam!

Well - that was interesting.  I was a little prepared by watching the discord discussions.  The game play was pretty cool.  I did get a lot of the voice overs cut off or over lapping.  Still lots of fun.  Great job.

Developer

Well the last level has two Tongue sounds that are eerily similar, one for the girl and one for you. I changed the pitch of the girls one with a little help from some AI tuning but they are both me so... hahaha it might sound like its overlapping sounds.

Definitely the most unique game idea I've seen in a long time, great job Kokutouchichi! Pushing the envelope and literally licking the stamp on it!

The concept is indeed brilliant, there's no doubt there - however some of the implementation did let it down a little - but I reckon with more time these are things that can be sorted out. I'll go through the things here as constructive feedback, but overall these didn't take much away from the great concept and unique idea of the game. I do wonder what you were actually doing at the time when you thought of this idea - lol

First of all, I'm left handed (sorry, I was born that way....) and unfortunately the main tongue movement was set for the right hand and I found it a little difficult to navigate, which I feel set me back a bit from the outset. It would've been nice to be able to either move the control cube somehow, or have an option to flip the controls around.

The first level was a little confusing as to how I was supposed to deal with the candy hearts. I ended up just stabbing them randomly with my fork trying to break them up, and I wasn't sure if the teeth were involved or not, so it took quite a long time to complete that one - but I was determined to see the rest of it, so stuck with it anyway...

The tongue physics, although looked natural was hard to navigate for gameplay - not sure if this was my handedness, or the controls, but I found it a little too hard to aim for the targets without feeling it was too random and I got them more with luck than skill. Like I say, I think more time on tightening that up would probably work a treat.

The sounds were funny as hell and the whole thing made me properly chuckle, so it was very entertaining and unique overall. Some bits felt a little unfinished, but clearly that'll be down to the time constraints, but it was a great idea, really enjoyed it - fantastic work!

Ahh you left handed people! That would have been the easiest fix if my left handed wife would have taken 5 minutes to play my game...Alas, getting her to play a VR game over doom scrolling Instagram is a challenge on its own. The targets require several collisions before they disappear. I had them at just one and you can quickly flop your tongue around hit them in a matter of seconds which wasn't very satisfying. Perhaps having the targets change colors from green to red or something like that would let you visually know that you are indeed hitting the colliders. (Highlights the importance of playtesting!)

On one hand, I admire the ingenuity and twist  on expectations that this game represents.  On the other, it's deeply unsettling, but I want to offer that as a compliment, as I think that might have been intentional?  I couldn't get past the candy hearts, as I'd lose the uvula poker pretty quickly, and couldn't figure out how to chew the teeth, so I just choked.  No second base (or another person at all) for me!  (What was poking the uvula supposed to do, by the way?)

Maybe a more low-poly cutesy approach might have softened the ick factor?  Congrats on such a bold concept!

Developer(+1)

Ahh so someone did run into that issue with the poker. That was the one bug I was afraid would rear it's ugly head. It has to do with the way I am resetting the position of the poker. I should have just instanced a new one when you let go of that one and I wouldn't have any issue but I was trying to turn off rigidbodies temporarily, move it, and then turn rigidbodies back on. This has the unintended consequence of sometimes turning on the rigidbodies as its colliding with an object and shooting it off into the distance. If you do happen to give it another go, the candies wont be spawned if you have your mouth closed and its much easier to break the candies with your tongue. You can also pickup the candies and throw them.

I considered going the low poly approach but I didn't think it would be enough of a WOW factor. I also had planned to use a fork and have a try at eating dinner with your date and if you bit down on the fork you would break your teeth, which is why all the teeth are fully modeled. Out of scope unfortunately!

The poking of the Uvula on the first level just makes a sound and for fun. On the second level you use it to feed yourself strawberries.

Okay, so you don't need the poker for the first level?  Considering you use it to progress past all the tutorial buttons, it seems like it's a primary weapon/tool, but I think I end up dropping it while trying the Activate/Select to work the jaw and tongue.  (How do you move the tongue?  You crush the candies with it, you don't chew them?  I'll give it another try with that in mind.)  When I retried my first go-around, it seemed like poking the uvula made the mouth choke... so we're triggering the gag reflex?  For fun?  Ewww...  It's such a bizarre location for interaction, lol. Also...  The mouth going to eat us in the intro... reminded me of a VR 'Attack on Titan' moment, being consumed by a Titan...

You can use the poker with your left hand to strike the candies as well. And you can use the tongue while holding the right trigger inside the mouth cube just move it around a bunch and smash the candies. If there are too many candies just close your mouth and smash the ones that remain.

Out of respect for the game progression you had set up, I returned and took your advice, managing to make it to 2nd base after not choking to death on the candies.  I think what messed me up on the candy level was expecting to be able to move the tongue while the mouth was shut, and I also wasnt sure if I was supposed to help 'eat' the candy... but I survived.

I'm glad that 2nd base is where this romance ended, but continue to admire the ingenuity and verve of this game.  Truly unique.  Great job!

Developer

Thanks for taking the time to play again. I thought about letting the player move their tongue around while the mouth was shut but I had some funky clipping issues and not enough time to debug and make it look less janky while moving it around with the mouth closed, that I just made it so you can't move the tongue with the mouth closed as my compromise. I probably should have mentioned to the player that they wouldn't be able to move the tongue while the mouth is closed though!

Wow! This experience made me laugh out loud, the idea of moving the tongue is amazing. Very creative comedy game, this could be a level in a VR version of JazzPunk! Overall a solid entry, cool menu, just like in Stork Taxi ;) Great educational value - you can learn not to suffocate your partner while kissing :P I strongly recommend this developer ;) Great Work!

Developer

Thank you for playing! I'm glad you got to 2nd base! Maybe I should add some Educational tags to the game, sell it to schools to teach them about sex ed!

That's a great idea! You could save a lot of lives from suffocation or some other common kissing-related injuries like twisted tongue, or broken teeth, or fractured voice cord ect. I wish that Vr was there in my school years!

Oh man! This game is weird. But it's weird in the good sense πŸ€£
I love it. Keep that creativity flowing!

Tiny note: I didn't manage to recenter my position in-game on my Quest 3. Everything just stays at the same place. Luckily the room I am playing in is large enough.

Developer

Weird is the best compliment I could get! Thank you for playing! I also devved on a quest 3, I'm curios why it didn't recenter you. Did you open the Oculus menu and click reset? It should have shifted you back to the left so you are sitting right behind the Uvula. I have the hardest time forcing the player to spawn at a specific place and height, it's my VR dev curse!

I was holding down the Meta button on my right controller. Normally it recenters me but here it did nothing

Developer(+1)

Ahh I didn't try that. I clicked the meta button and pressed the reset button! Interesting! Thank you for the feedback! I gotta learn how to force the reset in game and make it easier to do.
