It's kind of funny, but I had a feeling that this story might go this way. I'll try to leave the spoilers out, but I absolutely loved the direction you took this.

What I loved

  • Great use of the theme. It followed the stages of love, but also kept things fresh by going in a non-traditional direction. It is indeed a date story!
  • Cool mechanics and proper nudging of the player in the right direction. It's hard to find the right balance of helping the player progress through the story and not making it too easy. I think you found a great balance in this game!
  • I'm a sucker for classical music and you were blasting some fantastic choices!
  • Doors suck in video games. Doors super suck in VR. You had wonderful doors.

Some Suggestions

  • I wanted some more puzzle solving for sure. It felt like you intended to have more, but most likely had to chop some out due to time.
  • Some of the colliders (books) were still set to collide with the player, which launched me across the room. Easily overlooked during the time cooker that is a game jam.
  • I think the you did a great job fitting a ton in mechanics wise, but the overall look of the rooms could have used some love. Given the choice between the two, I think mechanics trump aesthetics so you made the right choice if you were time constrained.

Overall... AMAZING! I really enjoyed this submission a lot. It's a clever take and all the mechanics work wonderfully in it. Thank you so much for putting such great work into this submission!!!

Very nice.  I think I enjoyed the climbing portion the best.  I like the sound positioning.  Very fun.  Great job!

I really enjoyed the scenes, and... SPOILER ALERT... I thought I would fall into a trapdoor on the ground, not that I would exit through it. I didn't expect that. The coffee drinking was funny ;) Some objects, like the crowbar, seemed to be misconfigured. When I grabbed them, they would throw me around the room, but those are minor bugs ;P Overall, congratulations, you made a playable, fun experience in 7 days! Really good job.

Thank you for playing! I tried to create a layout that keeps surprising. Glad that it worked 👏🏻

Indeed, some interaction need polishing. I plan to fix it in an update.

I really liked the environments on this - even though they're are quite simple surface-wise, something about the scale and presence you got spot on there! Love the literal use of 'stages'... very cool idea.

Great story, it was engaging as you weren't entirely sure what was going to happen next and it had a great setup. Nice use of various mechanics too, climbing, phones, object interactions etc... there's quite a lot there when you think about it.

Nice atmospheric game - I enjoyed playing it, superb job!

Thank you for playing! 👏🏻

I am glad you liked the environments. I went with the "simple and slightly unsettling" vibe. My initial idea was to make the environments feel like theatrical scenery but I didn't have time to work on it.

This was my first attempt to make a story-driven game. I see a lot of potential in VR as a medium for interactive narratives.

Really enjoyed this one. Made me laugh in all the right ways. Rumor has it my character is still using the app. Hope never dies.

Developer

Thank you for playing! I am glad that the humour clicked.

I wonder what is the ratio of people who chose to keep the app in the last stage

Oh, that was a sneaky one.  First I snickered at your 'Stages', realizing you took it literally... then I cursed our interminably slow locomotion speed...  Took me a little while to figure out the app, but then after her message, figured I was in for Leisure Suit Larry style action!  ("Let's skip the small talk, meet me in the park?" Meow!)

I won't spoil it here, but what a hilarious left turn.  For a moment, I also thought that was where our story ended, (and that might  have been a pretty funny way to go), but again realized we had an option to progress..

Half the time I spent trying to climb the ramps in Stage 3 had me fearful that someone might return.... and that's just terrific.  Way to engage the player in the narrative!  Clever twist on the theme!

Thank you for playing! Your comment is a joy to read 🙌🏻

This is my very first attempt to make a story-driven game and I am glad that you found it engaging. All my previous projects were purely focused on gameplay mechanics. My goal for the future is to be able to combine the two: a game that provides both an engaging narrative and an original mechanic.

Hahahaha! What a great twist! Loved it! I had to exit and read the about page to figure out how to use the smartphone, that took a couple tries to get right. You really need to just point from far away with your right hand to get the cursor to appear. I was trying to do it like you would normally hold a phone and that doesn't work. I appreciate the level load too, since I ran into a bug where I tried to pry open the door with the crowbar and the crowbar disappeared into the world. Note to self... don't accept coffee from strangers on dates.

Developer

Haha thank you for playing 🙂

I plan to fix the smartphone interaction and the "things falling through the door" bug in the next release along with some performance improvements for Quest 2 (Quest 3 and PCVR already work well).
