Did you work in a team?
Flew this one solo. Creating a pocket-sized Wizardry-type game was definitely a fun experience. :)
Was the resolution a challenge?
The main hurdle was getting all the HUD info on the screen without dropping back to that horrid "tiny" font. Decided that i was going to go with an Apple ][+ style font and build the rest to fit the font size instead of the other way around.
What did you learn?
I wanted to see what I could do in that kind of space. I learned a lot from several people in the AppGameKit community that were also creating entries. So many clever solutions to space problems!
A big thing I learned here was that I was better at managing time and scope than I thought. It definitely gives me more confidence in tackling much larger programs and delivering on time/to spec.

Still looking for my brother. Wish I had a map.
When you find the note that says "Join me, brother," you are almost there ;)
Sweet. Reminded me of playing Monster Maze on the ZX81.
with the trex!! I forgot about that one! Tyty
You must be as old as me then 😂
This was a really cool game. Thank you so much for making it. Very limited in scope and I like how you can accidentally bonk on the walls if you're just running out of control. That legit got a laugh out of me. Also somewhat ominous. Felt somewhat like an old text adventure game but with a little more graphics. Great job on this one I am glad to see this style of game is in the jam!
I love that it's hitting that Nostalgia point with people. That's what I was shooting for and it makes me so happy that people are enjoying that. Thanks for the playing and posting!
Not an original request but I would have liked a map :-)
anyway game's simple and cool at the same time - and fun. A lot of reminiscence here. Congratulations
seems pretty unanimous that this needs a map. :-) thanks for the feedback!
I really liked the graphics! It definitely felt like I was moving through corridors. As others have said, some sort of map would be nice, because I felt like I was horribly lost :P but other than that, it was fun to play!
Cool game. Great maneuvering game jam's of the resolution stipulation.
Thanks!
Interesting game, I'm sad that I didn't finish the game in 30 minutes, i gave up....
I had fun playing it.
The perspective is interesting, gameplay impressive. I would appreciate a small map!
TY! Several others have suggested a map, too. May include one if I update it.
You don't see this perspective too often anymore. The enemy sprites look great!
Very nice throwback to old-school dungeon rpgs! I would have loved a map just to satisfy my lazy 21st century gamer brain. Other than that, very satisfying and with a great difficulty balance!
TY! I was almost tempted to squish a minimap in there, btw :)
this ruled; completely charmed by it!
Thank you!
I absolutly love this game. I am considering to support you if you have donation set up. I know it's nothing special, but recreation of old school games on modern pc's is always so cool for me and I have huge respect for anyone who does that. The game description is amazing and the story is very well wrapped up (yes that was intentional). I love the minimalism and how easy actually it is to manouver the maze. If only there was some sort of a small mini map it would be perfect.
Other than that I only disliked the sounds, the OW! and walking sounds are crisp as hell, but the fighting sounds are too high pitched. If you want to I would love if you DM'ed me on discord, cuz I would just love to chat with you, you seem like a great guy/girl! Cheers.
TY! And, yeah, I have to work on those sound effects. I was shooting for chiptune type effects but forgot how raspy or high pitched it can get. :)
I really appreciated how clean the animation to the walls of the dungeon were, I would have liked to see some texture or different colors to different wall sections, something to add more interest to it. But over all the game is nice and easy to follow in the limited pixels.
Thank you! I was going for a Wizardry/Akalabeth/Oubliette look. That said, I am considering taking another pass at this so I may dress it up with some textures or more colors.
Can't resist these old school dungeon crawlers. The graphics are minimal for sure but not bad at all really suit the gameplay to be honest. Nice job!
Thank you!
Nice entry!
It caught my eye as it resembled Ultima-I, your game did not disappoint. I thoroughly enjoyed playing (and completing) it.
It would be nice to cast your heal spell when not in combat, but after levelling up a bit that hardly mattered. After wandering around the maze for quite a while, I mapped it on paper, which eventually led me to find Okin and Oink.
Good point about heal as an out of combat skill. If I take another pass at this game, I think I will include that. TY!
very good game!
Love the “2.5D” style. Also very classic RPG :) True old school!
Thank you! Exactly what I was going for. :)
5 Stars as Best of Kind!
Slaying Feral Pigs felt wrong, tho. I think some were kin of mine...
Y'know, I was almost going to change that mob's name to "feral boar", for that exact reason. :D
I like the old school look and feel of it, going to play through and see the other ending!
If I rework it into a larger game, I'm going to hit you up to do the graphics. ;)
Excellent game
Thank you!
