Did you work in a team?
Only me, Art, Sound, Programming.

Was the resolution a challenge?
You need to exagerate some details to show them at all. Only 7 colors is even harder.

What did you learn?
I learned how to use the animation system in Godot! And I got better at pixel art.

Fun! Controlling the car was a bit difficult, but then again I am terrible at racing games so I don't hold that against you. I loved the choice to limit the colors used!

really cool! has a great "micro machines" vibe

I feel so bad for how I beat the heck out of that poor car. I over-steered like a ... like a whatever over-steers too much. :)  Clean, simple graphics, fun game. Nice work!

Developer

thank you!

Not too shabby! Took me a good while to get a feel for the controls, but once I did i was able to play around nicely.

I wish there was a little more indication of which direction you are steering.. i noticed that my car was moving side-to-side quite a bit without any change in the shape/direction of the sprite. Some sort of ‘steering’ pixel might help a little bit.

Otherwise.. solid racing game!

Tough game, it took some practice to finally finish a loop without bumping into anything. Well done!

Great job! I know it’s a good racing game because I’m terrible at it (I’m terrible at all racing games). Great job!

I really enjoyed this! Took a little while to get the hang of the controls but they worked well once I'd worked it out. Reminded me very much of micro machines. The game has a great level of polish, such as the start lights and the engine sounds. The physics are 'harsh but fair' but there was no way I could catch the AI ;) nice work!

Tough but  fun ! Great graphics and sound that let you focus on the action. I understand you can't have too fine a resolution for the car sprite rotation, but I wish there was a little bit more for the actual direction of the car. Are planning for more circuits ?

Developer

Thank you! I had to leave out some details I had planned, like an actual podium and finer graphics for the crowd and track. I am also not quite happy with the look of the barriers, but I ran out of space on the spritesheet. But I agree, some more graphics for the car would have been nice, I even have another four sprites reserved for the car but I could not get the rotation down. The code that selects the right sprite is basically just an array.

The track is inspired by the Nürburgring and it should not be too difficult to build others. I will release the entire source on GitHub after the jam, so you are welcome to check it out and experiment a bit.

Personnally, I loved the graphics, barriers included. It's just that I'd like a tiny bit more precision and flexibility in the controls. I didn't notice the Nürburgring inspiration though I've probably played it a million times in Gran Turismo but that's a super nice touch !

This was a really good game. Control was a little tough but I really felt like I was playing the old arcade game "Off Road" for some reason. You also had a good art style for this and it just felt nice to look at. I think this game shows a lot of real promise. Great job!

Nice little game. Controlling the car was simple once I got the hang of it. Would be nice if there was an indication of which direction the car is facing, but otherwise good job on this one!

Developer

Yeah, the car has too few sprites. I tested it with a line drawn out of the front of the car, but it looked weird and did not fit the art style I was going for.

Great audio!

I really liked it, the enemy AI was really good... Quite difficult to beat them.....
It would have been nice if you could control your car's direction maybe more exactly... Not bein able to stay in the center was a bit distracting....

Submitted

it simple but i like it, but there a glitch where if you press either Enter or Space the main menu will suddenly come but the game is still running like normal. other than that it quite a fun game.

Developer

yeah, when you press play, the UI just moves off-screen but the button is still selected. I am honestly quite surprised the game just keeps running when you do that. Also: When the player finishes the race, the driver is replaced with an AI. The AI just follows a path and keeps moving along that path, so finishing while driving backwards will have red driving in the wrong direction

I'm in love with the details, for example, when completing a race the car continues the course by himself, i saw that and it was like "wow".

Developer

Whew, just barely made the deadline!
