Nice to play something that isn't another 2D platformer. I was a bit thrown at first as I was expecting the ship to control like asteroids. The way that the ship moves with the WASD keys but faces towards where the mouse is positioned, feels very weird. Not sure how you would fix it, other than to have the ship rotate based on mouse position, with WS applying forward and reverse movement based on where it is facing and the AD keys basically acting as strafing. That I think would make more sense and be more "fun" over what you have now.

A decent point-and-click shooter and an interesting attempt at mixing genres.

PROS:

  • Controls were responsive and intuitive.
  • Everything visually read well on the screen and there was never any confusion about where I was or what I needed to pay attention to.
  • Intended path for the player is pretty well laid out so there wasn't much chance to get lost.

CRITIQUE:

  • It would be nice to see any kind of upgrade to better incorporate some of the staples of the Metroidvania genre. Even something as simple as "now I fire double projectiles each shot" would check that box nicely.
  • The player moves pretty fast and there are some rooms that have hazards/traps near the entrance so I definitely got shot a couple times right as I was entering a room because I didn't really have time to react before my ship was in the damage.
  • Most of the room challenges turned into find the right spot and then pew-pew everything while sitting still. If some of the enemies had just a slight rotation rate on them that would negate the standing still aspect of that strategy and greatly increase player engagement in most of the rooms.

The game controls pretty well as-is, presentation is OK and enjoyable, if short. One of the minibosses seems to be more or less a dead end. It took a fair hit on "genre" from me because it feels more like a topdown shooter with very light exploration elements as-is, but like others I can see where you might go to make the exploration/character progression interaction more advanced.

Also, like Redz below, I more or less cheesed the eyeball monsters.

You could actually do some fun things in this genre with some metroidvania twists. This controls and works well for what it is though, so definitely keep at it.

As someone who uses Unity almost exclusively I completely get using a jam to try out Godot. One of these days...

Hehe I cheese all the eyeball monsters :3

It may be lacking but for a second game I think your doing just great :)

A neat little snack of a game. Not much by way of Metroidvania, on account of not really having an unlockable power curve, but it has a nifty action-puzzle element in the hunting for safe vantage points to shoot the bosses from in the attack patterns.

intresing game, has a lot of potential to continue, for example adding multiple weapon types

alas-like metroid while also expanding the map to make the server hidden deeper into the base or leaving it on the same place as always but blocking it with endgame gating,
also for some reason my screen turned red when killing the 2th terraria wall of flesh looking thing, it went away on fullscreen but kept existing on non-fullscreen until it randomly didn't happen anymore

the bug? in question

Could be a neat genre mashup game! Just need to add some metroidvania stuff like locked paths and upgrades, and I think people will really like the idea :D Keep working on it for sure if you like the idea!

It was a nice game for what you set out to do. Obviously lacks some metroidvania elements but the controls were tight and there was a bit of nonlinearity in there! Keep making more games!

Not really metroidvania, i appreciate the concept though. Too hard for me personally, but that's more of an issue on my side.
