Man, I love this game! The music, art and controls are so spot on! And I love how you use the score as money progression! It's so addicting to see my team grow more powerful with each run! My only wish is for there to be more levels, more things to buy and maybe a boss(s).
Good game I enjoyed the retro graphics. It was hard to tell at first but I like it when you upgrade the unit and it summons more projectiles per shot.
It is hard to dodge but the police batons are dodge-able. I do like that.
The score being your money is a good touch.
The game was fun!
Found this one super fun! It was awesome once I had all the characters so I could just go around throwing hoards of projectiles! Great job!!
Very enjoyable game! The atmosphere created with it's music and visuals is so cool!
Thank you SAWD Games and luisdenpixel for this fun expierience!
good game but it was really hard for me to dodge the sticks thrown to me. cool sounds.
Very fun to play. I don't know you can farm the trash can at the start for more money, I had a bit struggle at first vs police. Penny is kinda OP. There also a bug where 1 character in the gang got hit and stun while the others keep going and go of the camera.
Thanks for playing! We agree, the game balance definitely needs work. That's the first report I've seen about characters getting stuck, so that might need more testing to figure out.
Awesome idea! The art was great and the gameplay was really polished!
Thanks for playing!
Honestly, I feel a bit like I'm part of a terrorist cult after playing the game... but it was fun. Really great music and fun but simple gameplay.
Join us... Join us... Burn it all down...
Thanks for playing, glad you had fun!
Wow, cool game, at first it was difficult, but then I realized that you can buy life for the heroes, it would be great if you could change the location of the heroes
Agreed, one of the mechanics we had to cut for time was a button to change your party formation (square, line, T shape, etc). Maybe in the future we will finish that and add it back in.
Thanks for playing!
awesome game! I like the cool pixel art and the action packed music which brings depth to the game, the mechanic is straightforward , shoot the enemies to gain score to recruit additional members of the gang, at first I always got hit by the stick thrower, but got to get more gang members, overall I enjoyed playing! congratulations! keep it up!
Thanks for playing, we have some ideas for updates to Pyrotechnic Punks, so stay tuned.
It would be great if enemies were randomly generated. Then the walkthrough would have required me to do more than 5 runs to warm up the city. I liked the graphics, the hiring system, the possibility of choosing the level of difficulty at the expense of farming. Nice small game.
Yeah, that would have been really cool. Random generation was on my list, but unfortunately had to be cut for lack of time. Thanks for the feedback!
Love this entry! The art and music is great, and it's my favorite gameplay of jam. Enjoyed the upgrades and don't think the scaling was too bad for a jam game - it takes a few tries before rolling through with 20 Penny :)
Only issues i had were the fire audio as mentioned below, and it seems the main menu did not work after restarting a finished game.
Thanks for playing! That's the first report I've seen of a frozen menu bug, so I'll have to look into that one.
Loved the retro pixel art and the team-building aspect. I ended up loading up on a team of 20 chefs and burning down the entire town with pizza lol.
We agree, the game balance definitely needs work to deal with some of the more powerful units like Penny and Chef. Thanks for playing!
The game was really fun and I enjoyed the funding mechanics. It did have a problem when I could just get the first two trash cans and build my gang.
Agreed, we did not have enough time to nail down the game balance in any real way. Thanks for playing!
Really enjoyed the sense of progression with the upgrade system. Very fun game. My one suggestion would be to have the camera more out ahead of the players so that it's easier to see what's coming up on the right side of the screen.
A little bit of extra camera room would probably be nice, good suggestion and thanks for playing!
Nice art and music, I wished for a bit of animations and that the more you uprgade your gangsters the more expensive the next purches would become. Even still realy cool and unique thing you got there
I agree, when we go back to improve the game balance, increasing costs would be a great feature. Thanks for playing!
My pleasure, and wow the music was good
This was interesting as a concept. Really enjoyed it. One of the more outstanding interpretations of warmth, really liked that.
Just one note, if I may: Be carefull with the sound.Play() method calls. With a big gang, the sound stack onto each other and getting even louder the more calls on the same sound are made. This can lead to an ear killer mid- to lategame. Either install a limiter at the end of the signal chain (controlled by the mixer) or check in the code, if that sound is already playing and deny further sound calls of that type until its play is done :)
But that's only one tip as a cherry on the top. You people made a great work. I couldn't find any bugs. I got used to play several rounds and made my win with the baddest gang in the city. Thank you for sharing this experience :)
Yeah this sound effect thing seems to be the most common topic atm, thanks for giving it such a thorough explanation!
<3
I think the audio issue may be caused by the large number of weapons spawning additional fires before the enemy is considered dead. Thanks for the feedback, we are certainly going to try and learn more about audio handling in the future to avoid these issues.
Awesome art and solid mechanics - although I found the stick-throwing-guy to be brutally difficult; especially at the start when you’ve just got the one guy. Maybe a ramp up?
The trick is to spam the trash cans in the beginning. Than purchase two or three stick throwing guys and you can one shot the blue enemies and two shot the brown guys. Up from that point, you can build up a big crew and crush the city like nothing :D
Yeah, the trash cans were the reason I was ok with leaving the rough start, get beaten a few times and you can afford some upgrades just from torching those. Thanks for playing, and for the feedback!
I - er - totally failed to notice about the trash cans at the start…
Went back, earned millions, put together a 50+ squad and absolutely nailed it.
Fun time all round.
Balancing was very much a last-second effort that didn't get the time it needed. Thanks for playing!
Great Mechanics, Great Art, Great Music, Great Game. Well done guys!
Thanks for playing, happy you enjoyed the game! :D
Fun game. So cool having characters with different attacks to buy. I Invested in the Chief and Penny guy, and it was a walk in the park.
Would have been even cooler if there was some kind of feedback when you hit something, but yeah there isn't enough time in mini jams for all the little stuff. The art is so neat though.
A very enjoyable game overall. Good job.
Cool GIF! I agree, we definitely needed more time to balance the characters, even just making the more powerful people cost more might have helped. Thanks for playing!
