Description
"Synchromancy" is a puzzle-platformer game featuring an atmospheric soundtrack inspired by fantasy, adventure, and role-playing games. In this story, you are a Synchromancer — a wizard endowed with the power of repairing space-time fractures across vanishing meta-dimensions.

A terrible, destructive force from somewhere beyond has destabilized various timelines to reshape their futures. You are tasked to synchronize them now before they disappear forever.

Each track represents the Synchromancer's multi-dimensional journey towards the source of the force responsible for destabilizing his universe. The closer he draws to it, however, the more his knowledge of time and space fall apart, as he realizes to be dealing with an entity beyond his comprehension, capable of reshaping the fates of multiple timelines to their whim.

The soundtrack was entirely produced in FL Studio. Tools used: Kontakt libraries, Mirage libraries, Omnisphere, Love-Fi, Paulstretch.

Theme:

Tick Tock...
Picture theme

How does it fit the theme?
My game concept is based around time manipulation. The soundtrack frequently nods to the game lore through the titles, and it features time-based techniques like reversing, speed adjustments, and stretching. The deliberate use of accented, percussive sounds, often laid down at regular intervals in various sections of the soundtrack, further accentuates the sense of urgency, inevitability, and impending doom.

you've made some haunting songs! my personal favourite is "Metadimensional Rift", the strange voices at the beginning make the whole thing feel unnatural and threatening (which is what you were going for i think?). even when the brighter instruments come in, that low drone keeps an air of unease about the whole thing.

really nicely done!! your ambient work is phenomenal :)))

Thank you very much for listening~ I think you've pretty much nailed what I was going for, so that makes me happy. 🙏

Alternate Past: This is a cool soundscape that sounds like being on a train with the occasional train car clattering noise. This is a very nice ambient sound.

Forsaken Ruins: The cello melody is well-produced and gives this piece an epic and melancholic sound. Again the pads you use feel very nice and support the overall atmosphere of this track. Very nice loop transition!

Multidimensional Rift: The pulsing of the soundscape makes think that we are in a dimension that has an atmosphere/environment that is alive. There is a lot of suspense in the space and silence that you use in between the bell phrases.

Stream of Impermanence: The vocal-sounding synth lead gives this a Metroid sound. I like the riser into the energized section. There is a very cinematic ambient quality to this track which is really pleasant to listen to.

Hourglass Shrine: I feel like I’m in a cave with this track as some of the backing sounds sound like water dripping.

Palace of the Demiurge: The clocktower bell is a nice touch to give a clear sense of environment for this track. Those tightly clustered minor chords give classic evil castle vibes. My favorite part is the high vocal note held on the 4th scale degree. I would definitely not want to be in this location alone! Good job and thank you for sharing!

Thanks for listening and sharing your thoughts! :)

This was a really high-quality soundtrack. The sound design was well-observed and gave us a lot of distinct flavors in each track, and there were so many little treats for the listener (The little vocal that snuck in on "Palace of the Demiurge" was great, perfectly placed) I really feel like "Forsaken Ruins" was such a good introduction to the rest of the soundtrack, I almost wish it had been first rather than "Alternate Past", or that the two tracks had been put together and the ambient soundscape of "Alternate Past" fed into the forsaken ruins track after maybe 15-20 seconds. That could be just me, but knowing how strong the rest of the soundtrack is I just wanted to get to it right away.

Developer

I should have probably specified that Alternate Past was the title screen theme, at least in my head, so I understand if you wanted to get to the next track right away. Thanks for your feedback!

While listening to the Alternate Past, my mind started wandering around train tracks of City 17 in Half-Life 2. Just like that, dunno why... Interesting :D

Overall your use of ambient sounds is fantastic and I love it :)

It's safer here :)

Thanks for listening!

I knew you knew what you were doing when I saw you chatting on the Discord Server and man how right I was. Atmosphere is fantastic. Instrument choices are great. It's weird to explain but reverberations kept all tracks coherent even though I didn't sense necessarily strong melodic ideas. Epic stuff.

Hey! Thank you so much for checking my work! ✨

Well, I had already listened to this, but something went wrong with the rating. But it was actually a pleasure to listen again, I love the ominous atmosphere. I don't know how the tales of a synchromancer would sound like, but this sounds like it :)

Developer(+1)

Thank you! Yeah, I am not sure what's wrong with the ratings. Sometimes they save, sometimes they don't. I often make sure to click the button twice before tabbing out.

That's really great ambience music! I found some moments just a litte bit boring, but it may be just my taste, nice work!

Developer

Thanks for giving it a try!

These are all so high quality!! Loved the subtle unsettling atmosphere in each track.  Awesome production as well, great stuff!!

I'm glad to hear, thank you!

The soundtrack gave me strong vibes reminiscent of games like Unravel, LIMBO, and Hollow Knight. It flawlessly captures that captivating blend of eerie and adventurous tones found in these beloved titles. Your skillful execution of the chilling ambiance, paired with the sense of exploration, makes it an inspiring addition for any project seeking to evoke a similar enchanting atmosphere. I'm thoroughly impressed and can't wait to experience more of your work in the future! :D

Developer

That is high praise, I'm flattered. Thank you for your kind words. 🙏

Really nice atmospheric soundtrack! It's really dreamy and peaceful but it stills conveys that sense of urgency and immensity that you are telling through your story. I think you found a very good balance between the two so great job!

Developer

Thank you! I appreciate the kind words and compliments. 🙏

First and foremost, this is a very compelling story! I wish each track had an explanation of what was occurring in that moment, but I can use my imagination thanks to your thorough explanation.

Alternate Past: whatever soundmass you've created here, it couldn't have been at the click of a button (and if it was, I am dying to know what sound library it is!). I want to live in this ethereal soundmass. I want to buy a house in it and go stay there when I'm feeling pensive. Really cool-- and the slow sounds of a clock create this sense of something coming...

Forsaken Ruins: beautiful interplay of the cello and synth here. This track has more motion, and an undeniable icyness. I like it, and I want to hear what comes next after listening to it.

Metadimensional Rift: with a name like this, expectations are very high for this track! Fortunately, it did not disappoint! The bright, almost hopeful melody that is consumed by this dark, swirling noise paints a vivid picture of something horrible opening up.

Stream of Impermanence: another cool track that feels right out of an action sequence in a movie! The funky synths almost feel out of place here, but that's nitpicky (which I feel at liberty to do since this soundtrack is thus far very impressive.)

Hourglass Shrine: Not much new to say here! Sometimes it does feel like the piano is out of place with the rest of the mix: the distant synths are utterly cavernous, but the piano sounds right up close. Perhaps adding more wet to the piano could help? Either way, another stellar track.

Palace of the Demiurge: you know it's over when you hear the church bell... love the drama of this opening!

In all, this soundtrack aces the slow, atmospheric sound. I loved it-- good work, and keep writing!

Developer

Thank you for the detailed review! I was unsure whether to write more, honestly, so I ended up providing just enough story cues for the soundtrack to take center stage. I hope I succeeded in some way!

Wow! This suite of music are really nice, good blend between an electronic soundscape and classical instruments - all handled with care and caution. Feels a bit like the (now not so common) concept albums, which is a very good thing for a game OST. Kudos and hat off to a great submission!

Thanks for your comment and time, no pun intended, haha! :)

Really cool vibe all throughout! I totally forgot about PaulStretch being a thing while working on my submission, would 100% have used it. Pretty envious of your production on these.

Developer

Appreciate it, thanks! Yeah, PaulStretch is still a thing, amazingly! Really neat tool.
