definitely a coincidence lol. i've never played dark souls :/

i finally get to officially review this one!
i was absolutely blown away by this entry. the contrast between the somber and angelic strings with the distorted synth basses creates a very strange atmosphere, but one that fits perfectly with the setting you describe! each song fits subject immaculately as well. "Birth of an Angel" feels triumphant yet tense for the creation of our MC. "The Fountain of Faces" feels alien and scary, but with the major chords in the back, feels safe and warm at the same time. and the sound design in "Metal Puppet" perfectly sets the stage for the battle between it and the MC.
i listened to this initially, as i saw that it was the most rated at the time, and was super impressed! coming back to it now to properly review it, i've noticed things i didn't notice before, and am entirely in awe of it once again!!! you've created something truly incredible here, and i SINCERELY HOPE that your music either wins, or gets a place on the compilation album. you've seriously earned it :)))
it felt like i was watching a movie in my head! i loved reading the descriptions as i listened to each track. the world you've created felt really alive and complex, and you can get a great feel for every major character through it. the eccentric and happy-go-lucky theme of Synchron, the chaotic and panicky theme of the Cuckoo, and the restful, satisfied peace in the last song; each track was crafted masterfully.
i'd love to know how you make such interesting compositions! every track had so much going on that all blended together perfectly, it was wonderful! i adored this entry, thank you for submitting it :)))))
really great chiptune music!!! each track was so unique from all the others, i'm impressed how you managed to make so many separate tracks in such little time.
i love the variety of 8-bit instruments you used (i particularly like the wobbly one in "Cogwheel Plains"), and when you added in non 8-bit sounds, they worked really well! the clock ticking and the clock bell you added sound perfectly in place in your songs.
very well done my friend :))))
you've made some haunting songs! my personal favourite is "Metadimensional Rift", the strange voices at the beginning make the whole thing feel unnatural and threatening (which is what you were going for i think?). even when the brighter instruments come in, that low drone keeps an air of unease about the whole thing.
really nicely done!! your ambient work is phenomenal :)))
great integration of the theme here!! the clock ticking of course in "March of a Clock", but making every song in a different time signature is really unique, and i haven't seen it done in any of the other submissions!
your inspirations for each song were definitely heard as well. i found "reforestation" to be the most interesting personally; taking such a light feeling soundtrack like the sky islands from TotK and making it feel so dark with the percussion was really awesome to hear.
well done! i really enjoyed your stuff :)))
very nice ambient soundtrack! you did a good job conveying feeling through minimal melodies or rhythms, and the concept of having different plots depending on if you listen backwards or forwards is really clever!! listening forwards, i got a sense of hope as it progressed, like the MC is making it back home from these time jumps, whereas listening backwards felt tragic, like there was no way out of the situation the MC was in.
really well composed :))
amazing stuff here!! i was pleasantly surprised by the quality in all four of these. i really enjoyed when the drums came in during "The Shattered Hourglass", and also the sheer determination overflowing from "The Endless Marching of Time". the songs felt tight, triumphant, and were just overall very well done! loved listening to these :))
incredible chiptune compositions!! each track was so catchy and fun to listen to; i found myself going back to "A Knight's Will" over and over again particularly! i also loved the waltzing feel to "A Forlorn Place" that gave it such a mysterious feeling.
great use of reverb across all of these as well. you don't rely on it to fill space, but you use it very effectively to fill in the cracks in every piece!
brilliantly composed my friend! i hope you make more of this kind of thing :))))
really beautiful!! each piece feels very connected to the other pieces, while still having their own sense of identity apart from each other. the suns of nature, water, stars, and life all fit perfectly with the songs you composed for each!
i also particularly liked "YOUR Theme" in "The Final Battle". if suddenly felt super triumphant, like yours was a certain victory against the God of Suns!
amazingly composed, i really liked it :)))
really fun songs! i like how you only added in digital sounds in "Cybernation Battle", it really solidifies the evil presence of the digital clocks. also that little reverse thingy in "The Sentinel of Time" was really cool! i'm assuming that would be the game start-up sound.
i enjoyed listening to this, you should be proud of your work :)))
really great work!!! reading your descriptions along with the songs was great, and i could definitely hear all of the things you mentioned! "Echoes of Invitation" and "Pendulum Variations" both sounded particularly cool to me, and the way you composed them was super creative, and fit the theme great. all in all this was amazing! loved listening to it :))
love this submission! the way you portray each stage of life is really accurate (to how old i am at least lol). the lighthearted and upbeat songs of youth contrast strongly with the more melancholy songs of age. i found myself getting emotional at "Dreams and Memories", but when "Hush my Child" with lyrics came on, i just about cried.
very well composed! i enjoyed listening to it :))
the theme was really well implemented in this submission! the breakbeat in "Lament / Time Disease", the a-tempo feel of "Forever Beginnings", and the odd time signature of "Happy World?" were all very unique takes on the theme, but you made them all work very well!
really enjoyed this composition :)))
very fun compositions! love the big orchestra sound you've got going on. the 3 to 2 polyrhythm in "Century Peaks" was a good way to integrate the theme, as well as the classic 6/8 pirate sound in "Immortal Seas"!
if i may offer some advice, i did notice that your compositions felt a bit muddy at times, and i think it's because your melodies often use notes that are not in the key everything else is in. those notes tend to work best as transitional notes, and it's usually best not to stay on them too long.
that being said, these were still very fun to listen to! i can tell that a lot of thought has been put into these, and you should be proud of your work. well done :)))
VERY INTESNSE!! kinda scared me at first lol.
your mixing is definitely a highlight of this. the drums are tight, and cut through the guitars really clearly, and the lead instrument you have rests on top of the rest of the track, not too far forward, not too far back!
nice song! i enjoyed listening to it :))
really pretty compositions! the pads created such a calming atmosphere, but then adding the drums created a groove to each track that i wasn't expecting! the speed up in "Reaching the End" caught me off guard, but you made it resolve really well into that original tempo! "7 Step Skyline" was also really well done! 7/8 is not an easy time signature to compose in, and you did so quite competently.
well done :)))
those were all really nice!! you've got an amazing grasp on baroque (is it baroque? please correct me if i'm wrong) composition; all of these tracks sound like they'd be AMAZING played on a harpsichord. of course, the chiptune aesthetic makes the whole thing feel very appropriate for a video game. definitely reminds me of Shovel Knight! very well done my friend :)))
cool stuff dude! i liked your choice of instruments and chords, it lends itself very nicely to the atmosphere!
if i may offer a criticism, it seems like you're relying pretty heavily on reverb to fill space in your track. i'd recommend playing around with arpeggios, counter-melodies, and harmonies as other ways to fill space!
all in all, a good track :))
very intense!!! you made the song in a way that feels both like you're in a stressful situation, but you're also in total control of said situation. i can totally imagine the MC being extremely badass! i'm curious if that melody at the beginning was inspired by Mick Gordon's "BFG Division", they sound pretty similar. fantastic job :))))
really beautiful soundscape!! i had it on in the background for a bit, and it's genuinely a very comforting thing to listen to (up until the end with the heartbeats, that is a little scary lol). the ambience of the clack ticking, and doors creaking open, and the chime of a grandfather clock really SHOW you where you are, not just soundtrack it.
brilliantly done :)))
